Galaxy Audio

Ultra high-power, one-piece PA system/powered monitor that can attach to your mic stand.

Pioneers of the small PA/personal monitor category when they introduced the HOT SPOT 30 years ago, Galaxy Audio has redesigned their innovative Galaxy Audio PA6S from the ground up while keeping the basics. The outer shell on this version of the PA6S PA system & vocal monitor has kept the distinctive shape of the original Hot Spot, but with a new, 21st century look. The cabinet now uses 2 specially designed speaker components—the 155-watt NEOLITE 6.5" woofer and Galaxy Audio's highly efficient 1.5" 60-watt tweeter.

The Galaxy Audio PA6S PA system/monitor takes full advantage of recent improvements in speaker and amplifier technology, making it the lightest, most powerful, and best-sounding compact PA system Galaxy Audio has ever offered. Features such as the XLR pass-through on each channel allow independent control of mics without affecting the signal sent to the house PA system. The Galaxy Audio speaker's -20dB Pad switch on each XLR input ensures that even the hottest signals will be accepted without overdriving the inputs. An additional 1/8" Line input on Channel 2 will accept stereo or mono signals from sources such as tape or digital medial players as well as line-level instruments.

The 2-way PA speaker system gives the PA6S a much wider frequency response than earlier models. This means that full-range music, such as keyboards or backing tracks, will come through with solid bass and crisp highs. This enhanced frequency response makes the Galaxy Audio PA6S a great standalone PA system for small club gigs as well as lectures and A/V presentations. Plus a simple adjustment of the 3-band EQ can alter the response for singers who love the time-honored accentuated midrange of the classic Hot Spot vocal monitor. The Galaxy Audio PA6S gives you the best of both worlds.

Amplifier/Preamp
The Galaxy Audio PA6S has a built-in 170-watt amplifier designed to handle the most demanding audio situations. This high-tech Class D amplifier produces plenty of power to cover a wide variety of applications. This design allows the PA6S monitor to function both as a standalone PA system and as a high-powered vocal monitor to cut through loud stage volumes. For larger gigs that require more coverage, you may simply patch from the Preamp Output to the main house PA, while using the PA6S as your onstage monitor speaker.

The PA6S also features a built-in 18dB Compressor/Limiter circuit with Compressor and Clip LEDs. The Compressor acts to smooth out transient peaks in the signals, thus improving overall sound quality and increasing apparent volume. The Limiter helps protect the woofer and tweeter from being damaged by amplifier distortion. The Clip LED indicates when a reduction in volume is recommended.

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

this thing sounds horrible compared to a normal floor wedge, but that's not what it is... it is not full range and isn't meant to be... it's like a near field monitor or a pair of headphones that are designed to give you just the information you need to sing ... it gives you pitch and clarity in spades, and is pretty much 'invisible' to the mic so no feedback issues. i still think these look pretty lame, but cool is as notcarryingalotofpacrap does. going to try this out in the studio with a vocal dynamic mic. highly recommended.

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

I must retract my last negative review of this product...a friend urged me to try it again and as it turns out, when input lines are run properly the unit has plenty of volume to cut through stage noise. Frequency response was very good and the controls on the front of this unit are easy to reach and very useful. I am very satisfied with the unit and glad I no longer have to lug around a heavy floor monitor.

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

I'm a guitarist/vocalist and also run sound for the band. We had been using passive Hot Spots for the last 4 or 5 years. Now that we have a mixer that can do six separate monitor mixes, rather than buy and lug around six separate amplifiers, I'm junking the old monitors (Hot Spot VC's and Hot Spot 7's) and I've got the PA6S's.

First of all, they definitely SOUND better than the VC's and 7's. Much broader range and better clarity. That improvement alone makes them worth the price to me. The individual EQ's are somewhat helpful, but we've got pretty good EQ capability on the board, so I generally leave these flat.

Only one band member uses the pass-thru for his instrument so he can tweak it during the show. Be careful doing a pass-thru on microphones (I tried this only once) unless your band is disciplined enough to NOT turn them up too much during the show (feedback!!). My old Hot Spots had simple limited volume controls and I would start with them at full volume and let people turn them down if they wanted. Can't really do that with these, so I do run the risk that other band members could accidentally create feedback by turning up the volume of the mix that I'm sending them from the board. But I've warned them and, so far, it's working.

I'm used to Hot Spots and like their portability a lot. The PA6S's were a great upgrade -- better sound and they make it easy to provide multiple monitor mixes on stage without lugging around a lot of extra amplifiers.

Like most near-field monitors, if you have ear-splitting stage volume, they're not going to work too well for you...

          • Spot Monitor For Vocalist

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

While low frequency challenged, this suits the purpose it was intended for, as a spot monitor for vocalists or musicians. Have not used it as a mixer, stand alone, have only used it as a spot monitor fed from another mixer, so your mileage may vary.

Would have opted for a cheaper unit without the sale / discounts applied.

          Good features but not great!

          By Joseph Felicetta

          from New York

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

          Would not buy again.
1st let me say I also own a Mackie 150SM. I bought 2 Galaxy's because the Behringers I already ordered were back ordered and on 3 seperate ocassions they change the delivery date. So the sales person sugested these and gave me a good price I might add. However, I own a Yamaha Power Mixer and while the Mackie can be use from the monitor out on the front of the PA head, that is not possible with the PA6S. Every time I turned the hot spots on the Yamaha head would turn itself off. So I had to use the Mackie 150 and daisy chain the 2 PA6S's to be able t use them. There are also only 1 set of controls and all plug in's are from the rear as opposed to the Mackies being both back and rear and the Mackies have seperate contorls for each of the inputs. So all in all I prefer the Mackies and will use the Galaxy's but probably wouldnot buy them again or recomend then for some one to buy. Try the Mackies and I might still try to get 1 of the Beringer's just to see how they work!

          Drummers love it!

          By Perfect Tommy

          from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

Though I'm a bass player at heart, I also double as the sound engineer. After a few years of lugging a floor monitor & seperate power amp around for the drummer...(when they can hear whats going on up front it makes a bassists life much easier!) Anyway, I decided to lighten the load, cut down on setup & tear down time, & save precious floor space by investing in the Galaxy PA6S. It sounds great, cuts through the noise, & is easy on the back, if not the wallet. I've used it with 4 different drummers in different situations & they've all loved it & appreciated the consideration & effort to provide them with more than adequate monitor. (Again, if the drummers on, the bass player can do his job. The two are one when you're in the pocket.) I had the occasion to use it for myself in a tight setup & was very pleased even though we had 5 musicians & vocalist jammed together. The PA6S is a little giant! Plenty of power, most of the time volume is at half or less, tone shaping is more than enough, built in compression makes sure the vocals are up front & in your face, if you like that. I place the PA6S on a std. mic stand, takes up minimal floor space & the stand makes a good door stop when loading in & out!I've had mine for about a year & have had no problems with it. Casing is all plastic but is sturdy & can take some bumps along the way. It's small enough & light weight to fit into a trap case, shoulder bag, cord bin, etc. Will not hold up as a football though. At $ it's not cheap but you'd spend that much & more for a powered floor monitor or speaker cab. & power amp.I do not use the pass thru feature so no complaints there.

          Hot spot

          By 6Strings2theWind

          from california

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

I bought the galaxy PA6 Hot Spot monitor, intending to use it as a replacement for a floor monitor. I play acoustic guitar through a Fishman pro-eq II preamp. I hoped that I could use this as a personal monitor for my vocals and intrument, and use the "pass through" to send separate mic and instrument signals to our general mixer/PA system, for combination with other instruments and vocalists. On first trial, I noted that the instrument "pass through" did not pass through! An email to Galaxy tech support provided the reason: the pass through ONLY works on the XLR input, not the 1/4" input I was using. I bought an inline plug adapter (1/4" female to XLR male), and put this on the XLR input connector on the PA6. I used a standard microphone cable (XLR on both ends) to connect the PA6 "thru" output to the input of our PA, and this then worked as *I* expected it to work. This "feature" was not mentioned in the catalog description, nor in the user manual. It would have been nice to know that from the start. Also, the adapter for a microphone was an additional $20+ dollars, which seemed a bit pricey to me. I bought one anyway, and was pleased with the overall design and perfomance. The speaker is plenty loud for my application, and is preferable to floor monitors I have used. Overall, a pretty good, light and portable solution to personal monitor, with a few cautions, as mentioned in this review.

          Not Quite As Described

          By David Bruce Murray

          from Ellenboro, NC

Comments about Galaxy Audio PA6S 170W Personal PA System/Monitor:

This speaker is described as having the following feature:"Pass through on each channel acts as a built-in splitter"What the description neglects to mention is the pass through only functions for the XLR inputs. If you use either of the 1/4" inputs, or the 1/8" input on channel 2, it will only pass the signal to the XLR outputs when the internal amp is turned OFF!I had purchased this with the idea of using it in place of a direct box for a keyboard on one channel and music tracks on the other. If you're thinking of a similar application, understand the signal must come in through the XLR inputs before this device will actually work as advertised. When I got it, I thought it was defective and returned it. When I got another one, it operated the same way, so I called Galaxy directly and talked to an engineer. He verified that the thru outputs are designed to only operate from the XLR inputs. Nowhere in the description or even in the manual that comes with this product is this design flaw mentioned. Otherwise, it sounds great, and it's nice having separate volume controls and a three band EQ to mix two signals for monitoring purposes.
