Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
OK At this price I just had to give it a try but, as usual, you get what you pay for. The sound quality is not great and if you run it wireless through a mixing board to add effects it creates hiss and background noise. It is pretty clear for speaking when plugged wireless directly into my Bose system with no effects and can be used in front of the mains with no feedback (a great benefit). Because of that I plan to keep it so I have a cheap wireless to hand off to MCs, hosts or anyone making announcements at venus I play.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
The sound delivered is incredibly weak and tinny, I was louder and better understood without a microphone. This product should be discontinued.
I returned this item. It made the old Mr. Microphone of the 1970's that would hook up to a transistor radio sound good. It is an embarrasment and should no longer be carried.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
I've read the reviews that are all over the place for the GM 16 from the worst sounding system that is inconsistent or didn't work at all to the fact that this is an incredibly flexible and inexpensive setup that will work whether you have a need for wireless or wired microphone sound.I found all these things to be true and that there is a learning curve to get a clear understanding of how to use this product successfully. When I first plugged this into my home amplifier, it was all static and no sound. But I quickly realized that the Yamaha Amplifier also has an FM tuner, which was probably interfering with the FM signal. Lesson #1-Never use the GM 16 with any equipment that produces or receives an FM signal of any kind.My UHF Samson 55 wireless microphone works fine in this application. Again, because it is transmitting on UHF, which the Yamaha Receiver/Amplifier does not transmit and therefore cannot interfere in the signal.I bought all 3 channels of the GM 16 to have flexibility. Channels A & C worked fine, but the B Channel did not work out of the box/packaging and it appeared that the packaging had been opened before. The receiver light never came on and I think that was the problem. Musician's Friend is sending me a new one.I used the A & C Channel microphones for about 3 hours with no problems, but after that they wouldn't work. I was hustling around but couldn't figure out what was wrong.I had been using rechargeable batteries and I think there must be a pretty heavy drain/draw of power from this GM 16 FM transmitter and receiver combination. They stopped working after about 3 hours. But while they worked and as long as I was in line of sight, just like tuning an FM Radio, it worked fine.Lesson #2 Use FRESH BATTERIES, rechargeable or otherwise and have a spare set ready to go when the first set is depleted.Lesson #3 Be sure the mic transmitter antenna is pushed fully in and has a good connection. Also, at times, if I bent the antenna a little bit and held it with a little pressure or just held it, it would work better.I think much like an FM radio will use your body as an extension of the antenna if you hold it a certain way.Anyways, this CAN BE an incredibly flexible and inexpensive way to go wireless. AND you always have the backup that this is also a wired mic and you can switch out the xlr antenna, with the XLR wired input and you'll be good to go!Enjoy! Just learn to work with it. Unfortunately this system is so simple, that I could not find any instructions that came with it in the packaging, which would resolve a lot of these issues people had with the product.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
I bought this mic about a week before my first show because I figured it was the most economical way to go wireless. I knew that it wouldn't be the best but I figured that it would be passable. Boy was I wrong! There is no depth to the sound of this mic, wireless or otherwise. It sounds like an AM radio transmission or worse (I am aware that it's FM). Sometimes it won't work at all if certain amps are on that somehow cause problems with the reception. I did not and would never use this live and would only use for practice as a last resort. This mic does have a few positives though. The finish on the mic makes it look much more expensive than it is. It's a sort of metallic gray color rather than the black pictured. This mic probably would work for public speaking if that's its intended purpose however when I used it as a mic even to speak with at my show, most of the audience yelled that they couldn't understand what I was saying because of the fuzzy sound.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
This Wireless microphone is amazing for the price you pay. When I bought mine, the cable was broken, but the wireless features have prevented me from returning it. If you're a musician on a budget, this is definitely a good buy.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
I needed a cheap wireless mic to use on my first DJ job (I do a lot of sound stuff, but up until now it's all been wired). It's not bad for that. The switch makes static when you switch it (annoying to say the least) and the reciever's antenna is really flimsy--it's one of those wires that just hangs out. I'm building a new case with an adapter and a real antenna. Feedback rejection is really good, and sound quality isn't bad either. The mic is really attractive with it's shiny finish, but it probably will scratch easily. If you're looking for a cheap wireless mic for low quality applications, this is probably one of the best out there.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
At first I was hesitant in buying this mic but after using it I must admit that I am very impressed. For such a low price, I wasn't expecting very much but the sound quality is incredible both wireless and wired. I live down the street from a radio station and even then had little to no interference. This is not only a mic I would use on stage but one that I would recommend to anyone wanting wireless on a budget.
Comments about Gem Sound GM16 Handheld Wireless/Wired Mic:
I've owned two of these for a while now and they are decent for P.A. and small venue performances. They seem to have held up well but they do go through batteries pretty quickly.
