Comments about Gemini CDJ-210 Tabletop CD/MP3 Player:
So far so good. I have had this for a few weeks and have used it 10 hours or so. Great for just playing music, fun to play with the scratch thing and pretend to DJ. I got it to use adding sound effects and scratch sounds into an ambient drum and bass project. I was thrilled to find a player with reverse play in this price range.Backward voices are always trippy. The pitch changer is cool I am still on a learning curve with the loop function. It has some other stuff like the program function I have not messsed with yet.Since this is the only one of these things I have used I cannot say how it stacks up against other ones in this price range. It does have the reverse play, which I did not see in other ones I looked at. It is not a compact or solid feeling piece of equipment but not cheep feeling either.I would say this is a good buy for the money.I am happy with it so far.

Comments about Gemini CDJ-210 Tabletop CD/MP3 Player:
This player had the specifics I needed for my cabaret style performances.. it cues to the beginning of the MUSIC, not just the beginning of the track. And it has single play option, so it will automatically stop after each song and I can talk between songs. Then just one touch to the big round play/pause button and the next song is cued and starts immediately. Perfect. Also I can change key easily with the slider. Delivery was fast and MF checkout experience was easy.
Pros
- Clear Sound
- Straight-forward
Cons
- Lack of precision
- Unreliable
Best Uses
- Amateur Recording
- Learning to Mix
Comments about Gemini CDJ-210 Tabletop CD/MP3 Player:
I've been mixing drum & bass since the late 90s, and I got a pair of these to supplement my vinyl turntables. I've long been a "vinyl purist," but some tracks are downloads only, so I wanted CDJs to spin those tracks. I was looking for no-frills, start-stop, simple pitchshift decks that basically did only what my tables did. I believe that the DJ should mix the music and not have the equipment do it for him/her. These seemed perfect: no bpm counter, no tap button to match speeds, just a CD version of vinyl decks. But there are problems...simple, glaring problems:
Firstly, the pitchshifter only increases and decreases in half-percents. Anyone who has some experience mixing will tell you that .1 or .2% can be the difference between a great mix and a 50-beat pile-up. This jump of half-percents means that your tracks are almost never running at the same speed; you constantly need to adjust with the boost buttons or the jog wheel. The jog wheel IS great for pitch bending (it's responsive and has a vinyl-mixing feel, like grabbing a record), which is a good thing since you will be using it pretty much nonstop babysitting your mix.
Secondly, there was, AT BEST, a 50-50 chance that the track would skip on playback. I tried multiple CDs, burned (and finalized) and production CDs. I contacted Gemini, and they said they had never heard of such a thing...and I, somehow, had 2 decks that were both doing it. Gemini wanted me to return the decks to them for new ones; I was unsure of the whole product line. I sent them back to Musician's Friend and got a different brand.
That said, I love Gemini products. I've been using the same Gemini turntables for about 14 years, and they are workhorses. I expected the same from the CDJ-210s and was disappointed. If these 2 problems were corrected, I'd have been absolutely happy; as is, if you can scrape together a few more dollars, opt for something better.
Comments about Gemini CDJ-210 Tabletop CD/MP3 Player:
This is a great CDJ to use and something to invest in if you're wanting to get into DJing for the first time. Its cheap but it works and is solid. Its also nice to have a disc platter for better pitch bending and cue searching which is great for beginners since beatmatching using the pitch is way too difficult.
Repeat: Obviously when the track is finished, the song repeats. Personally, I don't find much use for it, but its possibly because of the genre I mix. Maybe someone can find a good use for it.
PGM: Not sure what it stands for, but basically you can create a playlist for a single CD. So if you're doing a mix and a CD has a lot of songs you want to mix, you can use the PGM to play track 1, then 4, then 8 for example.
Break: Not as accurate as a turntable, but very close. Either way, its still very useful and I find myself using it all the time.
Reverse: There's a 0.5 second lag so if you want to do a reverse while in the mix, good luck. It'll throw everything off. I don't use it, but its nice to have. My turntables don't even have a reverse option.
Scratching: How does it hold up? It doesn't. If you want to scratch, get a direct drive turntable because there's a huge 2 second lag after you scratch. Unless you plan on doing just baby scratches, you wont be able to go very far with it.
It feels a bit flembsy when you pick it up and its very light-weight.
Although with some minor issues here and there, so far it works perfectly fine and after owning it for a year, its still as solid as it was the first day I got it.
