Its single rackspace design ensures discreet integration into your rack setup, making this handy recording device ideal for DJs, musicians, bars, clubs, schools, houses of worship and anywhere else high-quality audio recording is a must. The DRP-1 is also great for front-of-house applications, even as a backup recorder for the most sophisticated FOH setups.

For true recording versatility, the DRP-1 features a USB port and SD card slot, allowing you to record directly to a thumb drive or memory card. For added flexibility, you can also choose to record in Stereo or Mono mode. And once your recording is complete, it's easy to download the file to your PC or Mac - just use the included USB cable to connect the DRP-1 to your computer, or simply eject your media storage device and hook it up to your computer directly.

On the back, the unit features a stereo RCA line input, stereo RCA line output, XLR/¼" combo mic input and balanced XLR outputs. On the front, the recorder provides ¼" stereo line inputs, a ¼" mic input and a ¼" headphone jack with dedicated volume control.

I own several recorders and have for decades..this unit intrigued me being rack mount. It operates well, as expected with a couple of out of the box curious oddity's. It records just fine to an SD card or a USB memory stick, no issue. You can select 3x MP3 modes and 1 wav mode. The rotary wheel selects files and adjusts recording volume..so far so good. reading some reviews I noticed some folks talking about erratic record volume levels then returned the unit..TRUE..but the reason why is the unit has AGC and it needs to be turned off, there is no mention of AGC in the manual. In record standby, hold the stop button, AGC ( seen on screen) will turn off. Same with a Noise Gate, turn unit off, pull the mem card., turn on, hold the record button to turn NG off. You cannot delete files directly, no big deal...if you are USB connected to a PC you have to turn the unit off then on and the unit will connect to the PC..delete files thru the PC..or just take the mem card out and plug it into the pc...no big deal. Overall, pleased, keep the record level at the 3rd bar or so and you will have clean recordings with proper volume.Stay out of the black and saturation levels like any digital recorder .For the price this is an excellent unit..if it lasts !

Pay careful attention to the included power supply, my unit shipped with a 12 VDC power supply BUT THIS PRODUCT REQUIRES 5 VDC! I found this out when I first turned on the power. The LCD screen flickered and then went blank. Nothing else happened. So, I suspected a bad power supply and when I checked I noticed the 12 VDC output printed on the sticker didn't match the 5 VDC painted onto the recorder. Well, no magic smoke was released so there was hope that it might still work.

Luckily, I keep a stash of old power packs in a box in the basement. After a few minutes of searching I found one that met the specifications printed on the recorder and that the plug matched. I plugged it in and it works! Yay!

Also, I found that you can delete files. From the file list, select your file using the wheel and then do a long press on the stop button and then do a short press of the play button.

So thankful that I got this to work, I'll be recording practice sessions tomorrow night with the band and then emailing the band members copies so they can practice at home to their own practices!

I gave it 3 stars so hopefully Gemini will notice their mistake with packaging the wrong power supply with this recorder. Otherwise, I'd give it 4 stars. It needs a simpler user interface which a firmware update would fix. Since it has the wheel it'd be easy to have a simple menu system. (I have experience in programming microprocessors for embedded systems).

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

I've been looking for something like this for years! I didn't want to join the Hard Disk multitrack recording world just to easily convert my work to a USB drive and my computer. I use an SD card and my PC's SD Card Reader.
I demo a song and within minutes, I can transfer the SD Card or USB Drive to my computer and see how it sounds and edit the files since they are Wav And Mp3. Mostly universal formats these days. I can even put the songs on my mp3 Player (iPod etc.)

I also use it to convert old Vinyl Records to a digital format.

For me, this is a godsend. my pc gives now me more control over previewing, publishing and sharing my music. And I like the interface, as opposed to wasting valuable CD-R discs each time I master.

I found a particular review on Musicansfriend.com very helpful in disengaging the Noise Gate and AGC settings. Whereas the supplied owners guide fails to mention these things.

      I will recap those now.

      TO TURN OFF AGC
      • In record standby, hold the stop button,
AGC (seen on screen) will turn off.

      TO TURN NOISE GATE off.
      • turn unit off,

Noise Gate should now be turned off.

This unit does what it's supposed to do. It records to a file and the file is clean and sounds good. The problem is the meter. We use it to record events and sometimes it's loud sometimes it's quiet. The meter on the front is not accurate enough to tell if it's clipping or not and it's really just trial and error.

I purchased this for my church to record services. The instruction manual was very vague and frankly the unit didn't work like it was supposed to. I sent it back and purchased the Dennon Professional DN 500R. The Dennon unit cost twice the money but is certainly the better investment. The documentation, functionality, and ease of use will be appreciated by my sound techs. The Gemini unit made three of my best sound techs angry because it wasn't user friendly. You get what you pay for.

We purchased another item before this that while less money, it was very complexe. We exchanged it for this one and what a difference. I don't know how well it will work for a band, but for recording our church service it is great. With different people in the sound booth, it is very easy to operate. Just put in your zip drive, push record, and then push record when you are read to start. you can pause or save when you push stop. that was it.

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

This is the least expensive rackmount audio recorder available. I use these units frequently for speech recording in various lecture halls and classrooms. It records at .WAV or a handful of useful MP3 data rates to SD card, and I've been told you can also record to a USB flash drive. The unit accepts unbalanced stereo -10dB (RCA jacks) and mic level (XLR) and mono mic/stereo -10dB (¼" phone jacks). It's a decent recorder for capturing audio from the mixing console. The only negative features are that it does not accept +4dB line level at the XLR jack, the time-elapsed indicator doesn't indicate seconds after an hour of recording, and the LCD-based VU meter only indicates higher levels. Fortunately, the headphone jack and serves for confidence when the VU meter is not active. I recommend this unit for basic recording, such as house of worship, classroom, lecture halls or MP3 playback.
