Comments about Gemini MPA-3000 Portable Speaker:

Purchased this to use at an outdoor wedding where no AC power was available. Used it for vocal/guitar and mp3 playing. Overall, did a nice job. Sound was clear and reasonably EQ'd out of the box for the speaker size. A little more pronounced on the high end, but the guitar's EQ handled that no problem. Live performance came out well-balanced. Battery was sufficient to last through the ceremony with power to spare. The echo effect is pretty useless, but it does have some reverb mixed in and I found that just barely adding a pinch of it gave just enough subtle reverb (without the stupid echo) to add some useful effect. Better than nothing. This won't replace a quality acoustic amp or pa, but for the purpose of portability it does a good job. If you play on the sidewalk or at the park and need some amplification without plugging in, it is not bad. Speaker pole mount is a plus. Lots of input choices if you add background tracks, as well. It is what it claims to be and for the price probably can't be beat.

Comments about Gemini MPA-3000 Portable Speaker:

I've had this a few months, and it's pretty great. The manual states the battery is Li-ion, not Ni-Cad as another comment says. This is much better for me than the lead-acid batteries of other PAs in this price range. The functional design is well-thought out, and the many, many available connections are fantastic (dual XLR was a big one for me, since one of my guitars must be miked). 50% volume fills my apartment very comfortably (850 square feet or so, 3 rooms). I've used this as a PA for open mic nights, acoustic guitar amp, electronic drum amp, and FM radio around the house. Its speakers cover a wide frequency range with the 10" speaker and the tweeter, so it handles all of these functions quite well.
The biggest quirk- the device must be powered on to charge! Turning off the power switch cuts power to both the battery and the amp, contrary to how many devices operate these days. I contacted Gemini support to find out what was wrong (really rapid charging and discharging), and it turns out that the battery was simply near empty, and it needed to be turned on to charge.

Comments about Gemini MPA-3000 Portable Speaker:

I like that the unit runs off a rechargeable battery but the sound is poor. The tweeter and woofer should never have had equal amps (50 watts each). The tweeter is too pronounced and the unit provides no ability to tweak the tone. The overall sound is too "bright" lacking low end. I bought a blemished unit for a great price otherwise I would be returning it. I was really looking for a battery run, blue-tooth unit with decent low end compared to all the small speaker available. The aux inputs have no volume even with the gain turned up. I never heard a system where the blue-tooth connection was stronger/fuller than the sound source being hard wired via the aux input. I suppose the use of an external mixer would help the tone and lack of volume using the aux input but then the mobility is out the window.

Comments about Gemini MPA-3000 Portable Speaker:

It is very difficult if not impossible to find a good sounding battery powered amp that has enough volume to handle outdoor events and still have clarity, ie.e, not sound "tinny". I have owned a few, including the Roland Street Cube and AC-33 and none have been beyond just tolerable. I was hesitant to try this Gemini (I thought they made fairly low-end stuff) but when a Deal of the Day came up for this amp that was too hard to resist and I was thrilled with it at a large outdoor wedding I played recently - good sound (thanks to the larger speakers compared to the Rolands and others), two inputs for mics or guitar and mic, plus lots of other inputs if you want to use an MP3 player, IPAD, etc. Having a built in NiCad battery, no more having to use multiple AA's. It charged right up and even after over two hours of use it still had 80% of its charge. It is a bit bulky but the padded handle and built in wheels with handle (similar to a roll-on suitcase) make it reasonably easy to transport. Only two complaints: the owner's manual is woefully bad (no instructions, just a diagram of features with laughably bad English) and a lack of any type of EQ for the inputs, just a cheesy sounding reverb. Best to buy a stand-alone EQ box if you need to tweak the sound, but the overall sound without additional EQ is pretty good. This is definitely a remarkably good and inexpensive choice for a musician needing battery powered amplification, possibly the best on the market.

Comments about Gemini MPA-3000 Portable Speaker:

        - Easily the best feature, there's about every input known to mankind, including Bluetooth and FM built-in.

        - Extremely portable, similar to a carry-on suitcase. The cabinet seems sturdy, with reinforced edges.

        - Low-end microphone and XLR cable are included. Handy for karaoke, announcements at a wedding, etc. Since there are two XLR/TRS inputs, you can plug in an instrument and mic. Great if you're the type who likes to make impromptu performances, especially since it has a rechargeable battery.

        - Individual tone and delay/echo effect controls (nice little feature) for XLR/TRS inputs.

        - Stereo phono line out, which can be connected to the input of another amp. A phono to RCA patch cord is also supplied.

        - Speakers: Bottom ported 10" woofer and a 3" tweeter. At 50 watts, they sound surprisingly good when cranked with one caveat: There are no master EQ/tone controls. The XLR/TRS inputs are the only ones which have them. Whatever other input is used has to have tone controls, or you'll get sound from the source as-is. This is the only major down side, but if using a tablet or phone most apps have an EQ built-in.

        - I really haven't exercised the battery much, but it only dropped from 100% to 90% after 2.5 hours of playing just the FM tuner at about 1/3 volume. I'm sure the drain would be faster using other inputs, especially at louder volumes.

        - The XLR input jacks were extremely tight the first few times I seated the connectors, to the point I feared they'd break. Thankfully, they loosened up after that.

        - The user's manual is woefully inadequate, two pages which very briefly cover everything on the unit. Even so, everything is pretty easy to figure out.

Considering the features and extras that come with it, this is a surprisingly great value. With a 1 year warranty, I'm not too concerned with durability. Overall, I'm very pleased, and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.
