These cabs have been exposed to a number of environments over the past year. We do live performance, as well as, dj & karaoke work. They've been used indoors, big & small, outdoors (usually big) and in an offshore marine enviroment 2 or 3 times a month aboard a Casino cruise boat (all summer, topside on the weather deck...sheltered, but very open air...salt air). They've been rained on, they've been left in the van in freezing and sweltering hot conditions and they've served as extensions of a larger system at an all day benefit with 9 different bands slamming into them. They show little to no signs of wear & tear; physically or audibly.

We've recently upgraded our system and they now serve as our mains high atop (on a stick!) above 18" subs (subs are a huge help with these...they're fine on the lows for smaller stuff, but if you're going to crank them, they can use some help with the bottom end). They get the main mix while the subs (2) and monitors (4) are each independant systems. They don't even blink (except, of course, for the clip indicator...right or wrong, I've come to ignore that....I know what levels we're running.)

The heatsink on the back, though a neccessary evil, is a little awkward and is always a consideration when handling the cabs (load ins & outs, etc). They will rip skin...and upholstery if carelessly loaded...so we don't carelessly load them!

Overall, the experience so far has been nothing less than great with these troopers. They do everything we bought them for and they have risen to every occasion with no fuss. I've made some bad decisions equipment-wise in the name of 'economical', but this wasn't one of them. Just buy 'em and put 'em to work...I've not been disappointed.
These very versatile Harbinger (affectionately refered to as 'Headbangers') APS15 cabs have ample inputs and adjustments to be used as a stand alone PA for solo performances in smaller venues...no mixer...just plug & play.
I had to re-torque a few screws after several uses, but otherwise, they've stood up to all we've put them through. The sound is great, never a problem. They do seem to clip a little soon, at least according to the blue clip indicator light, but audibly, never noticable.
Before buying them (2), I did my homework and decided hands down, these offered the most bang for the buck and then some.

After buying these and using them frequently (at least once weekly, often times more), i can say for certain that they are a very low quality. For a 15" speaker they don't hanlde a lot of watts, they clip easily, they hiss, they sound muddy even when eq'd, and there are plenty of other better alternatives. I don't even use this as a monitor because of all of the hiss. I used to run my pair as my drum monitors, but i have since upgraded to kustom powered monitors, and they sound better for a better price
Features are good; XLR 1/4" and RCA inputs and a graphic eq, but the onboard eq doesn't help at all
Seriously low quality. i purchased these in a cheap pa package and i was sorely disappointed. The quality just isn't there, everything sounds muddy and the speakers have a pretty harsh hiss to them when nothings coming through them
They're really cheap for a powered 15", but i would invest in something a little higher quality. I upgraded to two pv215 towers and crown power amps to run them, and the sound quality is far superior, a night and day difference

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

Bought item as an opened item with full warranty. The 1st speaker came with one of the speakers rattling in the casing and no power cord. I had to send it back. The second speaker soundly like there was a blown speaker. The sound was horrible, and could be turned up as load as TV. I also had to send it back. 1st and last time I order Harbinger... No more

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

I already had an APS12 that I got for free with another MF purchase (Kustom 210 unpowered monitors)so when I saw an APS15 in grade 1 condition, I picked it up. The APS15 is much larger than its 12" sibling and quite a bit heavier as well. While these are no JBL or QSC, they are also much more affordable. These units are great for solo or duet acts or for use as monitors. I have used them as satellite/remote PA for 4th of July events that needed a bit more sound reinforcement to some adjacent grassy areas around the main pavillion that the FOH mains weren't covering.

As far as the condition of the grade 1 unit, the only damage I can find is on one of the feet. That and there was no original packaging.

Would I pay full price for an APS15? No. I am a buyer at the discount pricing however. An APS15 makes for a good backup, although the APS12 is much more convenient size-wise. I've even used them as passive sub-woofers by placing them on top of empty Rubbermaid bins and only sending bass from the crossover/loudspeaker management rack.

So if your budget is constrained, these can do the trick for you. Don't expect whomping bass, you'll need external subwoofers for that. But for a small vocal and keys or vocal and acoustic event, these will fit the bill.

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

I am a professional Audio-Visual tech of over 40 years experience in setting up all kinds of PA systems for all kinds of venues. Many have shot down this powered speaker but I have found it to be quite capapable in many many situations. The most important feature is the built in five band EQ. I usually set the lowest bass slider to the "detent" position, the No.2 slider also to the detent. The mid slider to the first mark just above the detent. The mid high band slider to half a notch above the detent, and finally the fifth slider high end to the mid or detent position. If for any reason I need a bit more bass I use the second slider moved to half a notch above detent position. The systems are suitable for small to medium venues and will provide all the room filling sound you should need. In a slightly larger than medium venue I use FOUR of these systems so I can move more air. The built in mixer for mics and line in and out is very nice and I have had great results in using all the features of this compact powered speaker system. The key here to good performance from this system is the proper use of the BUILT IN equalizer. IF you have to do a BIG venue gig then you WOULD be better off using a much higher end system for when driven to high levels this system even in multiples of six or eight is still not quite adequate. For small to just above medium venues it is just fine, especially if you can use FOUR of them.

I'll keep it simple - Acoustic 3-piece - We have used these for over 3 years at over 150 performances and they are as good as the day we bought them.. Add a sub-cabinet for larger venues.. These aren't high end quality but are 1/3 the price of JBL's and they sound good enough. Just recently used them with a powered sub to run sound for a 4- piece country band at an outdoor festivel. They held up but this was a stretch of their potential.. Worth the price!

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

I bought these speakers as a intermediate pair of speakers to use with my fifteen inch powered Behringers that I've owned for the last 4 years. I was quick surprised that they weighed less than the Behringers. The added feature that I loved is having the 2 Microphone input and line level inputs. The quality is now as good as the Behringer but I'm satisfied.

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

These speakers are fairly powerful, the sound quality is pretty good unless you are turning them up all the way, or close to. The amp is set up fairly well, the inputs are standard issue as well as the volume knobs. The 5 band eq is fairly useless, I have found that its best not to mess with, you're going to get the sound quality you get out of them. If you mess with it they end up sounding pretty bad. When looking at these speakers keep in mind, they are not meant to fill a packed concert hall with great sound. If used in a mobile dj set up they can handle a small crowd alone, however for the price this is what you should expect. This isn't a top of the line product, and it doesn't come with a top of the line price. With that said you can still achieve good quality, room filling sound with these. As long as your room isn't a gymnasium.

Comments about Harbinger APS15 15" Powered PA Speaker:

We have 4 of these powered speakers and one of an exact cab copy. The amp and mixer on this speaker is perfect for most gigs, I did make a modification on two of them, adding a 1/4 inch speaker out before the crossover, when we add an additional 8 ohm speaker. (4 ohm total load).

With these we seldom bring the big PA to gigs, we were surprised that they are able to fill most venues. Typically, we use a Mackie mixer and the Harbingers are set between 50 and 65% (guessing) output power. Occasionally we see the clip light, but we haven't been able to hear any sound degredation. We have been using these for almost three years without any problem, averaging 5 gigs a month. We also use these ocassionally as monitors, never had a problem.

These honk out some noise. Operative words honk and noise as apposed to reproduce and music. That being said no layperson really gets sound quality. I had an oficient tell me my behringer system was the clearest she had ever heard. I know a DJ who uses these harbingers as his main setup and charges over a hundred an hour and gets referrals. These speakers make enough noise to handle a medium wedding at most venues and have enough compression to keep you from blowing them if you do something stupid momentarily. For the money a good value. I run a top of the line jbl/crown setup for most my gigs. These will work for wedding ceremonies, karaoke parties, backup systems etc. It just depends on how well you take care of them and whether or not you got a dud. Mine seem to work but haven't put them through the wringer yet.
