I bought this Vari 1012 for my partner who is singing to background tracks. Being on a pretty strict budget led me to this try this powered speaker, which was on a super sale for One Twenty Nine. After setting up the Vari 1012 and using it for about one hour, I immediately ordered two more for myself. The speaker sounds very musical with both pre-recorded music and live instruments. I am a pro drummer, but I also play piano and occasionally need a small PA for some trio jobs in smaller to mid-sized rooms. The speaker sounds very good and handles backing tracks and a vocalist with ease - again for smaller to mid-sized rooms. the Vari 1012 is lightweight (I think about 25lbs) and will be easy for almost anyone to move around without much effort. I will be matching my pair up with a small powered sub, which should give me a very capable, portable, very-affordable PA that will certainly meet my needs. I can also use a single Vari 1012 as a stage monitor with my commercial rock band is if every have a need to do so. I also purchased the 2 year extended service plan for all three speakers, which makes each speaker cost about a buck-fifty each. If your PA needs are similar to mine I would certainly recommend this brand to anyone.

I bought this on a "stupid deal of the day", so it was a very inexpensive purchase. Comparing it to similar 12" powered speakers that I own from EV and Alesis, it doesn't sound nearly as good - not as much bottom end and harsher in the midrange. Probably ok as a floor wedge, but I wouldn't want to use it on a pole as a main PA speaker because of its unflattering tone. On the plus side, it is significantly lighter than the other speakers mentioned above. And it certainly is affordable!

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1012 12 in. Active Loudspeaker:

This powered speaker is a very reasonable one to use. It is not overly expensive and it does sound nice if you use an external eq. By itself it is a bit muddy on bass response, but an average eq will bring it up to stage quality. This set is used with a praise group, not too loud, and covers a seating area of about 100. It is all acoustic with with no bass guitar at the present time, and instruments are ran into a mixer with eq and then to powered speakers. Would not run bass into this set for mains because it would not handle it. The setup is clean and quiet with good quality after all is mixed. I have ran sound boards before and this is simple and effective for moderate sized rooms.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1012 12 in. Active Loudspeaker:

OK Harbinger, thanks for a fairly good product -- it's a tasty, compact, well-built little PA speaker that does what it says it does... except for one major problem: the 2nd channel is whisper quiet, even when the master volume is maxed out at the 2nd channel volume is at 100%. I understand that this is because XLR signals are generally less robust than signals from a 1/4" jack, but what you've given us is a PA whose second channel is essentially useless unless you have another amped signal going into the 2nd channel.
You might have at least put the 1/4" jack on the 2nd channel; that would have made it at least possible to use for an acoustic guitar and a vocal mic (while maintaining channel independence), but as it stands, this unit is functionally useless for two mics without buying another expensive piece of equipment.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1012 12 in. Active Loudspeaker:

These are light, loaded with features & look great........for the money.......but let's be honest these are cheap speakers and they don't sound very good....(you can tweak out your EQ to compensate).....Harbinger has come a long way and these would be fine for the beginner to intermediate DJ, or solo musician....or maybe to use as a satellite speaker to pipe sound to another room which I do sometimes on large events............another negative is they are rounded and will not double as a floor wedge....I'm a little disappointed as it's such a great looking speaker and loaded with features.......Harbinger does offer another step up with more power but I'm unsure as it looks like I'm still speaker shopping.

I use this as an electric drum set monitor at church, as a way to listen to my music, and will use it as a stand alone PA system to amplify a speaker. The line out will make recording messages easy.

Comments about Harbinger Vari V1012 12 in. Active Loudspeaker:

I bought this to use as a lightweight keyboard monitor. It is very easy to use and to carry, it doesn't have quite enough power for my needs. I play with a louder drummer and I have to put this up on a chair next to me to hear properly. If you don't have a loud drummer this would be the perfect little monitor.
