They are not Mackie's, JBL's or QSC's for starters. But, they are awesome budget speakers that feel very solid. I have used them to mobile DJ about 5 times already and I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance. Please keep things in perspective when you buy these speakers and know what you're getting. I would recommend them for 1st timers, solo musicians, duos, trios, guitar and instrument performers, patios, small venues, speeches and seminars, smaller house parties and background music. I would NOT use them for rock concerts, night clubs, bigger wedding receptions and high end/high profile performances. I would use them for wedding ceremony background music and microphones and then use my JBL's in the wedding reception hall for dancing. I just finished DJ-ing my 2nd house party in 2 days. The first was a patio gig for about 30 people. The 2nd was an indoor party for the same number. I must say that I was really impressed with how much I could push them with never a clip light, not even one. And I was frequently checking (I always do), especially on those harder hitting bass drops. The sound quality was just fine. Not the crisp cleanliness of my JBL's, but also not sloppy, tinny, distorted or muffled. It was a very good, clean and balanced signal that everyone thought sounded great. I'm sure the low price is due to Chinese manufacturing and inferior internal parts compared to the Mackie. There's just now way MF and GC can sell them for that low of a price if the components are the same grade. As evidenced by the main volume knob on one speaker. It doesn't travel as smooth as the other one, so I see some inconsistency in production QC or grade of materials. Not an issue for me. All these factors probably indicate why it has a 2 year warranty compared to 5 or 7 years. I got mine on a SDOTD special so I will be just happy if I get lots of use out of them by then. 5 stars for very good sound for a bargain buck. If they fail before 2 years, I'll tell ya.

I purchased these due to the extremely good price at Musicians Friend. I needed some higher powered speakers for some of my bigger gigs. Normally use my really great sounding smaller speakers for the small venues we normally do. The price on these got cut almost in half, due to a new model of essentially the same thing from Harbinger. Overall, for the money, they sound good, with plenty of power. The bottom end lacks the "tightness" you get from better QSC, JBL, EV speakers, but they don't cost the big money that the name brands cost either. I use subwoofers anyhow, so that helps tighten up the low end. The HF horn is a littel bit harsh, but not bad. They are pretty darn flat in response, and meet the Harbinger specs pretty much to the letter. Hey, for the money I paid for them, they are a great buy, and sound just fine.

Seems reasonably well made and durable, but other, somewhat more expensive active speakers offer better performance and value.

      Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

Professional Musician is an overstatement, but I gig periodically with a few friends, doing mostly private parties, block parties, etc... We play country / blues / classic rock type stuff, and are typically low to medium volume. We play a lot of outdoor venues, and we typically aim for audience members being able to carry on a conversation at about 50' from the stage. We are a 3 piece, 2 guitars, and 1 bass.

We purchased the Vari V2112s on dirt cheap sale for Black Friday as monitors as we had a different brand of powered 15s at the time. Money issues forced us to sell the 15s and we pressed the v2112s into service as mains. They have worked so well that we really aren't in a hurry to upgrade.

We use them to carry vocals, and drum synth, and have never had any reason to want anything more. Audience feedback has been 100% positive. The new style Harbinger logo and housing looks FAR better than the prior models.

I am not going to claim that they are comparable to QSCs, JBLs etc... they aren't, but if your band gigs frequently enough to need a PA and renting cuts too deep into your budget, and infrequently enough to justify high end gear, these are well worth looking into...

The one weak spot I have found, aside from the relatively low-ish max SPL of 118db (I don't want my head next to them at that volume!) is the control knob location for the build in volume / mixer type controls. They kind of stick out a bit from the back and could be vulnerable to transportation damage. We use foam blocks to cover the knobs, and wrap the speakers in moving blankets. 10ish months of on and off gigging, in and out of the back of trucks, trunk of my car etc... And not a scratch on them yet...

      Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I got one of these when it was the STOD. The price was so low, I had to get one. Unfortunately, the speaker arrived with 3 of the 4 grill mounting posts snapped off. Which was odd, because the box looked fine, and there was no other damage. Anyway, MF sent me a return label, and then shipped out a new speaker, which arrived in good shape. This speaker gets satisfyingly loud, and the sound quality is very good. Not QSC good, but it costs about 1/8 the price. Has several different inputs, which is convenient. The bass isn't thunderous, but not bad, either. A subwoofer would be best for an outdoor gig. I used a pair of Kustom powered speakers a few years ago, and these are light years better than those. Solid value.

        Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I bought two of these for our gospel band to use at our smaller church gigs. We then got two other brand speakers with 15 inch speakers to use as mains and use theses as monitors. The 15's were rated at 800 watts peak and they retailed for a lot more money too. They could not even come close to the sound quality or the sound pressure levels of these Harbingers. No these are not QSC's but for the price point you will not find any speaker that sounds as good as these little baby's or cranks any louder while doing it. I sent the 15's back and bought two more of these.

          Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

This is a 12" powered loud speaker (sub and horn) The sound quality is pretty clear, though not exactly musical. It's easy to use and seems to adequate for use as a floor monitor or even a main, depending on the size of the venue. I have only used it a few times for practices and I'm still not sure I'll keep it. I can't recommend it just yet because I don't know if it's gig worthy.

The one thing that was strange was that I bought it during one of those phone -in sales promotions, and the salesperson applied the wrong discount. When I tried t get this corrected, MF gave me the run around. Usually, they are pretty good at making the sales go smoothly, but I would have preferred an online purchase with a coupon code instead of multiple emails and phone calls. I'm still not sure if they credited my account with the difference.

I wanted to leave an update of my experience. My first V2112 stopped working after a few weeks of use playing my iphone through it. Just did not work when I turned it on one day. I contacted MF by email, and got a reply from Daniel that a rep would handle this for me. I called and worked with Jason, who did a great job setting up an exchange for me. (He also sold me on a 2 year coverage!). I really liked this unit while I used it, and was looking forward to seeing it in action with my band live, as I am planning to use it as a monitor on my side of the stage. Now I'm looking forward to the replacement, and I will add to my review after I get to use it live.

            Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I've owned one pair of these just over a year, (bought on SDOTD), and loved them so much I bought another pair this year, also on SDOTD. These guys are super versatile, compact, fairly lightweight, and actually sound pretty darn good! I use a pair for mains, and another pair for monitors. It takes a few extra minutes to set therm up compared to passive speakers, but it's worth it to me. They seem powerful enough, especially as stage monitors. Best of all, they're compact enough that I can fit my entire 3 piece band's gear in my 2003 Ford Explorer! My only complaint would be to recess the knobs better. I'm worried they could easily snap off in transport. So far so good though. I really dig these speakers, and definitely recommend them. I'd like to get a pair of the 15" ones as well, or maybe a good powered sub or two. Definitely worth the money, even at regular price. If they go on SDOTD again I may just have to buy another pair!

              Comments about Harbinger Vari V2112 600 W 12" Two-Way Powered Loudspeaker:

I got this as a 'stupid deal'. For the money I spent, and time I've had with it (only a month or so), it has been good to me. I'm personally fond of the RCA input that allows a phone or computer to be cranked anywhere you can find an outlet.

Yes, the knobs are flimsy, but that's the only part of this thing that is noticeably insecure. There is also slight body rattle at screechy volumes - could just be mine. The only big drawback for me is that you can only plug one Mic into it, unless you're using a mixer/preamp into the second channel.
