Have been using a Shure 55sh for the longest time decided to upgrade to this mic becouse of the LED. Good for use on any stage and a real eye catcher. The sound is a bit brighter than the Shure but keeps the same look of the old style mics with a modern twist. Went with the white.

Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
Needed a microphone for radio studio and wanted that warm, old skool sound. This Heil Fin fits the bill perfectly.
Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
Like I said, this mic does sound great, and it is a visual stunner. Unfortunately, it's usefulness is limited (I would give it 3 stars for "usefulness" if there was that category).
Though I have been tempted to sell it for this reason, I still can't seem to part with it so I guess I'll just learn to live with it's limitations.
I give this info. simply as a "heads up" to others considering this mic. Worth the money? Yes. Do I use it as much as I'd like too? No. Would I buy it again? Doubtful.
Made in USA... great looks end extended frequency response compared to most dynamic microphones. Very solid.
I bought this mic about 2 years ago to use mostly live with a retro, Chicago style blues and swing band. It does indeed look awesome onstage and sounds wonderful too.
My only (yet somewhat big) beef is that this mic does tend to feedback quite easily, much more so than an SM58. I own several nice mics, including large diaphragm condensers (AKG 414 for the home studio etc.) and wanted something better for the stage than the standard SM58. This seemed like the ticket... a large diaphragm dynamic! ... and the the looks were so outstanding.
This mic will indeed blow away an SM58, but once you roll off the highs to keep the feedback in check, or simply turn the mic down and try to eat it, in a live situation, you lose the advantage (and I can sing quite loud), I also like to be soft and intimate on the ballads as well, I can achieve this, (sounds great) but too often requires "riding" the mic volume in live situations. That means an aware sound guy, or simply not being able to get a good hot signal for vocal monitors.
I still use this on sax in my live set-up and it works great for that as well, (the sax is louder so no problems as the mic is not as hot).
I can get a much hotter signal on an SM58, so I seem to be going back to that for vocals, as I don't have the time in most situations, to hassle with the sound guy. (It's important to just be able to get up and deliver, especially if you are sharing a stage with another band when quick set-up is a must.)
I am considering buying an automated "feedback destroyer/notch filter" simply so I can use this mic on vocals again.
Worth the price, just beware of this mic's quirks.

Heil's unique mic, THE FIN, is more than the standard mic...Why? Four LED's are embedded in it's housing and they blaze brightly whenever it is connected to a phantom power source...

Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
It is a good mike, solid, heavy and vintage as all get out.. Buy this mike, and IF it breaks...just send it back
It's got a lot of depth and cuts through much better than the SM58. More decibels with a cool look.
The mike stopped working 6 weeks after buying it. I had to go thru the hassle of boxing it back up and shipping it to Musicians Friend. Not their fault, just a bad mike
The sound is uncomparable, good lows ang highs. This is a good mike if it doesn';t break on you

THIS MIC IS AWESOME! IT IS VERY CLEAR SOUNDING AND IT IS AN EYE CATCHER. EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO GET NOTICED.
Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
I bought this thing on a whim, I loved the look and the fact that it lit up. I admit, that's a terrible reason to buy a mic, but it's a Heil, I figured it'd sound pretty good. I was wrong. It sounds better than pretty good, it's the best sounding mic I own, bar none. It's silky smooth, has a wonderful low end response and makes me sound better than I deserve. I use this for live applications such as mobile DJ, Pub Quiz and Karaoke and, not only do I get the obvious "wow, that looks cool" comments, but I get the "wow, you sound good" ones too. I LOVE THIS MIC! It's worth every penny.
Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
Let me start off by saying that I LOVE this mic. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Now that I got that out of the way, my Fin did not come without quirks. First, it likes to cut out when I first plug it in. I tap it a couple of times and that pretty much fixes the problem. It never cuts out while I am singing whatsoever. The main problem I've had with this mic is that it likes to throw the screws attaching the mount to the actual mic. I am currently on my last screw, which leads me to my next problem. My band's schedule will not allow me to submit this back to Heil for repairs. So, I figured I would replace the screws myself. To save time and the horros of Home Depot/Lowe's, I called Heil Sound to find out what size screws it uses. The guy they put me in touch with did not know and needed to go measure a screw and email me the info. I haven't heard from him since. This is an awesome mic and people go crazy over it. It has a great sound as well. So, if you buy this, watch out for the screws falling out.
Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
This microphone from Heil has that great 50's look along with great clarity and warmth. Using an SM58 for the longest time, i just cannot express how much more i cut through the mix with this microphone. It does not make your voice sound bright, but rather crisp. The only problem is the noise it makes when switching the led light on and off, and i wished it picked up lower notes a bit better. Overall though, great microphone, amazing look, decent price, greatly recommended!
Comments about Heil Sound The Fin Dynamic Microphone:
For years I have used an SM-58 but I liked the idea of the Fin Mic...vintage sweetness and clarity both. I have not been disappointed in the Heil Fin. In fact I am simply blown away by its performance. I play each weekend in a house Blues Band. I am the primary singer. Even our faithful regulars now comment on the clarity and expressiveness of my vocals. I'm singing what I always have but the Fin really show cases the vocals in ways the SM-58 could never do. I recommend this mic fully. I got mine in blue ... looks like the head light from a 1954 Caddy on stage. Looks great...sounds great. What's not to love?
