This controller is an amazing concept, too bad it doesn't work for very long. I saw a dj use one for for six hours, and he had one problem. I thought I'd try it out, so I bought one and after two days of trying it would only run for a few minutes before the controller would freeze. I tried it on my brand new Macbook Pro, and my older G4 iBook and had the same results. The sound quality is excellent, the fact that it only takes one port and is port-powered is excellent, and the controls are pretty decent. The special version of Traktor seems to run just fine, a nice change from previous versions, but overall this setup just won't work. If they can work out the bugs, I'd love to own one.
I'd really like to have something like this, but first I must know (as will all mac users) does it worth with my huge iTunes database? Will I get hardware controls on the face of this device that will allow me to select playlists and songs. Is there support for the visualizations feature that still allows the user to see the digital interface of this device? If you have this product and have used it with iTunes as a DJ, please post.
I purchased the Hercules DJ Controller for MAC with intent on using it for my once a week, 2 hour DJ'ing job. There were a few reasons I purchased this product.1) I wanted Traktor DJ Studio2) This version of Traktor can play AAC files (so I could legally buy music and play it through the software)3) I could do loops, and adjust volume w/out using my keyboard4) I could get better sound qualitiy.I cant argue with the quality of sound, it is oustanding! The other features however, are quite lacking. A Stripped Down version of traktor DJ Studio comes with this console. It will not play "content protected" AAC files. The software is so limited, that if you want to do a loop, you must use a preset timing based on the BPM's that the software detects...this doesn't work well. This said, the response between the controller and my MAC was very good...But with the limitations presented, it was just not worth it for my needs.
