I bout two of these systems to replace big, heavy powered 15" mains. I wanted something more lightweight and portable for small gigs.

First off, these things have absolutely amazing sound quality! I plugged in my iPod to demo them and IK could not believe the crystal clear sound and deep, impressive bass. You can really crank the volume with no crackling or distortion.

The set-up is pretty simple - you can stack the two satellite speakers and connect them to the subwoofer/main unit for a cable-free set-up, or mount them on mic stands (or the poles in the accessories kit). Flip a couple switches to match the configuration you're looking for and you're ready to go.

I got these to use as mains for small gigs with my two-piece band. The only negative about these is that the controls are a bit over-simplified. You basically have a level knob and a tone knob for each input. The inputs are for a mic, a guitar/instrument and one for program-level audio. BUT - with a little patience you can find the right settings and get a killer mix.

The low-end output on the Lucas Nano is spectacular. I was not expecting such loud, thunderous bass. :)

For small DJ gigs, weddings, events or house parties, you could not find a more simple, compact, clear and LOUD system for his price! I would put them up against a BOSE any day. For live music applications, this won't fill a big club for a four-piece rock band, but for smaller venues or acoustic gigs it will definitely do the job.

I love that the satellites lock into the back of the subwoofer to make it one tiny, lightweight piece to move. Very cool.

This PA has a nice form factor and is light weight. But IMHO has very limited application. I was hoping to use it for my hybrid acoustic electric guitar for small duo/trio gigs. I wanted to run the acoustic piezo pup from my PRS hollowbody into the NANO to get a more articulate and realisic acoustic sound while running the magnetic pups through my small Quilter amp. The Quilter has an 8 inch speaker so I was hopefull the NANO and Quilter would be a good match. I intended to use one of the other channels for the vocalist.

In short, even in a bedroom settting, I could not get sufficient volume from the NANO. The NANO PA could neither compete nor compliment the Quilter. Again, the NANO has a nice and clear sound, but it did not work for me at all. And, I could see using it only in a very small coffee house, with limited ambient noise, forget about using a drummer.

Additional things to be concerned about: There are no efx on this, so you may need to use some outboard processing.

Most dissapointing: be advised that despite the picture for the MF advert, this PA comes without the pictured stands and cabling. When you open the box and manual it tells you need to buy an add-on pack to set this up in the recommended fashion, stereo imaging requires puschasing the suggested add-on pack and cabless for best set up.

I was more than a bit surprised that Musician Friend let this pictured set up get by. I buy a lot of stuff from them and this is the first time I have encountered such a problem.

Also be aware that Musician Friend will charge you to ship the item back. I rarely return anything, but as I have no use for the PA, I had no choice but to return and incur the shipping fee.

Better luck next time.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I purchased this to use for my solo gig (vocal, guitar, backing tracks). When I first fired up this system I almost sent it back. By itself, it does not meet my needs. There is a pronounced low mid hump that you can only get rid of by turning the sub down leaving the over all sound thin with little bottom end. However, after tuning the system via my Edirol M-10DX with 'Room Acoustic Control for instant automatic room compensation', it really came to life. Keep in mind, most of my gigs are low volume affairs. One outdoor venue where the stage is some 25 feet from the nearest table (and 60 feet from the bar itself) necessitates pushing the unit almost to its usable limits. I am pleased with the results of my first week of live tests. Consider that this system is replacing a Bose L1 with two subs and Tonematch and you will have some idea of the quality of this system. It will push no where near the SPL of the Bose system, yet the sound quality is so comparable most regulars didn't even notice the switch. At less than one quarter of the price and 22 lbs this is miraculous. If you are thinking of getting one of these you owe it to yourself to check it out; just be prepared to EQ liberally.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

As an acoustic guitar player/singer/songwriter I play solo gigs 6-8 times a month. My Genz-Benz acoustic amp ia getting worn and heavy. I purchased the Nano. Played my first gig with it in a loud sports bar. Was amazed at the clarity and volume for the size. It's major short coming is lack of FX and proper EQ. This can be solved with an offboard compact mixer. I also run a variety of peddles (Boss EQ, Dano Delay) and looper with my Taylor 814-CE acoustic. The tiny speakers mount easily on mike stands with the provided adaptors. The result is a nice monitor like effect in both ears with the speakers turned in just a little. I was pushing it's volume capability and got no feedback. Most gigs I play are in quietier venues so I'm sure it will be more than loud enough. Overall I'm very pleased, although in the future the FX and EQ issues will need to be resolved. My acoustic and vocals sound very very good with it. The sound is pleasingly natural and clear. It's also super light and the sub really pumps. Two of these together would really be nice if you play noisier, bigger venues. I say go for it.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I was all set to buy some other gear for my solo pa/piano rig and decided to try this out after reading some reviews. So far I am totally impressed with the sound. Feather-weight and compact, it packs a lot of sound. The workmanship is very good.
After it arrived, I convinced my friend to spend an afternoon doing a side-by-side comparison with his dual Bose Compact rig. We were amazed at the full sound of the HK unit.
Even when we pushed it loud, it maintained excellent fidelity. The dual Bose rig could certainly out-power the HK, but the sound quality comparison was a toss-up. HK will hold it's own in the venues solo musicians typically do.
The stereo sound capability is wonderful for a keyboard player; even if the audience will not be able to appreciate the stereo, it makes a huge diff to those of us who would REALLY like to haul our baby grands around with us.
I've added a Mackie ProFX8 mixer to add reverb for vocals and to give better control over eq and tone. (I would also have to do that with the dual Bose rig.) But the HK would handle my solo stuff fine by itself: vocal, stereo keyboard, guitar.
I've got a bunch of performances coming up, and I'll add a note about how that goes.
I can tell you I've never looked forward to playing my keyboard as much as with the HK behind it.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I did an earlier review on the Lucas Nano. It's been 15 months since I bought my unit. I had a serious problem with mine during a gig. It started going in and out with the sound. The light would go from green to red every 3 seconds or so, no sound, then sound. I've used my unit 2 times a week, every week since I bought it. At about 6 months I had a similar problem but it seemed to correct itself. After the first time though the bass bin didn't seem to crank out as much bass. After the latest incident I contacted Musicians Friend, gave them the necessary info that HK wants for warranty work. After MF's approval I sent my unit in to a Korg repair station in New York. Within a week Korg sent me a brand new unit since they decided they couldn't fix mine. It took about a month total from when I contacted MF about my problem till I got my new unit. You couldn't ask for better service on a piece of musical equipment, no hassle. I am totally satisfied with my experience and warranty. Just remember to send in your warranty card when you purchase your unit. The warranty is good for 5 years. The only bad thing is it cost me 40.00 to ship it to the repair facility. Who ever heard of a 5 year warranty, where the company actually stands by their product without hassling you about a claim. You just can't go wrong here.

I purchased the Lucas Nano 300, based upon the great reviews I have read, never actually hearing them myself, and I have no regrets....they were everything the reviews said they were. They sound great! It's rare, that I would make a purchase sight unseen, but I'm very happy I did.

I used them solely for keyboards to replace my amp. They are great for a small venue, 50 to 100 people. I've tested the Bose L1 series before but never liked the fact that they were mono and the sound always seemed harsh to me wheareas the Lucas Nano has a very warm sound.

So happy I made the purchase.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I'm a one man band, playing a strat to sequenced background music. I also DJ part of the night. I have primarily used the Nano Lucas as a monitor system. The system has an super clear sound. The satellite speakers act as a horn would. I really don't hear any bass coming out of them. That being said, you really need to have the satellites in line with the bass bin. The bass pumps out a nice low end sound. The set up sounds best when your several feet away from it. I play in a medium sized dining room. While DJing I have turned off my peavey 15 inch cabs and just used the Nano Lucas. Of course you have to crank them up to compensate for the 15's. You almost can't tell a difference in the sound from a distance. I can't believe these little 3 and a half inch speakers can sounds as good as 15 inch speaker cabs. They just help fill up the dead spots on stage between the mains. I think ideally having two set ups would be the best sound. You could have a bass bin on each side of the stage. I bought the stands also, which are overpriced. You get adaptors with the set up to put the satellites on mic stands. The controls need to be better marked. I had to get out the manual to figure out what to turn to get a better sound. Overall this set up is super. I want another set up. The wife wants new flooring in the kitchen. Guess who wins.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I auditioned this product as an acoustic guitar rig for live performance in small venues. I was looking to streamline my set-up. The '93 Peavy Ecoustic 120 amp I was using has just worn out, and i've been using a Behrenger Xenyx 802 mixer with a Behrenger b212d powered cab, along with an unreliable old Holy Grail reverb pedal. I wanted an eqasier set up, so I tried the nano. With only volume and tone for controls, it is impossible to get an acoustic guitar sounding food, let alone a solid body electric with a piezo bridge system. Accordingly, an off-board EQ would be needed. Also, with no fx, the sound is as dry as sand, so off-board reverb or delay would also be needed. TOO MUCH set up! Instead, I replaced the 802 board with a Xenyx 1202, which is a better board (4 bands eq/channel, and an on/off switch) Plus it has digital fx that sound good, including a reverb/delay setting that sounds really warm. So I was able to cut out the offboard fx, but that's all - and I maintain a good quality acoustic guitar sound (most important).

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

After reading several reviews written by performers that own the large Bose system (as I do) I found their reports to be very accurate. This system puts out an amazing sound considering the small package. I also use my Bose mixer with it since there is very little equalization and no vocal effects. It works great in small rooms playing to audiences of 80 or less. The connections are well thought out and when one purchases the case and stands all cables are included. One drawback is that it is designed to be placed in front of the performer/s (mixer controls are to the rear of the unit) I have found that, like the Bose unit it works just fine behind the performer with very little or no feedback from the vocal microphones. So if you already have the Bose system this is a great addition to use for small venues.

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I bought this P.A. because I heard good reviews and was needing something that had great sound and lightweight for an edrum monitor. The set up is a breeze, can't believe how light it is....Now comes the test, I hook it up to my drum module, set the levels and start playing my drums...The Sub woofer is powerful and clear, not muddy. The toms are again very clear and the bass drum just sounds great..However the snare going through my Roland monitor and ddrum monitor sounds fuller and warmer..

I made some adjustments on my module with the EQ for the snare and that made a lot of difference. I then EQ'd everything else on the kit and it now sounded really great..For a personal monitor on stage I'm sure it will have more than enough volume for a not so loud band. I plan on hooking it up to the Main band PA and the stage monitor, so volume I doubt will be an issue.

I'm impressed and very pleased with this unit. However if your in a loud band and your stage volume is high this may not be for you. All in all for me, this is amazing...

Comments about HK AUDIO Lucas Nano 300 Portable Sound System:

I am a solo guitarist that plays smooth jazz and easy listening music. I use the pa to play tracks and announce tunes etc. I have had this unit about ten days and gigged with it at a wine bar, restaurant and an outdoor farmers market. overall I am pleased with its performance, however I experienced a little difficulty overcoming a thin hollow sound of my voice. A little tweaking of volume and tone control and speaking into the mic at a different angle improved the sound.
I did not expect the Lucas to provide an acceptable jazz tone from my guitar ,therefore I use a separate amp. check me out at:
