Requires standard XLR mic cable (included) and lo-to-high impedance transformer with 1/4" plug (product# 427600 or 270570) to plug directly into your amp.

Love my Blues Blaster... now.

My kids bought me this mic several years ago when I started playing with a band. This mic has held up remarkably well. The chasis copied from the ol Astatic is solid and durable. The original element was not the greatest to be sure and I wasn't getting all the tone I wanted with my tube amp...but it was a gift, so I sent it out to a reputable guy and had it modified. Now it sounds great!! (put in a vintage Sure element). Love the size (fits easily into my cupped hands), volume control (for dialing into that sweet spot). The xlr cable plug in feature? When I need my hands free the xlr cable end serves as a great handle to slip into an empty mic clip on a stand. I am a weekend warrior so I use this mic a lot. Am considering getting the other Astatic copy by hohner just for the element. I've read a lot of the other reviews and will say only this. You get used to what you use and make it work. I rated it an 8 for overall quality and value. The element was an issue but that was easily remdied by Dave's Green Bullet and the rest, as they say, is history.

My buddy Jim owns a Blues Blaster, and I own a Green Bullet. We have sat many times in the same room and tried every combination of mic, amp, harp and player, and we both come to the same conclusion: the Blues Blaster just doesn't have the "punch" and "crunch" of the Green Bullet. Also, the raised ridges on the front of the Blues Blaster are always clicking and scratching against the front of the harp when you play, and you still have to go out and buy a cable on top of the cost of the mic, unlike with the Green Bullet. Also, the Green Bullet can be screwed onto a mic stand for hands-free operation, allowing you to play guitar or sing into a vocal mic when it's not in use. As I recall, the Blues Blaster had to be held all the time, or put down to roll around on the floor. Jim fought it for years, but he finally gave in, benched the Blaster, and bought a Bullet, and now everybody's happy. Make up for it by buying cheaper harps if you have to, but plunk down the extra change and get a Bullet.

Have tried a variety of mics, amps, harps, and effects and keep coming back to the same setup; the Hohner 1490, Fender Blues Jr (most time direct into system), Lee Oskar, and a Rolland micro cube for delay (wish I could find a pedal that gave me the same clean/warm tone). I've had this mic for about 10 years and the paint is mostly pealed off, but I like the sound. It's not as dirty as some of the harp mics, but I play a wide range of styles and don't want that tone limitation.

the mic looks very nice but it sound like a regular vocal mic the paint chips pretty easy it sound so tinny the spot where you hook the cord is just gulded in its not srewed very very cheat crystal element so it cant withstand alot of heat or cold or moisture so have fun

I couldn't get any sound out of this mike until I ran it through a pre-amp. Now I run it through a Digitech Screamin' Blues pedal and turn up the reverb a bit, and it sounds fine. It seems to be durable. There are better mikes out there, but this is the one I have, so I've got to work with it.

My wife bought me this mic for my birthday last year. She picked it because she thought it was the "prettiest" one :) Not to mention the fact that she knows she can trust the Hohner name. She also plays a Hohner melodica as one of her many auxiliary instruments. I've always used my vocal mic (props to the unconquerable SM58) for my harp solos, but I was interested in trying something custom made for the harps. I'm a Hohner Special 20's player through and through, and this mic sounds AWESOME with them. It gives a BIG, FAT sound when it's clean, and it handles FX and distortion surprisingly well, too. My Hohner Chrometta 14 sounds great through it, too.Go ahead and buy it. I'm glad I did.

I have been playing electric blues harp for 8 years or so, and own several bullet and shure 545 style mics. The over all tone produced by 1490 Blues Blaster exceeded my expectations as I have read mixed reviews,once I plugged this mic into any one of my 2 tube amps I had an instant smile on my face as the classic chicago tonal qualities came across clearly. Even better than my more exspensive green bullets or Shures. For the money you cant go wrong. So far there has been no loose knobs or XLR connectivity issues. The center grill bar came a little rough, perhaps a manufactoring finishing error but I fixed it with a jewelers file. Over all Im very pleased.

I've used mostly Hohner products in the last five years since I picked up ther harp, most of which has been Marine Bands and Blues Harps. But I just got this Blues Blaster mic today...and wow! I just plugged it into my old Gretsch tube amp, I don't think I've heard anything as cool as this! Takes me back to Little Walter! I'd definitely recommend it.

it worked when i got it.i also own about 7 other vintage bullets,some over 50 years old.i used the blues blaster for one 2 hour session,put it away for about 2 months,in a padded box ,which never moved,and it never worked again. it didnt sound bad,i liked the volume knob.the short life span didnt make me very happy.my advice... get a shure 545sd and a 5w tube amp,and a tube mic pre-amp.peace.

I bought mine at an instrument shop here in town, and got ripped off. I payed almost twice what musicians friend charges, just because I didn't look online first!!! I think overall this mic is great for the musicians friend price. It is a good mic for the price, and it sounds great. The volume knob comes loose easy, but overall I think it is good quality, and its got a good look.

I bought mine at a pawn shop, used 5 years ago. Unlike some of the problems outlined in other reviews such as cable connector and volume knob comming loose. I have had no problems, perhaps quality control is lacking in the newer mikes. I get less bass response than from a standard vocal mike. The gritty Chicago sound is there. The volume knob is the main reason i prefer this mike on stage and the ability to hold the Harp Cupped tight for compression. For the money i think it's a verry good Harp microphone!
