I was torn between this and the Apogee Jam. I went with this because it comes with a lightning cable. My buddy has the Apogee Jam and they sound about the same to me. They have similar ever so slight latency on iOS (tolerable for me) but they're pretty solid when connected to a Mac. I'm not sure if it's the processing speed of the machine, or that it's using a smaller buffer when connected to the Mac. In both cases it's usable for me (practice/casual recording) and I'm very happy with the purchase.

I've used it with Garage Band (iOS or Mac) and Logic Pro X (Mac). I also used it with Ampkit, Amplink for iOS. All work great.

After about 6 uses over the course of 15 months the unit quit. On-line support (email only) told me that it was probably the cable and that I should BUY a new one for 30.00 since it was out of warranty (1 year). The person that I corresponded with NEVER mentioned a firmware update, but, one was found at their site and downloading the 1.5 firmware upgrade (released today, 08/25/16, so obviously they know they have a problem) brought it back to life. Not a lot of sound options available other than for individual purchase inside the app (2.99 - 9.99 or so for each amp or stomp box model). Some latency can be heard as well. Probably an "ok" tool for silent practice, but not something that I would ever rely on for anything other than amusement.

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig HD Studio-Quality Guitar Interface for iOS/MAC:

After trying the original iRig and having problems, I returned it and ordered the iRig HD. Although it was quite a bit more (even with discount) I think it was still a worthwhile purchase. I use it on my iPad 3 with the Amplitube Free apps. Several additional amps & pedals are "unlocked" with the iRig HD (even in the free app) which increased the value of the purchase. The instructions for hooking up the device were somewhat unclear, but once the right order of steps were worked out, it works great. I plug it into the 30 pin adapter, and out through some closed-ear headphones -- and can practice my electric guitar in virtual silence. I also took this on a weekend trip and was able to practice in my room without needing an amp, but with all the desired sounds and effects. The iRig HD gives me clear sound and plenty of volume. So although a bit pricey, it does allow me to practice my guitar anywhere, anytime.

Comments about IK Multimedia iRig HD Studio-Quality Guitar Interface for iOS/MAC:

I'm pleased. So far so good. I've only had it for a month, so I can't speak for its durability or reliability over time. I wanted an easy connection for multiple sound inputs (keyboard, guitar, voice) to Garage Band via iPad Pro in my home studio, and I got it with this iRig HD.

Great way to plug in to iPhone or iPad. I found Garage band more useful than the software that came with it.
The device is awesome but the softwares just a teaser to sell more software amps and sounds.
Garage band had all the sounds and ample I need for free.

I bought this mainly for home recording, and for private practice when traveling. The device works great as an audio interface with both Auria and GarageBand on my iPad. GarageBand has several built in effects and amp models, and I can really get some great sounds without having to break out the pedalboard. I'd consider using it for live use, or at least rehearsals. Good value.

I like the sound quality of this HD unit. Unfortunately, they have not provided any means to use headphones with this device. The new iPhones have no headphone jack. A simple programming change in AmpliTube could enable the Bluetooth headphone option to be accessed. I have put this HD device back in the box and will most likely not use it again, until AmpliTube gets around to upgrading their app. (I'm just asking for a switch within the app, to turn Bluetooth on, or off) I've gone back to using their older iRig for guitar.
