I bought a pair of these about a year ago, right after they first came out. They replaced a pair of EON 15's (1st Generation). I play in a folky-to-classic rock trio that typically plays smaller venues, but in the summer we play some outdoor venues where good solid coverage and excellent sound are a must. The oftentimes acoustic nature of our material dictates a natural well-balanced speaker. Clarity and accuracy in the vocals are very important as we do a whole lot of harmony singing. In our setup, the speaker must also handle the output of a very punchy kick and occasionally help out the bass guitar. So far, all I can say is it sounds like us. That's high praise from a former recording engineer and continual sound fussy.

In the smaller venues, just one of these is plenty, and with only one, we can kind of point it a bit away from whoever is writing the check. They'll still get good, balanced sound and we can play a little bit louder ;-) outdoors we have yet to even clome close to pushing the EONs to their limit. That was a big problem that we encountered with the original EON Generation 1's. Problem solved.

The light weight, ample power and flexible connections with global tone control are all pluses. We drive them with a Mackie mixer, so we don't use the multiple inputs. But other than taming some weird room acoustics, we've never had to touch the EQ on the speaker or the mixer and get just clean honest sound that can carry a kick with a surprising amount of punch. And my 5'4" wife can easily pick both of them up and tote them if she has to.

If you need gobs of bowel-loosening bass at very high volumes, you might want to add subs, but for the huge majority of uses, you can skip all that.

Light wieght, gobs of power, rugged construction (I've used these steadily for a year and they still look and work great), and a very reasonable price compared to whet you'd need to go threough with power amps, crossovers, etc. etc. This is a no-brainer.

The only drawback I can see is that, if you have a weak link someplace else in your system, the EON will show it up for you.

Additional anecdote: We recently did a TV show taping where we had to send a single feed to the audio board, with no foldback or way to hear what we sounded like in the control room. I set up our usual rig, but added my miked guitar amp and the bass to the mix. Then I used one EON off to the side, out of the shot, to set up the mix going to the house, using the loop-though connection on the EON. It produced a very trustworthy mix that wound up sounding great in the control room and subsequently on TV. Any studio engineer will tell you that the most important quality of a studio monitor speaker is that it be able to create mixes that translate well to other systems and situations. Even though the EON is not really meant for that, it did the job in this situation and saved what could have been a mess otherwise.

I'm disappointed. I ordered the JBL Eon 515XT because I have other JBL cabinets (passive) and love them.

Took it to a gig Saturday to use as a monitor for my drummer. Plugged it in - pop! pop! pop! Then no power.

I guess mine might be a rare mfg defect, but I'm disappointed. Musician's Friend, as always, promptly and cheerfully refunded and I ordered a replacement (different brand).

It's a joy working with Musician's Friend. First class customer service.

The Little Speaker that REALLY could...

    By Lman McPhoomph

    from Northern New England

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

I have a bunch of buddy-musicians. Many are soloists, like me. Some are in bands. I have friends who love QSC active enclosures. Others love the L1 compact. One buddy is sold on Behringer stuff, because it's so inexpensive. Bottom line: everyone's needs vary somewhat. But for my preferred combination of venue type, audience, input requirements, repertoire, SPL/headroom, and budget, this box absolutely meets all my requirements," hands down.
Three input channels - two 1/4"" Bal/UnBal"," and one Neutrix XLR & 1/4"" combo jack - each channel with its own volume. Global Treble/Bass controls. Plus XLR out for Link or Mix. 625 Watts"," total between 15"" Woofer and Hi-freq diaphragm. 32lbs. Carrying handles at sides and top. Spkr stand port at bottom (standard size).
Typical JBL - Rugged and does everything it promises. Fit and finish is excellent", but I recommend a protective bag or cover to keep it from being gouged/scratched from load-ins/load-outs.

Soundwise? Very evenly-tuned, and this was critical for me, as I'm using a single 515XT for solo guitar/vocals (classic rock and folk, plus originals), with backing tracks on roughly 2/3 of my repertoire, covering a broad spectrum of sounds (CSN to Clapton to Taylor to Foo Fighters to Steely Dan to John Mayer). So, I needed something very clean that could cover 50 seat to 200 seat venues, and do it all very well. The new EON does it with performance envelope to spare
I also didn't want to spend the money for a Bose L1 (and the L1 compact didn't have the power/headroom I sometimes need). I researched just about everything out there. Price for dollar spent, this box is easily the best deal going.

Just what I was looking for...

    By David Roberts

    from Bensalem, PA

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

After a 4th floor walk-up gig carrying my older 47 lb. EONs, 4 passive JBL floor monitors and heavy Mackie amp, it was time to go lighter without sacrificing sound quality. Because of their light weight and good sound, these are the first PA speakers I ve owned that I ve hooked up in my basement to listen through between gigs. I use them in conjunction with a dbx DriveRack PX which smoothes the sound in that particular room, I then role off the highs somewhat (16K). I can listen to rock or classical through these and they sound like really good stereo speakers that can play REALLY LOUD. This is a high compliment coming from a recovering audiophile.
    8-)
I don t need the built-in mixer I use a 16 channel Yamaha but now that I have it, it gives me options for simple acoustic gigs that I didn t have before. I like that.
My 4 year old EONs just work dependable. These appear to be made at least as well if not better.I was willing to pay for lighter weight, higher max SPL, and good sound. Good value.

    FINALLY!!!!! A Great PA!

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

I am a vocalist with a WIDE range. I need LOUD speakers with NO feedback. I have played on countless different PA systems....... never really happy, until I got this Puppy! All I gotta say is, you can't go wrong here! Excellent crisp highs, plenty of solid lows.....the first time I used it, plugged up my SM58, turned the volume to level 4, belted out some vocals, and had to turn it down! It sounded great! I then plugged in my Sennheiser e935 Mic, and was simply blown away by the clarity. That's just the beggining! You can plug 3 inputs to this speaker, allowing for multiple uses and setups. The BEST benefit is the 625 Watt built in power amp. Yea! 625 watts for ONE speaker! If you are sick of weak sound systems, or tired of messing up your vocals by trying to sing more loudly, GET THESE SPEAKERS! Great PA, lightweight, doubles as a personal monitor, even sits on the floor at an angle or on a PA stand! BRAVO JBL!!!!!! I love you guys!

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

Use these for smaller rooms that we might play in (100-150 cap), not good for larger rooms. They have a lot more low end than the old powered Mackie's that we were using and paired with a nice sub and it works just fine for our 4 piece band. We're able to mic up the kick drum, run the bass direct and there are no concerns with sound quality or overwhelming the system.

One concern which was quickly remedied was that one of the speakers was not functioning when it arrived. MF sent a new one out and returning the defective one was very easy.

    Little Big Man

    from Northern New England

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

Size, Weight, Price, Quality of Sound, Road worthiness. These 5 metrics are what most of us pros use in when deciding if we're going to commit hard-earned dollars for a new piece of PA gear. I've heard most, if not all, of the current products available for portable sound reinforcement. I'm completely sold on the EON 515xt. And averaging 6-8 gigs per month, I can't afford to be fooling around with any equipment that doesn't meet all of the requirments. I thought long and hard before committing to the XT. Very glad I did. I'm delighted with it.
With the advent of an 'aging rockers' segment of the Boomers demographic (I'm 60), a minor cunundrum has evolved, over time. Those of us who have been playing since Moses 'walked like an Egyptian' have a comparatively high set standards with regard to 'how good is good' when it comes to our PAs, and the sound they provide. On the other hand, none of us want to have to load in / load out one more lb. than we absolutely have to, in order to get that sound when we perform.

Sound reinforcement designers aren't dummies (mostly). Bose developed the L1 line specifically to address the need for 'less is more' - great sound, with small footprint.

Now JBL offers this amazing 32lb active (625 watt) enclosure, Crown-powered, with 3 input channels, each with its own volume. The unit can be stand-mounted, set on a chair or stool, or laid on the floor as a monitor. Master Low and High freq eq knobs provide some control over tone. The amp and woofer/high-freq drivers are well matched, and capable of pretty high sound pressure levels (132 db at 1 meter).
Appears to be bullet-proof. I've owned several JBL enclosures over the years - never had a problem. Already played my first gigs, and this unit sounds fantastic.
Can't imagine a better value exists out there, at the moment. Even the L1 compact costs more, without anywhere NEAR the power of this unit.

I used my JBL Eon 15 G2's for 12+ years with absolute satisfaction. So when I saw the JBL 515XT's on sale, I decided to grab a couple. So far, they are picking up where the G2's left off...except they are about 14 lbs. lighter! Also, the 515XT's control panel is at the bottom of the unit, instead of at the top...which is a great feature for short guys like me. I'm not convinced they are more powerful than the G2's though. But, for solo entertainment, they are plenty loud and should cover all that I require. As an aside, my Fender Blues Junior sounds awesome mic'd through these speakers. Lovin' it!

it is a ok speaker but there are better speakers with 1000 watts out there like the jbl's prx 615 prx 612 and the qsc k12
the the newest eon 515xt series in my opinion are the best but you are basically paying for the light weight design and technology. They do not hit with enough bass so you would definitely need bottoms jbl need to make a newer eon 518xt to go with these nice looking speakers. it is a huge improvement over its predecessor.
nice design love the all black color and aesthetically pleasings strong build
you are paying for light wieght design and technology and the name brand priced high

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

This my first experiance with JBL speakers. I have only had these a couple of days but I am totally impressed, they are stupid loud ! They blow away my previous srm450's by a mile ! The Bass is superb, I acually am still struggling to find the best place to cross these over with my 18 inch subs, these have an incredible low end punch you can feel. The highs are pristene..I am running these with a Driverack PX, And its a combo that works together fantastic ! You would have to spend alot of money for a crown amp with 625 watts at 8 ohms each side and here you get bothe the speaker and the amp for 699?? its a no brainer..I am one star short on value cause I just cant see plastic being worth all that much however, these are very well built ! Now for the best part, I can pick one of these up easily with two fingers! I am amazed at how light they are ! Im loving it! Thes speakers totally rock, they sound clean at very high levels and I am temted to use just these with my band now and leave the 18 inch subs at home ! Thats the kind of power these puppies put out! Im very happy, just get these...JBL has done it right now, these are state of the art boxes! I also ordered covers for mine to help with scratches etc, its wise to take care of equipment that costs this much and sounds this good! Love it! AWESOME!

Purchased a pair of these about 3 months ago and have used them on several gigs paired with PRX618 subs.Wow they sound great with crisp clean mids & highs and more than enough bass to use them without subs in small or medium size venues. But paired with the PRX618 subs now your talkin, a real room shaker. In closing I would strongly recommend that anyone serious about there sound give these a test drive before making any other purchase because they have " GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK!..

I bought a [pair of these a few weeks ago and used them last week on a DJ gig. Speakers were very easy to set up and sounded great. About two hours into the gig, one of the speakers started popping very loudly. I disconnected the input signal, but the speaker began to hum loudly on it's own. Luckily I ALWAYS take backups along. I contacted Musician's friend about returning the faulty speaker and I was immediately given a return authorization for it. In fact, they shipped me a new speaker before I even returned the malfunctioning one. I received the new speaker within a few days and ,so far, no more problems. I could not be happier with their service. In fact, I just purchased a new EON 18s subwoofer to go with the EonXT 15's. Musicians Friend is a pleasure to do business with.

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

Well, it sounded like a good deal to me as an EON G2 15 user …keyboard stage monitor / amp. The 515XT has a higher power rating (625w) and is 14 pounds lighter than the G2.

Still the G2 sounds louder to me, and the XT does not have the vertical tilt back feature as the G2.

I used the 515XT on three shows. On the third show, it died on me. Powered up but no sound, leaving me high and dry during a gig. Now i have to deal with sending it back to JBL to be fixed and being without it for months.

Thank goodness I still have two EON G2s…they're a great keyboard stage speaker with plenty of headroom. And at about 8 years old , have long outlasted the new 515XT.

Comments about JBL EON 515XT 15" Powered PA Speaker:

This unit was shipped very quickly. It would also shut off after about 30 seconds and since I know pro audio and things like "headroom" the speaker was found defective. The folks at Musicians Friend were incredible and the EON was back to them and a new EV (which I should have bought to begin with) was at my door in just a few days.
