own several sets of light weight powered and unpowered speakers. I purchased these on close out. These JBLs have a pretty balanced sound quality compared to some of my other units. They are extended in terms of frequency and power bandwidth and deliver good volume with punchy dynamics. JBL has wisely not dialed in a lot of gain making them harder to overdrive. If you leverage a mixer you will get your extra gain there. If you plug mics or aux devices straight in, you may need to turn the speaker's gain controls way up to create the volume you desire. I think this is a good design approach. Also note that the built in class D amp delivers 220 watts continuous RMS power to the woofer and 60 watts continous RMS to the hi frequency horn. On the newer replacement model, peak power is quoted, not continuous RMS power, yielding a much higher advertised wattage rating. This mean the actual sound pressure of this unit of 127db is pretty close to the newer models output. If you don't need the newer model's Bluetooth feature set, the JBL EON315 is a great buy.

Yes these do get loud, I will give them that. but in my pro opinion the sound is missing a lot of midrange and annoyingly, fatiguing and piercingly bright at 12k and above. It sounds as if jbl used a commercial fire alarm horn for a tweeter.
For music in loud applications like Djing in clubs is where this fatiguing shrillness is most noticeable. They can sound semi decent if you run them through a graphic equalizer.
The Behringer B215 is a much better sounding and equally capable speaker which costs less too, I would suggest you skip these despite the JBL name if you are looking for a full spectrum sound.

Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

I bought a pair of these and they worked ok for 4 months, then the tweeter stopped working. I called JBL "customer service" and was put on hold for ever. then talked to a rep who sent me to a local rep who looked at then and straight up said JBL will not warrentee them. Then I started leaving messages for warranty support daily for A week no return answer yet. That's where I am now. This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a negative review of any product. I will stay away from JBL in the future, and would recommend others do the same.

I bought a pair of these and they worked ok for 3 weeks, then the tweeter stopped working. I called JBL "customer service" and was put through to a voicemail box. Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

Well - let me just warn all the people out there that want to buy these just because they are JBLs. Youre going to be very dissapointed. These things clip like no other and honestly wont get much louder than your average Hi-Fi speaker. Do yourself a favor and skip these unless youre just looking for replacement doorstops. The EON 515 are a different story but these are horribly underpowered.

JBL EON315

Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

I have a mobile DJ company and I've been hauling around some Peavey SP-2Gs and a power amp for years. I finally decided to look into the JBL EON because of the weight of them. I bought a pair of JBL EON 315 and I think they sound awesome! A week later I bought the JBL EON 518 Sub just for a little more low end. I now feel that I have the ultimate PA set up. If your looking for sound quality in a light weight package... This speaker is for you!!!

Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

After using these for quite some time I have to admit JBL really has the gold medal with this one. The build quality is superb and very resistant to wear and tear, the bass response is superb, the weight is absolutely amazing, and most of all the price is right. Given the 15" woofer the low end is really noticable at lower SPLs. At higher SPLs they can be a bit harsh but overall this is as good as it will get for the price. They have been durable and problem free - even given how much I push them at events. It dosent suprise me that JBL invented the active speaker in 1995 and this 3rd Generation EON lives up to its pedigree.

Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

Excitedly purchased 2 of these on sale. Out of the box, 1 speaker would not turn on. Musician's Friend acted fast to get me a new replacement shipped. Once it arrived - I hooked the pair up in the practice studio to test them out. Seemed fine at first, but then I noticed that one speaker was considerable lower volume than the other. I compensated with the controls on the mixer. They remained unused til about a week later when we set up for a small show.
At the gig, I noticed that one of the speakers would not power up. Very frustrated - I crossed my fingers that we could get by with just 1 main and sub. Before we even started to play, the other no longer worked.
So - all three speakers failed before ever having considerable sound running thru them.

Comments about JBL EON315 15" 280-Watt Powered PA Speaker:

I've been playing in bands for over 40 years, and the huge and heavy keyboard amp I'd been dragging to jobs had just become too much to deal with. I usually just bring a Nord C1 or Electro 3 and wanted an amp just as easy to move as those but able to put out volume enough to keep up with (or ahead of) a couple of guitar players with big scarey vintage tube amps. Anyways, this EON 315 is perfect for what I need. It can be painfully loud and perfectly clean sounding! It has limited features - one input, one volume, a 3 position EQ control, and a mic/line switch - but I just plug straight in and use the EQ controls on the instrument. If I want distortion, I use the overdrive on the instument. It sounds great with the Leslie sim for organ and the Wurlitzer and Rhodes sounds are perfect through it. I'm sure it would great with strings and acoustic piano and that stuff, but I don't use those sounds when I play out. It weighs 34 pounds and is built to be easily carried. I love it! If I ever do use more than one instrument, a small mixer will be a perfect for that.

I bought two for my band on the SDOTD, and then ended up buying another two the second time they came up. Mainly used for monitors, they're perfect for for all of our vocals and guitars. We set them as cut on the eq and we keep our bass guitar through the amp. Also used them for our mains for an outdoor marathon and everything came through perfectly. They don't have much punch for the kick and bass guitar but they're not sub woofers. Perfect for what we use them for.

I bought a couple of these (Stupid Deal of the Day) for use in my practice room and they have worked out very well. Being light, I can mount them up high which reduces the mic feedback I was getting and they have the power to push the vocals past the drums. They do hiss a little with no signal but we never play quiet enough for that to be an issue. Great speakers for the price.
