          Power really should be turned on at the front.
          Trim and volume only need to be set when placed or the room is altered so that's not a problem.
          I run mine at 1/2 volume. It's plenty for an accurate mix and transients are easily handled.
          Features are pretty simple: Low frequency trim switch allows for -3 dB, 0dB or +2 dB at 120 Hz;
          high frequency trim can be set at - 2.5 dB, 0 dB or + 2.5 dB at 7 kHz. These controls are adequate because the first thing anyone with monitors needs to do is use/prepare an adequate room and perhaps get monitor stands. There's a volume control knob and power on/off switch (at the back, unfortunately, which explains the 8/10 for features).
          Inputs are XLR, balanced or unbalanced 1/4" or RCA.
          You simply can't buy a better built or better sounding 5" monitor at this price. No cabinet buzz at all.
          I bought these as a quick replacement for Adam A7s which blew. After perhaps five hiours of running these in, which is definitely not enough, they are not quite as silky in the high ranges as the Adams, but at 1/4 the price who's complaining? They will improve anyway over a hundred more hours of use. Spatial representation is spot on, vocals absolutely natural, bass extends all the way to 50 Hz. As long as these are well positioned they give a true and clean bass representation.
          I am not complaining. The only comparable value for quality are the Behringer Truth B3030A 6" monitors, also wel worth buying.

          The sound quality is good, though, to my ears, not quite as good as Wharfedale Diamonds 9.2 which are basically not available. The actual sound is clean and reasonable flat. It has more to do with stereo imaging and missing details. The sound sounds like it's coming out of the speakers rather than between them, in terms of creating a soundstage. The volume control does not work for me. It works by preset clicks. First click. No sound. Second click. Far too loud when using the RCA connectors. If you are inputting something with its own volume control like a computer or MP3 player this would not be an issue, but I'm running a CD player through it. Trying to dial it back from 2 is barely possible and fiddly and seemed to affect sound quality. When connecting it with balanced XLR cables, the speakers were rather on the quiet side.

            I got a great deal on these and am very happy with the purchase. They appear to be very flat which is good for mixing. May want to add the sub st sume point. You can't go wrong with JBL!

              Bought a pair of these at a great price thanks to Musicians Friend. Sound is very clear on a home DAW system. Plenty of low end by themselves but may save up for the sub to go with them for more punch. Would highly recommend.

                These speakers give me an accurate reference on my edit and give me a great preview of how the mix sounds on the FOH mains.

                      I had been using a pair of Mackie MR5's, which I liked at first but then increasingly noticed that when I played the mixes from them elsewhere (in the car, on a good quality home stereo system, on the computer), the mixes needed more tweaking -- specifically, they were brittle on the high end.

                      Problem solved with these JBLs. The sound is extremely accurate, and the few mixes I've done with them in the last week have translated exactly as they should to other sound systems. If you want a great, budget monitor, these compact JBLs are an excellent choice.

                      Ive used these monitors along with its bigger brother with the big 8" driver. don bee alarmed by the size as they pack a powerful punch and go all the way down to 50Khz. The one thing i found is that they have allot of low end to them and make mixes sound muddy at this price range your better off getting yourself a pair of Adam A3X. thats just me personally but hey find the monitor that works for you
