OVERVIEW

8 in. near-field studio monitor, ideal for a wide range of mixing environments.

The LSR308, part of JBL's 3 Series studio monitors, is a 8 in. powered studio monitor delivering professional performance at an affordable price points. 3 Series Powered Studio Monitors are first to incorporate JBL's exciting new technology, the Image Control Waveguide. In conjunction with 3 Series high-performance transducers and system components, the Image Control Waveguide lets you hear detail and depth in recordings as you've never heard before.

The LSR308's 8 in. long-throw woofer and its 1 in. damped woven composite Neodymium tweeter are designed from the ground up to reproduce the powerful transients and micro dynamics of your mix. These drivers deliver impressive deep bass and smooth high frequency response beyond the range of human hearing. JBL's Patented Slip Stream low frequency port design works in concert with the woofer to produce deep bass response at all playback levels. The double-flared shape of the port is precisely engineered for greater low-frequency extension and reduced turbulence.

Big Power, Big Sound
3 Series efficient Class D Amplifiers provide abundant power to deliver the output and dynamic headroom needed for the most demanding production styles

Professional Balanced Inputs
Balanced XLR and 1/4 in. (6 mm) TRS inputs give you the options you need to connect your 3 Series to any signal source while maintaining professional signal quality.

Selectable Input Sensitivity
The -10 dB/+4 dB sensitivity switch ensures compatibility with a broad range of signal sources, allowing you to connect the 3 Series to high output professional gear without any danger of input overload.

LF Trim and HF Trim "TRIM" switches for both the Low and High Frequencies give you excellent control over the 3 Series sound in "your" room. Use these to fine-tune the amount of bass and treble you hear to compensate for room acoustics, program material and your personal taste.

JBL Professional Reliability
Prior to becoming a production-ready design, each 3 Series model is subjected to JBL's tough 100-hour power test, in which the speaker is required to play continually at full output for 100 hours without failure. This demanding test ensures your 3 Series speakers will deliver years of reliable performance.

JBL LSR Design - Your Music Needs a Point of Reference
While most manufacturers take only a single on axis measurement of the speaker's performance, this doesn't tell how it will sound in your room. JBL's LSR Linear Spatial Reference design criteria requires seventy-two measurements yielding more than 1,200 times more data, enabling JBL to engineer a speaker that "sounds right" in any working space. With LSR design, 3 Series Studio Monitors deliver superior accuracy regardless of the size and shape of your room, so your mixes "hit their mark" when heard on any playback system.

Just got these for my birthday. An AWESOME set of monitors. They have a super clear sound. When I got mine set up I ran a test oscillator through it to get a good idea of the frequency response and they did really well. There was no drop off in volume till about 130-140hz. Then it rolls off a little sharper around 50hz. But you can hear it all the way down to 30hz!

I mostly use them for producing dance music so having a good bass response is important. These monitors do that perfectly! They're my first set of professional monitors and I think I'll have em for a long time!

While these are honest sounding speakers and deliver a flat response, and they were recommended, there is an annoying hiss this comes from the tweeter. if you are within 3 feet of the them and have the master volume at half mast or higher is very noticeable and I my opinion "undesirable" I have an 150 watt stereo amp that makes less noise when cranked up. I called JBL. They advised they were getting allot of complaints about the hiss "but" they felt hissing sound for the entry level speakers was Acceptable,,,,Waa? but it is not to me. I have a pair of Sony MB150hs hooked up to a class D Pyle car amp for master comp and I can turn the volume almost all the way an not hear almost no hiss. the selector switch for - 2 db HF is no help. In a mastering suite these would be quite unexceptionable as the hiss adds the the wear on your ears during long periods of mixing, because when the music stops the hiss is still there and does not decrease when the control volume on the mixer is turned down to 0. If you don't mind a hiss from the moment you turn these on till you shut them down these are the speakers for you. "If not" I would look elsewhere as I am returning these for 2 reasons, 1 JBLs attitude and 2 the Hiss. I am a lead audio tech and recording engineer. I mix albums and large live events with up to 25.000.00 watts of mostly JBL sound enforcement. This will influence my decision on what Sound reinforcement to my the next time I am asked to weigh in on what kind of speakers to buy. Shame on you JBL for giving me the brush off when I called they may not be allot for you but in a small mastering suite it should be more enough for you to make them sound good and with a constant hiss noise louder than most guitar amps.

Comments about JBL LSR308 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

The speakers sound clean. I hear things that I couldn't with my smaller Samson Medio 4a speakers. They don't distort a high volumes and they look nice. I auditioned them before I bought them and they sounded good, better than the Yamaha HS series.....which were very tame and had very little base. The JBLs have everything. The only con is that each speaker requires a power cord and with my setup, i need a long surge protector. They are a little on the big size, they won't exactly blend anywhere, they will be noticed. Because they were bigger, I had to buy stands with a bigger platform. As long as someone is ok with their size, you will absolutely love them.

Comments about JBL LSR308 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

My friend runs a large studio with a Genelec system in a treated control room. After auditioning songs through his system I couldn't go back to my passive hi-fi setup (foster fe-167e paired with a yamaha receiver), so I started researching bi-amped monitors. After auditioning nearly a dozen pair of monitors in my price range, I heard these and immediately knew they were the ones. I couldn't stop listening to them. They were easily the closest to reproducing the audio as engineered through a system costing 10x the price. More so than the KRK, M-Audio, Tannoy, Mackie, etc. I originally though I was going to get the Yamaha HS8, but didn't hear as much nuance in their reproduction, which was really disappointing, they sounded less 3D than the JBLs.

Great bottom-end but not boomy.!! For the money you will not be disappointed.!! You can also adjust the woofer and horn levels to fit your rooms acoustics. Nice feature.!! I am very happy with the quality of these monitors. Please check them out!!

Comments about JBL LSR308 8" Powered Studio Monitor:

Bought these for my home studio and were blown away by the clarity of the sound. I've spent a fair amount of time recording in commercial and home studios, and the quality of these monitors are right up there with the monitors I've used in commercial setups.

The range is great, lows/mids/highs all sound very distinct and I've yet to notice any 'muddled' sounds when mixing.

Just for kicks I hooked them up to my record player, put on the Dark Side of the Moon, and it honestly sounded like a live performance. Crazy beans indeed.

They were a bit larger than I had originally anticipated, so keep that in mind if you have limited space in your setup.

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.
