OVERVIEW

Perfect addition to your LSR active system.

Designed as an adjunct to JBL's LSR series, this active studio subwoofer adds the extra low-end thump that is so critical to a lot of modern music production. Low end is essential to EDM, but low-end contour and definition is likewise essential. The LSR310S subwoofer incorporates JBL's patented Slip Stream Port working in concert with a custom 10" down-firing driver and a 200 Watt amplifier to add deep, powerful bass to any studio monitor system. A JBL first, the XLF Extended Low Frequency setting lets you hear your tracks with the augmented bass tuning used in today's dance clubs.

The LSR310S striking appearance is highlighted by a distinctive glossy black flange of the front-mounted Slip Stream Port. The handsome compact black enclosure is designed to fit neatly into small recording and post production studio environments.

Comments about JBL LSR310S 10-inch Powered Studio Subwoofer:

I am music engineer (hip-hop/rap/r&b), and I do a lot of my mixing work at my home studio where my ears are most comfortable. I use Yamahas HS8 primarily for my mid and high range, and I was using a Yamaha sub HS10 with my setup (trying to keep same brand). Recently, I just got fed up with the Yamaha sub's inability to reach the deep low end (below 80 Hz), it would almost flutter in regions below that. So I went out and got the JBL, and WOW, what a difference. No flutter, nice, clean deep bass. It produces the kind of bass you will feel as well as hear..Its well worth the money, especially if you work in home studios or smaller "professional" studios. I haven't worked with the KRK sub at all, but this thing dances circles around the Yamaha sub in EVERY regard.

Comments about JBL LSR310S 10-inch Powered Studio Subwoofer:

I have the JBL LSR305s, and while they are a good value for the money, the LSR310S subwoofer is not a good match. I purchased this for my home recording studio, but the sub is very underpowered in relation to the LSR305s. I bought it when it went on sale at a 25% discount, and I can understand why JBL was trying to clear them out! They're so underpowered that at first I could hear almost NOTHING at the 80Hz setting and had to use the extended low frequency to get any audible sound. I actually had to get on the floor and put my head in front of the sub to hear it! I am using Mogami Gold XLR cables and all of the connections and switch settings are correct and matched to the LSR305s in accordance with JBL's instructions. However, I was able to make the sub acceptable for small room use by substantially boosting the source volume and decreasing the volume on the very efficient LSR 305s. Therefore, my disappointment with this sub's output stands, but it is acceptable if you listen at low to moderate volume levels and use the work around that I just mentioned. This sub is also quite large and heavy, so if you intend to mount it at ear level you'll require a very sturdy stand or table. JBL was off the mark in calling this a match to the other LSR series components. The sound is good, but there's not much volume.

Comments about JBL LSR310S 10-inch Powered Studio Subwoofer:

This JBL subwoofer is the absolute perfect companion for the LSR308 studio monitors (and most likely also for their little brothers, the LSR305). I had been recording and mixing with the 308s for well over a year, and decided that I needed some extra clarification in getting the low end properly dialed. The 310 does that in spades. The sound difference in my studio space is dramatic, with an added fullness that is never overpowering - tight without mud smears, and this is set flat. You cannot go wrong for your project studio with this JBL series.

Comments about JBL LSR310S 10-inch Powered Studio Subwoofer:

Let me begin by saying that I'm not usually a person who likes down-firing subwoofers, but I'm using a pair of JBL LSR-305s in my studio, and I wanted a little more bottom end punch. I assumed correctly that this sub would be a nice complement to those. I should also say that I'm not currently recording electronica or hip hop, so I'm really just looking for a little more honest fullness on the bottom of, say, a pop, rock, folk or country mix, not something that's gonna vibrate the fillings in my teeth. This sub is doing a good job for me in that regard, and I'm pleased with it. The only problems I have are (1) I'm in a room with a carpet-covered wooden floor and crawl space underneath. (Certainly not the subs fault!) I believe this would sound cleaner in a room with a carpet covered concrete floor. (2) My room is about 17' X 30' with an 8' ceiling. I don't believe this sub would be effective in anything much larger than that. (3) Down-firing subs just sound muddier to me than front-firing subs. (Could it just be my imagination?) Overall, it's a quality speaker that's a nice addition to my studio and a great complement to the LSR-305s.
