Highly portable and huge sounding subwoofers.

The MRX518S is a compact, high-power subwoofer containing a 2044G 18" woofer in a front-loaded, vented enclosure. The speaker enclosure is designed to present a minimum frontal area. The system offers complete input connection flexibility for compatibility with a variety of cabling schemes. The input panel incorporates a pair of Neutrik Speakon NL-4 connectors wired in parallel. The MRX518S is supplied with pins +1/-1 connected to the woofer. This may be easily reconfigured to work with cabling systems intended to drive subwoofers on pins +2/-2. For "subwoofer/satellite" configurations, the MRX518S audio speaker is equipped with a top-mounted, 36mm polemount socket that can receive the optional SS3-BK pole. This can be used to mount speakers equipped with standard 35mm pole sockets and weighing up to 100 lbs. The enclosure is constructed of top-quality plywood, coated in JBL's rugged DuraFlex finish, and braced to maximize low-frequency performance. The attractive CNC-machined, 16-gauge steel grille is internally lined with an acoustically transparent screen to provide additional driver protection and give a very professional appearance.

  • 18" 2044G driver for extended low-frequency output
  • Large vent area for reduced distortion
  • Low profile and compact
  • Tough DuraFlex finish enclosure

Big Bottom End

Comments about JBL MRX518S Single 18" Subwoofer Pair:

I got the JBL subs for the great bottom end sound. They are a great deal and I have been able to realy dail in my kick drum so that even the people in the back of the bar can feel it. The only bad thing is that the cabs get beat up very easy.

Solid, Trustworthy

Comments about JBL MRX518S Single 18" Subwoofer Pair:

These work nicely solo, or in pairs, depending on the space and the volume requirements.Features include a parallel NL4 output for stacking multiple boxes, and a pole receptacle on the top for a pole-mounted main. Handy when you need them, unintrusive when you don't. This box lacks an on-board crossover, so what you feed it is what it tries to reproduce, which can get ugly if you don't know your business. The box is heavy enough not to rattle more than is tolerable, but not heavy enough to remain stationary if you don't drop them on a surface with plenty of traction for the rubber feet. On poly-coated hardwood or asphalt tile, they will tend to wander a bit. Not an issue on unpolished concrete, or rough finish (typical stage deck) floors.Good power handling, without being power hungry... these consume far less than other similarly priced boxes from Peavey, and will take more abuse than the comparable line from Yamaha. A nice match for a Crown XLS 802 in bridged mono, or a XLS 5000 in stereo mode... in either case, a crossover is a must, and light compression is an improvement. Processed with dbx 234 or 223 crossovers, and dbx 266 compressors. JBL/Crown/dbx are all Harmon Int'l products, so it's no surprise that they play well with each other. When driven hard and listened to in close quarters, the vents get noisy, but the noise is inaudible beyond ~15 feet.Great supplement to full-range small to medium scale PA, and small to medium installations in small to medium theatres.
