Amazing sound out of the size. I was so happy with it, I went and bought a set of the PRX535s to match. Very clean, loud sound.
I purchased the speakers hoping that with a combination of Crown amplification and JBL quality, they would be more than I would ever need. Not so.I've used them several times for DJ/Corporate events ranging from wedding ceremonies, receptions, college formals, etc. The sound quality is average. If you push the cabinets to the high end of their output, the audio seems to break up a bit. In addition to the audio clarity being a problem at high SPL, they horns are VERY short throw. After 50', the high end drops out dramatically. On the plus side, the bass is phenomenal for a single 15" cabinet. If you're playing smaller rooms with not a lot of high SPL requirement, these are decent cabinets. If you are playing larger rooms, these aren't the cabinets for you.
After purchasing the PRX515's, I expected to hear great things from them, but must admit, they have exceeded my expectations. Bass response was much more than anticipated (the 15" speakers absolutely help out with that end). There is a wonderful low and mid punch that adds tremendous, powerful flavor to the mix. The high end is crisp and clear, without being harsh to the ear, and the overall tone of these speakers, before even applying EQ, is tremendously warm. I threw them on top of 2 750W subs, and it transformed the room into a wonderfully clear, warm, loud , thumping mini stadium. The only negatives that I observed.....I would like to have seen a power indicator on the rear of the speaker, and would have liked to be able to select the bandwidth of the boost..... In comparison, I have always loved the JBL-eon15 g2......these are the G2's on steroids!!!! JBL really did right with these speakers.
I purchased a pair of the JBL's PRX515's. I compared these against the Mackie SR1521s and the QSC152's. The JBL's rock and have excellent frequency response. With the built in Crown D-Class amp and 500 watts of power you are definitely set. I've coupled them to a PRX518S subwoofer and the sound is awesome. You won't go wrong with this total package solution.
