OVERVIEW

Perfect small bookshelf monitors.

KRK has redesigned its wildly popular Rokit series of studio monitors, providing a broader frequency response, a new cabinet design, an adjustment in power for better balance, and several other enhancements. It features a front-firing port that provides low frequency extension without boundary coupling, an improved speaker voicing for even more accurate frequency response, a 1" silk dome tweeter, and an Aramid 5" glass composite woofer. They are lightweight, low profile and are offered at a price that makes professional-level monitoring affordable for even the most humble studios.

Other monitors have ports on the back of the cabinet. These rear-firing ports tend to create bass coupling with walls and corners amplifying low frequency information which will color your mix. The KRK Generation 3 Rokit studio monitor's design includes front-firing ports, which are just the right shape and taper to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance this approach delivers, even at high SPL's.

A great-sounding monitor doesn't stop with a great cabinet and custom drivers. KRKs true bi-amplified amplifier system provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver. While the active crossover systems provide smooth and accurate frequency response, and again, accurate diffraction control.

FEATURES
  • Extended bass response
  • Clean and accurate
  • Reduced port turbulence

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5" Generation 3:

I got a pair of these to replace my very used M-Audio monitors in my home studio. These have plent of power for near-field monitors to work well in small to average size rooms. Having the front firing ports help naturally improve low-end response. The highs and down through most of the mids do have a good flat response, however, there is an exaggerated low-mid response making it sound overly rich. That being said, having the +1,0,-1,-2dB switch for the low's helps clear that up.

Overal these are great for a project studio, or B-set monitors

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5" Generation 3:

These things sound far better in the low end than the g2's which I used to have, however, for mixing the low end is unreliable. I made it better with a trick I learned from Mike Senior to stuff the ports with rags or socks so the low frequencies aren't blurry and it really helped but the low end is still unreliable to mix with. My main issue with these is when you turn them on it takes anywhere from 5-30 seconds for them to produce volume. That's a very annoying delay. Also, rarely at times they cut out- either one or the other, sometimes both for no apparent reason... they are brand new!

Also, the more I read about these and mix on them and listen to other monitors, the more I realize these are best for DJs who aren't trying to mix an actual pro album. The low end and even mids are no flat whatsoever. Honestly, they seem hyped to me but sound incredible just to use for entertainment like movies, Youtube, and listening to music.
Soon I'll be selling these and getting Yamaha HS8's.

      Hope that helps.

Comments about KRK Rokit Powered 5" Generation 3:

We bought these reconditioned from Musicians Friend and we could not be happier. The quality is way above the meager price they ask for the divers. We use them in our studio every day. My wife and I write for film and TV and we would only replace the pair we have with a larger set of KRK's. Thanks guys for making a great product. Crisp and Deep!!

I incrementally bought speakers until I settled with these. DON'T use TS unbalanced chords from your audio interface. Use TRS or XLR. TS hums and sounds bad. I may spring for some Yamaha speakers since these are powerful but average.

Solid small monitor. Good low end. Side by side with the old version the Gen 3 clearly has been improved. Great value for the money.
