Comments about KRK RP5 White Noise Studio Monitor:
Designed for placement near wall and mixing at low to moderate volume in a minimally treated room. The compact design and color scheme fit on a desk and looks good with a Mac monitor setup. Sound is flat but lacks the low end and volume of an 8" with sub, which would need room treatment. Systems with high gain output should not follow instructions to turn up speaker gain.

Comments about KRK RP5 White Noise Studio Monitor:
I put the RP5's to the test referencing against much larger JBL studio monitors, several pro-level headphones (Sony and Senheiser), and some junky near-field TEAC's they are meant to replace.
The Good: given the 5-inch woofer, I was very surprised by the excellent, clean lows on these monitors. Compared to the reference speakers/headphones the RP5's lows and mid-range were accurate. Amplification is very clean with plenty of punch--nearly as clean as the JBL's pushed by a Crown amp, and much cleaner than the very muddy TEAC's. Also, construction is excellent--these are solid (and heavier than they look).
The Bad: high's are just not there (even with the High Level Adjustment set to the max). For example, cymbals that are easily heard in comparison speakers/headphones fall out of the mix in the RP5's. I would have never thought that the high-end would be the problem in these small monitors.
If KRK would address the issue with the tweeters, they would have a winner. As is, however, I would recommend looking at other near-field monitors.
