OVERVIEW

Great sounding and very affordable.

The Kustom KPC12P is a 100W powered speaker with a 12" Kustom-built loudspeaker and a piezo HF driver. It is tuned to deliver rich, balanced tonality while accurately reproducing a wide variety of audio content.

The Kustom KPC12P powered speaker provides balanced XLR and TRS 1/4" (balanced/unbalanced) input jacks. These may be used to connect a wide variety of line level devices such as non-powered mixers, preamps, keyboards, drum machines and other audio devices including music players such as iPods and CD players. A volume control adjusts the overall level of the powered PA speaker.

The Kustom PA speaker's TRS 1/4" line out jack may be used to daisy chain 2 or more KPC speakers for a wider dispersion of sound. For example, if a non-powered audio mixer has been connected to the KPC speaker's input, the line out of this first speaker may be connected to a second speaker's input. This is a daisy chain and it often requires shorter cable hookup lengths versus connecting the second speaker directly to the audio mixer.

Since its inception in 1966, Kustom has produced high-quality, affordable PA products, and the Kustom KPC12P PA speaker continues that tradition.

I bought these speakers, because I have used Kustom products, all through the 70s, & 90s 80s, and they always worked great.
The greatest advantage I experienced with these speakers, is that they don't have on-board EQ. This is why my Macs, and Qsc, end up feeding back! There is a double pre-amp conflict, anytime you use an EQ, after an already substantial EQ on your mixer. You have to be careful not to let the powered EQ on your Class A Powered speakers, over ride your board.
I can crank up these Kustom speakers, and set the EQ on my board, to get the sound that I like. With an additional EQ on the powered speakers, that come with their own treble, bass, and mids, are a nightmare to manage. On top of mixing the correct EQ with the board, you have to also equalize the powered speaker's EQ with what you already have going on, with your mixer. This is a double pre-amp conflict, that ends up feeding back easily.
These Kustoms are very simple! Just manage your EQ and sound on the mixer, and then set your desired volume on the Kustoms!
I have only done four gigs, with these, but I never had an iota of feedback, or even close!
I love the simplicity weight, size and volume!
If you know how to mix sound professionally, you will find these a dream to work with! Plus...... They are built like tanks!

Day I received plugged in mp3 player sounded great for about 15 minutes at half volume level. Then all of a sudden sounded like the voice coil went out and volume at half with just the sound of instruments. Changed cables and used two other player with same results. Called MF customer service send return label and they shipped out another. The next one was DOA sounded just like the problem I encountered the the first one straight out of the box.

Comments about Kustom KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker:

This is an update to my last Post about these speakers. When I last posted I had just gotten these out of the box and used them for 1 gig. Now, I have used them for 20+ gigs and I use them in my Home Studio almost Every Day!

These speakers are just great! They will get loud for a small to medium sized room, they are good for a medium sized room for weddings, vocals run very clear through them. They work best as high to mid range frequencies. The bass isn't a 'thud' or 'boom', more of a punch. I have purchased one of the Kustom 200wat subs to go with my 2 kpc12p's and that seems to be a great setup.

*NOTE* I do not dj or mc for larger venues or rooms with just 2 of these. If I do a larger room, I have to use more speakers because 2 of these simply will not put the sound into a larger room that you will need.

You will need an unpowered mixer or a line level source (such as ipod or mp3 player) to plug into these. The speakers have XLR and 1/4" line level inputs on them, but you can only use one of the inputs. They also have a 1/4" line out to daisy chain more speakers. I have found that when chaining more than 2 of these speakers together, the signal starts getting lost, forcing you to turn up the volume on the next speaker. This is not a problem for me because I run individual signals to each speaker. I use an Alesis S-8 Mixer to my speakers. It has plenty of give when it comes to outputs. I run 2 xlr's to the mains, 2 1/4" to the monitors (or speakers in the back of the room) and my control room outs go to my subs so that I can control the bass level independently through the headphone knob. I run a Numark Mixtrack pro into the RCA inputs on the mixer. Works great!

If you are a small-time DJ looking to save some money and looking for a great system to get you started, this is the one!

Comments about Kustom KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker:

Speaker seems to work fine so far and happy with the speaker for the price. Seems to be built sturdy. I'm using it to amplify a Korg SP-250 for large room performances. I bought one, but may get a second if my venues get larger. However, shipper was a thin cardboard box with no padding of any kind. On arrival, one of the corners of the speaker was cracked. Does not affect performance, but Musician Friend could have prevented this.

Comments about Kustom KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker:

Ok, so this is my 3rd review on this speaker. After 1 year of use, they are still working grod! I have had some issues recently with the volume/gain nob on one of the speakers. A little piddling and it starts working again. Because of this, I have purchased a set of behringer speakers to replace them, as I have moved to larger venues and require louder and more powerful speakers. Also, on the same speaker, the 1/4" output has become fuzzy and I stopped using it to run out to the subs.

However, I have used these speakers in 3 outdoor events recently, and they really blew me away! I used them to amplify a speaker's voice, wedding reception and an all day dj event for 500 people. Alone, these speakers did great for the first 2, I had to add subs for the 3rd gig.

I can't stress enough, if you are using these for music, ADD A SUB!!!! I use 2 of the Kustom 12" powered subs and it works nice.

I am a bar dj and I only play for crowds of 50-100 people. If you are planning on playing for more people, you will need to either get the single or double 15" versions to reach more people. I never run these speakers more than have volume on the speaker AND the line mixer.

Great buy for beginners to start with and get their feet wet, but if you plan on becoming more serious and having larger gigs, then go for bigger or more powerful speakers.

I am also not going to buy any more powered speakers for djing. Just too many wires to keep up with.

Had some shin digs spun with these and no complaints daisy chain a solid woofer with these and it's a package you can spin a small indoor gig without the woofer and may be able to pull it off since the low end can be eq'ed to sound ok but these are def mainly for highs and mids

Comments about Kustom KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I was hesitant honestly in buying these. With speakers, you usually get what you pay for and these certainly were not expensive by any means. I have been pleasantly surprised from the moment these came out of the box over a month ago. It's definitely not a high end system, but it does exceed what one would expect from this price bracket. I have a set of two 12" and did an event in a ballroom set for 400 people and was not even near the max capability of these speakers, volume wise. They're definitely loud speakers. If you need a PA system on a budget, consider grabbing two of these and mixer and you're in business.

These are awesome little powered speakers ! They are easy to hook up , have versitility , adjust for suprisingly loud and clear output and are not overly heavy or hard to carry . These are great for smaller venues or as additional speakers for larger settings . They are a great value for the price and with reasonable care will last . I plan to purchase more of them in the future !

KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker - You get what you pay for

        By Christopher Wade

        from PA

Comments about Kustom KPC12P 12" Powered PA Speaker:

I picked these up to use with my Line 6 HD500, for more volume and a stereo spread. Unfortunately, this is not an application for the Kustoms, as they're not flat response. Thery're very spiky in the high frequencies. In fact, I had to put a DOD 7-band EQ pedal (all I had around) in front of them just to tame the harsh high end.

For my application - the HD500 - I'm going to go with another Tech 21 Power Engine.

I also used these cabs as an informal PA for a party I recently had. Again, just going to the Kustoms with an iPod, it was unbearably harsh and the vocals were swamped out. The EQ in front was able to balance it so that it worked well enough for a party where music wasn't the focus.

These aren't awful, but you certainly get what you pay for. In this case, you'll have to do a lot of EQing just to get them to acceptable.
