OVERVIEW

Great sounding and very affordable.

The Kustom KPC10MP is a 50-watt powered monitor speaker with an angled wedge design, a 10' Kustom-built loudspeaker and a piezo HF driver. It is tuned to deliver rich, balanced tonality while accurately reproducing a wide variety of audio content.

The Kustom KPC10MP powered monitor speaker provides balanced XLR and TRS 1/4" (balanced/unbalanced) input jacks. These may be used to connect a wide variety of line level devices such as non-powered mixers, preamps, keyboards, drum machines, and other audio devices including music players such as iPods and CD players. A volume control adjusts the overall level of the Kustom powered speaker.

A TRS 1/4" line out jack may be used to daisy chain 2 or more KPC speakers for a wider dispersion of sound. For example, if a non-powered audio mixer has been connected to the Kustom KPC speaker's input, the line out of this first speaker may be connected to a second speaker's input. This is a daisy chain and it often requires shorter cable hookup lengths versus connecting the second speaker directly to the audio mixer.

In addition to being used as a powered floor monitor, a built-in polemount socket enables you to elevate the Kustom KPC10MP monitor for use as a powered PA speaker.

I picked up one of these Kustom powered monitors for 89 buckaroos when it went on sale. At that price, it can't be beat. It's a little under-powered, at 50 watts, but it does the job as a spot floor monitor for most small venues. I just played a gig with it and it worked well. The volume control is pretty much all or nothing - you can't really hear it until you crank the volume to about 3/4 of the way. But once you do, the sound is clear and no feedback. Wait until it goes on sale, which it eventually will. One recommendation for use: I would only put vocals through the monitor mix if you're using one of these - the 10" speaker won't handle kick drum or bass very well. Also, the supplied power cable is extremely short, but you can always buy a longer one.

I was hoping to use this portable powered speaker to augment our sound and add another mic. I hooked it up out of the box, plugged in a decent microphone, turned the volume up a bit, but could not hear any amplification. I checked my connections and the mic switch, all OK. I turned the volume to 10 and did a test count. My wife, sitting 10 feet away said she could not hear the speaker. I then cupped my hands around the mic foam and covered it with my mouth and did a test count. It was audible, but barely. Not what I was hoping for. The unit is built like a tank, compact, portable, but tiny on sound. If Kustom puts a decent class D amp in these speakers, I will buy a couple. I have a Kustom 5W Defender tube amp, pushing two 10" Eminence Legends. The sound is very loud with the volume at the 9 o'clock position. I really like my other Kustom products, but not this one. Disappointed. For reference, I am 65 and have played music for 52 years. I returned this one today.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

Please don't, as some have here, plug a microphone directly into this monitor (KPC10MP or KPM10, which are pretty much the same), and then proceed to write a negative review when it doesn't work. One person said they've been playing music for forty years or something like that. I suppose reading instructions (or even just knowing what you are buying) would help. This is a value champ monitor, extremely useful and sturdy with a balanced sound, AND built in power. It does not feature microphone preamps. Thanks, this device doesn't deserve to be misrepresented by people who just plugged in wrong. It's a good monitor, very pleased with mine! This is not a powerful DJ type speaker, but it is remarkably good with acoustic guitar, vocals and a few mixer-generated effects.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

This says 50 watts....wow, my 10 watt solid state small amp with a 6" speaker is louder than this. I used it in my home studio and it works but is not loud at all, and that is ok for my studio...but I used it at a small get together you could not hear me over anyone else...people singing and an playing guitars unplugged. This thing is an EMBARRASSMENT to say the least.
I used it with various item s and cords and boosters and it is not meant to be loud.
I will convert it to a guitar cab/monitor with a better speaker.
It should work better if I take out the guts and start from scratch.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

I thought I had already reviewed this powered monitor. Planned on using it with a mic and sometimes as a monitor. Out of the box I was very impressed with the sturdy build quality and portable size. I plugged a mic in the XLR socket and turned on the power at 0. Raising the volume knob slowly about a 1/4 turn to 9 o'clock. No sound from the mic. Turned to half volume. My wife could not hear it 10 feet away. I moved the volume to max, cupped my hand over the mic ball and spoke with my mouth covering the mic foam. My wife could barely hear it and even then it was muffled and mushy sounding. I was disappointed to say the least. I packed it back in the box and returned it. After reading all the positive reviews, I wonder if I just got a lemon? I thought it might require a preamp for the mic, but there were no instructions or info about a preamp. Still looking for a portable powered speaker to augment the sound and clarity. I have been a MF customer for a few years and have had problems with on a couple of items. I plan to continue being a regular Musicians Friend patron.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

Grandpa… your missing a couple of gain stages? Mic pre-maps in a mixer are there to bring the very low signal level of a mic up to something useable. Then you have the faders that take the signal up some more. This signal is then sent to your KPC by way of the main out or an Aux send, which now can be adjusted to something you can hear.
I replaced the drives and added a crossover. The unit is an okay monitor but I only need to hear it not really good as a main. But a nice size, takes balanced TRS inputs and you can chain them. Very handy for the price. D class amplifiers are magnitudes more expensive than this bare bones device. Cheers.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

I needed a second monitor, so I bought this while on sale. I'm very happy with it. It does a great job for an inexpensive, low powered monitor. Like any other hardware, you need to treat it right and not yank on the input cord, etc. You won't find anything comparable for anywhere near the same price. If you are fussy and/or have an unlimited expense account, buy something more expensive. This seems to be exactly the same as my Kustom PA KPM10, but with a different color name badge.

Comments about Kustom PA KPC10MP 10" Powered Monitor Speaker:

I haven't had too much chance to use the two of these I bought yet.. but they are small, fairly light, have a built in amp, multiple inputs, and get loud enough for your typical wedge type stage monitor for a live show. I bought one for the vocalist, and one to put by a drummer. They sound decent, but the high end is very bright and brittle (which may not be a bad thing for a stage monitor mostly carrying vocals which need to be heard clearly). The JBL EON 615s I bought for mains sound significantly more pleasant with smoother high end and fuller low end, but they also costed more than 5 times as much as these did. Given the insanely low price for a powered speaker.. I say these deserve 4 stars.
