Awesome Interface with very nice converters and surprisingly usable preamps!

Comments about Lexicon I-ONIX U22 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:

Overall, this is an excellent little interface, and would be great for anyone just getting into forming a project studio, and would be an upgrade for anyone coming from a usb 1 type device. It's a very nice looking unit, with good drivers, great converters (for the price) and interesting preamps that have a surprising amount of character. A great buy, especially on the used market!
On Windows Vista 32bit, the driver installation was painless, taking maybe 20 minutes from the time downloaded the drivers from Lexicon's website to the time the interface was ready to use. Latency times are quite good, and easily adjustable via the software control panel. On my 2.1 ghz 3gb ram machine, I can get up to one setting under the fastest latency with a pretty good amount of stability, though I usually back it off a bit further to allow for more virtual instruments to be used.
Build quality is quite good, especially for a desktop unit. It's made out of hard, durable feeling plastic, and has a good bit of weight to it. This, combined with the rubberpads on the bottom do a good job at keeping the unit in place when things are being plugged in and out. The converter quality on this interface is actually quite good, with a very noticable difference in clarity compared to a typical soundcard. The preamps are also very usable, though they seem to have an odd sound signature for onboard preamps. They're rather neutral as far as bass and high frequency response, but they have somewhat forward mids, with give them a bit of an aggressive sound.
I'm a bit biased here, as I got the unit for well under the list price you see everywhere, but even at $250 I think it's a quite good deal.

Hate and love it

Comments about Lexicon I-ONIX U22 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:

I bought this thing a year or so ago and immediately started having problems. The main thing was when any audio program ws running it would work great for a bit then hiss and crackle and break up. I'd have to unplug it, since theres no power switch, let it sit for a second and plug back in. Constant drop outs when recording, the list goes on. Funny story, I added a second monitor to my system 6 months ago and all of that just stopped. It had worked like a dream ever since. I have no explanation for why that is but when running properly it is great sounding interface. Simple to hookup no complicated software to mess with. I don't think i would recommend this to anyone looking for an interface but it has finally paid off for me.

WORTHLESS

Comments about Lexicon I-ONIX U22 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:

This item would be fantastic if the elicense software didn't crash and render the Cuebase software un-usable. The hardware is awesome, wish Lexicon would hook up with another softwrae to use with it's desktop units. THE Elicense software just sucks!!

Great Hardware - Poor Drivers

Comments about Lexicon I-ONIX U22 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:

The hardware seems very good. Neat design.. Mic Pre's sounded good to me, nice meters. The problem I had is with the drivers when using Windows Vista 64bit with Sonar 8.0. Maybe fine with other systems/software but for this combination I had nothing but very poor performance. I played all my projects and everything was playing with pop's and clicks and many times total audio dropout. I changed/tried all 'audio' parameters in sonar.. drivers, buffers set 'performance' to the safest settings and still had issues. Even when not using the interfact my regular sound card for windows use would pop and click while this interface was connected. I uninstalled this and hooked up my old interfact and everything was fine again. Drivers for Windows Vista 64 are not ready as of 6/9/2009.
