Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

I think one should view these monitors in light of their intended application. If your space is limited and your recording chain is short as mine, these are hard to beat. I've gone from BX5a's to Fostex PM0.4's to finally these. Why? Because anythig bigger was a waste of space, money and well, my hearing. I am yet to experience any technical issues after a year of use, and the sound is perfectly fine, in fact, I haven't noticed a significant difference between the three pars of monitors I've used sans the volume, which I hardly ever need to raise past 50% or so. And I find the headphone jack on the front useful too, which gives me everything I need right at my fingertips, no fussing with wires in the back.

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

Unfortunately, these monitors are cheap for a reason. To start out, the right speaker stopped working. Loud output or movement would make the speaker lose connection and make static.

I ended up having to take the left speaker apart myself because it was past the warranty period. The monitor was impossible to take apart, and the screws stripped the first time. Poor interior layout design. Two of the resistors on the inside had been touching each other, which was what caused the right speaker to short.

Alongside that technical hassle, these monitors get muddy and unclean around the 60 Hz - 150 Hz range. The bass in my music sounds perfectly fine through all of the speakers in my house and in my car, headphones included, except these monitors. To my understanding, I am not getting an accurate playback of my music through these speakers.

I personally would recommend saving another hundred to get a much, much nicer pair of monitors. Even though they're cheap, these do not accomplish the job.

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

Not only did these speakers not sound very good, the left speaker quit working after about 8 months use. I didn't expect much for the price, but I expected them to work for a few years. Also, no way to balance sound between speakers. Because of my set up and space requirements, I had to place one speaker farther from my ears than the other. So I had to move every time I wanted to listen to stereo balance. Anyway, it was $$$$ wasted.

The first shipment buzzed loudly and smelled like it was burning when hooked up. We immediately called MusF and the problem was resolved. The second set are working like a charm. No buzzing or burning smell. Perfect size for the use.

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

I went and bought these straight from Avid when I bought ProTools 9. I figured if they would be great to get started with. No way, even with the Bass Boost off, I get way to much low rumble noise for my liking. When I'm trying to mix a song or even listen to my favorite tunes, I'm definitely not getting an accurate representation of the mix. I have to resort to using my Beats by Dre to get a better sound and we all know headphones shouldn't be your main option for mixing/mastering.
Go for it if you're into hip-hop or bass heavy music, you'll like it just for the sound it puts out but if you're trying to mix, these are getting you nowhere.

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

Purchased 35 sets of these speakers for installation in classrooms at the school where I work. They all worked and sounded great for about a year then within a month after that almost every single set had died entirely or the left channel stopped working. Overall very unsatisfied. Poor Quality.

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

I've had these for a little over a year, when the left amp channel died - the audio was still very faint when the volume was turned up all the way. Once I searched the web for information about a potential fix, I found a huge number of similar reports. The left speaker (which contains the amp) runs very hot, and eventually something gives out and the amp dies. The manufacturer is of no help after the warranty ends. This is a product with a faulty design. Don't bother.

        Good for the price.

        By Shawn mcdonald

        from Connecticut

Comments about M-Audio AV 30 Compact Monitor Speakers:

I would recommend these for someone who is setting up a budget studio in their home. They have plenty of clear undistorted volume for most applications i can think of. They sound pretty good for the price, But are slighty lacking in features as far as input options goes. All in all id say they are a good buy at this price.
Pretty simple, Bass boost switch on the back, Volume on the front, Auxilary input via 3.5mm headphone jack on the front, so you can hook up an ipod or whatever. I do wish they came with both the RCA inputs, And an additional option for 1/4" jack inputs. It works fine with my line6 guitar port, Since it has RCA outs, But my Native Instruments Rig Kontrol 3 interface has dual 1/4" mono instrument jack outs, So You do have to buy an RCA to Phone jack adapter, Or make up a custom cable. Still works fine, Just one of those things that would have been nice to have in addition.
they are built well, Nice and sturdy construction. They look very nice, and as far as sound quality, they sound great at low-mid level volumes. I notice a bit of distortion if i really crank up the volume. Which for me is not a problem, They sit on my desk right in front of me, So there is plenty of headroom for me to hear everything i need to without any distortion. They also get pretty hot. I was worried at first about it, But i have been using them exclusively for about 8 months, and they have been left on for weeks at a time, and have had no issues due to the heat.
I think for the price, it is a decent set of monitors. There isn't a whole lot in this pricepoint for professional recording monitors. And i wouldn't nessicarily call these professional either. They are more of an entry level reference speaker for a newbie to home studios who is on a budget.
