M-Audio

Powered desktop bass reflex speakers with magnetic sheilding and premium components.

M-Audio studio speakers are music industry bestsellers–and now AV 40 powered montors bring this professional legacy to your home. Unlike plastic multimedia speakers, AV 40s use technology thats trusted by top musicians, engineers, and composers: premium woofer and tweeter components for rich lows and crystal highs; wave guides for clarity and detail; and wooden cabinets for tight, punchy sound. Theyre perfect for creating all kinds of mediaand also let you get the most out of your CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and games.

Professional components–professional results
M-Audio builds the AV 40s with the same quality materials and precision electronics as acclaimed M-Audio professional studio speakers. The audiophile-grade Class A/B amplifier architecture, ferrofluid-cooled silk cone tweeters, polypropylene-coated woofers, and dense wooden enclosures add up to big, defined sound that defies the speakers' small size.

Clear, cohesive sound
The AV 40 speakers use proprietary OptImage wave guide technology—originally developed for the professional M-Audio speaker line—to deliver superior clarity and detail. Each speaker also features a precision-engineered crossover, which ensures that the sound emanating from the low-frequency driver will blend seamlessly with the sound from the high-frequency driver—so those deep lows transition smoothly into crystal-clear highs.

Extended low end
If you crave bass, AV 40s have you covered. With wooden cabinets and bass reflex design, the AV 40s kick out serious low frequencies—perfect for producing hip-hop and electronic music, or enjoying your favorite CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and games.

Magnetically shielded for desktop use
Many speakers emit stray magnetic flux that can wreak havoc with your computer's video monitor or a nearby TV. The AV 40s are magnetically shielded, so they can coexist with other equipment without interference.

Features
  • 4" polypropylene-coated woofers for tight, accurate bass
  • 1" ferrofluid-cooled silk cone tweeters for clear, pristine highs
  • OptImage III tweeter wave guides for superior imaging and detail
  • 15-watt-per-channel amplifier with Class A/B architecture
  • Magnetic shielding for use near computer video monitors

I really do know good sound. I work at a studio in Mass. working with really great artists and projects. We have a Neve board and some super nice monitors. Going to Berklee, I know my way around nice studio monitors. These are not for pro use. These are not for home studios even, if you can afford better. These are fun, decent sounding monitors. I first bought these in my first semester at Berklee, and they were half off. It was a steal. I pretty much used them for listening to music and running my guitar rig (as I didn't take an amp to Boston). These things have pretty decent response, can go pretty loud, and don't have drastic EQ changes like (arguably) Bose or any other consumer speaker system. The AV40s are perfect for casual stuff. If you have a home studio, and you can't drop $1000+ on monitors, these are probably fine (although I like the BX5's a lot). I don't mix on these, although it's a heck of a lot better than mixing on laptop speakers, Bose speakers, headphones alone, or even a single high-end monitor. If you're looking for a pair of monitors for less than pro uses, these are your best bet.

Really I don't have anything good to say about these other then they turn on, play audio, and give you an idea of how your mix will translate through horrible transducers. I currently mix on B1030A's and love them. I ONLY bought these to reference my mix through a very low quality monitor to help me understand how it may translate in the worst situation. If you mix with these you aren't getting an accurate representation of what you're really doing to your audio. I also feel they aren't worth the price for the set. But of course these are all my opinions and everyone is entitled to there own.

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I purchased these to replace a pair of Bose speakers with a similar price and found them to be much bettering sounding. They are a little larger than the Bose but still fit easily on my desk top. For the money you can't go wrong.

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I have had these for a couple of weeks and they are a far cry better than the old units I had that were on the cheap side from Koss. These have more volume, better bass and come with a nice assortment of cords. They are nice looking as well. I may even get a set for my old TV that seems to crack at the low end bass from some of these science fiction shows. These are just right for what I have space for.

Comments about M-Audio AV 40 Studio Monitor Pair:

I am not sure what these people are complaining about. I just hooked these up and in my setup they sound fine- they produce a good sound and are the right size to fit where I need them to go. I have set up Radio station studios as well as recording studios- these are not expensive speakers so don't expect that. Put them to work where they fit and you will be happy. They come with a nice set of cords that make the job easier to hook up. Keeps me from having to do the job but I am capable of doing it. I am a BSEE and a 40 year Electronics Technician- you can trust my comment- I tell people when they have junk or not. These replaced the junk I was using.

I have had these monitors for 3 years, I am a music producer.. I sell beats online all the time get great mixes never had it sound bad in other listening environments or on other speakers, sounds good from my tv to my phone and everywhere in between..

You gotta learn to use them, you will get use to the way they sound and how they translate onto other systems, use sound proofing position them right for your room and you should be good.

                  Worth the money,

In one word...noise. This pairs takes about 20 minutes to "warm up". Tons of distortion. I wish I had done more research (check the m-audio forum) before I had bought these. Seems they had tons of problems with them.
