Now, BX5 D2 monitors extend the bestsellers’ legacy with an elegant new design inside and out. M-Audio has leveraged technology from their high-end monitors to extend the frequency response and provide an even more natural listening experience. With the BX5 D2, you’ll enjoy the utmost accuracy in an engaging listening experience.

    M-Audio monitors—number one by design
M-Audio’s experienced engineers combine innovative thinking with masterful speaker design and superior craftsmanship, developing monitors that push technology boundaries and outperform the competition. From the high-resolution M-Audio DSM series to the best-selling M-Audio BX series, our monitors provide the perfect monitoring solution to complement your professional setup, project studio or mobile recording rig.

    Accurate and enjoyable
Whether you’re recording, mixing, or mastering, your monitors are your primary reference source. Accurate monitors let you hear exactly what’s happening in your mixes—and give you the assurance that your music will translate well to other listening environments. The M-Audio BX5 D2 monitors leverage a decade of monitor engineering expertise to deliver exceptional transparency and sonic definition—allowing you to enjoy marathon mixing sessions with minimal listening fatigue.

    Designed for pros—and beginners
Countless pros use M-Audio studio monitors to produce and mix the music and audio you hear every day. The BX D2 series makes that same design philosophy and technology available to anyone with a passion for great sound. BX5 D2 helps you understand what’s in your mix so you can make better decisions about how it will translate across a wide variety of systems—from MP3 earbuds to car stereos to audiophile rigs.

    Silk-dome, waveguide-loaded, high-frequency drivers
Our high-frequency domes are made from natural silk to counter the audible ringing that is inherent in the poorly crafted metallic materials often found in other monitors. The high-frequency driver is fully isolated from the rest of the enclosure to ensure minimum distortion, providing ultra-smooth frequency response up to 22 kHz. It also features a built-in waveguide, which offers an expansive sound stage and exceptional imaging.

    Kevlar low-frequency drivers
To insure a lifetime of service, we constructed the BX5 D2 monitor’s 5” low-frequency driver from woven Kevlar. Kevlar’s high mechanical and thermal resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones. Our engineers also created a curved conical design that improves room dispersion. High-damping reliable rubber surrounds provide percussive musical bass, and insure that the cone reaches its optimal excursion for accurate reproduction. And our high-temperature voice coils reduce power compression, guaranteeing that your monitors will deliver full performance hour after hour.

    Rear-ported cabinet design
The BX5 D2 cabinet is integrally designed with its other components for optimal performance—right down to rounded corners for reduced edge diffraction and superior imaging. The custom rear port is designed to minimize air turbulence and resulting distortion while adding additional low frequency extension.

    Bi-amplified efficiency
The Class A/B bi-amplified design dedicates separate power amps to the high and low frequencies—providing ample headroom for even the loudest and most dynamic of mixes. Combined with a finely tuned crossover, the design ensures that each driver only delivers the frequencies that it can reproduce most efficiently, resulting in tonal accuracy and cohesive sound across the entire frequency spectrum.

Find the sweet spot quickly and easily
When monitoring, it’s important to sit in the middle position or “sweet spot” between the two speakers—where the stereo image is optimized. BX5 D2 features a pinhole power LED that makes finding the sweet spot easy. You’ll know you’re in the right listening position when the BX5 D2 power LEDs appear to be brightest.

      Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

Very well constructed, very reliable, very flat sound/tone, (Yes, if you are in the studio, that IS what you want as opposed to heavy bass). The whole idea behind a set of studio monitors is that they are totally "flat" on the equalization scale. Why? Because thats how you get a baseline of what your product really sounds like. Your listener is going to add bass, midrange, and treble according to their tastes. If you record a song on really bassy speakers, it's going to sound trebly on normal speakers.

I bought a pair of these as individual items when Musicians Friend had the singles on sale for roughly 1/3rd off. I've not fully run them through their paces, but the sound is clean and flat. Imaging is very good. Hook-up is easy, volume is excellent. They are solid and attractive, too. Excellent bang for the buck.

Did I mention that Musicians Friends' free shipping got these to me in less than 48 hours? Exceptional service!

          Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

I have been searching for a pair of monitors that did not break the bank, but didn't drop in quality. I have spend several weekends in music stores comparing speakers, but nothing came close to what these guys can do! Since they are bi-amplified, they separately pack a powerful punch that makes any musician happy. I have listen and recorded a wide range of music on these speakers over the last four months of owning them and cannot find one flaw! I even use them to monitor live performances and they continue to prove themselves over and over again. I will say that the 5" and 8" have a difference in bass when it comes to hip-hop, but that is not a type of music I specialize in recording. This is not a flaw but being realistic when dealing with 5" speakers. Obviously, the 8" speaker set will carry more bass response and high end due to the construction. Aside from hip-hop, they pack a mean high and low for recording. Hands down, these should be your first and only choice for monitors! I record in a relatively small room and these carry enough sound to be heard across the room. You can do your homework, but you will come back to these.

            Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

I have been hunting for a reliable set of monitors for quite some time. I was bouncing back and fourth between the KRKs, Mackies, Yamaha, and these. The problem was the price tag for a good sounding monitor above a 5" speaker. I sat down in a music store for about an hour testing out my line up and noticed I kept coming back to one particular speaker. It had a great range from low to high and was freaked loud! I looked over and saw this 5" M-Audio shining through it all. I was stunned! For the price tag, these are a great deal and was exactly what I was looking for to install in my studio. No matter if you are using them for mixing, mastering, reference, ECT these get the job done. I will say that these are so clear and able to define tracks that I am going to re-mix a few of my songs because I was horrified at what I thought were good mixes. IF you want an entry/experienced pair on monitors you have to try these out. Don't waste your money on a 3" pair or any other 5" pair of speakers, because you will be disappointed. Great buy and thank you to all of the previous owners who suggested them.

I wouldn't buy it, they have seemed to have a history of bulging capacitors that result in the crackling/popping. Id save up some money to get something nicer.

              Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

For years I've always wanted a "demo" studio to work out all my new tunes and overdub ideas before heading to the studio to make my albums. This year was the perfect year to attack the project. I spent countless hours doing research for my studio and I always came back to these bad boys (BX5). I was told by many that I didn't need anything to fancy for demo's, but I didn't want to be upgrading in a year because I purchased something that was just good enough. I am glad I stuck to my guns, as these speakers are awesome! I had them set up and running in minutes, and in my mind are perfect for any home studio. Not to mention also great for just listening to music (as I am now) while online researching for the next addition to your studio. Sexy little blue light indicator for power on the front, easy connections and volume on rear, of most important great sound to hear your creative ideas come to life. My platform is acoustic based and my research shows these speakers work excellent for many different flavors. Very happy all the way around the board with this pair of speakers!

                Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

I have used all types of professional monitors, from super high end, to NS-10's and beyond. The trick is to find monitors that you can afford - both money-wise and ear-wise.

These speakers, for my ears, are by far the best bang for the buck. Easy. They are honest enough so that it doesn't sound like another mix on my car stereo (which happens when speakers have a heavy EQ built in). They have a great clarity in the highs, and a tight response in the lows.

I recommend these often - unless you can afford Dyn's or Adams, get the BX's.

                Excellent for the Price

                By Glenn Scofield

                from Colorado

                Comments about M-Audio BX5 D2 Studio Monitors:

So far so good. They sound great. Tight bass and crisp highs. They compliment my passive set and provide another glimpse of the sound potential of your mix. I would not depend on these as my only monitors. (That's because I wouldn't depend on ANY single set. You MUST have different monitors to get the full picture of what you're doing. Either that or transport your mix from system to system to get your feedback.) They're a nice addition to my control room.
Not a lot of features, but you really don't need them. Reference monitors are all about placement and the room they're used in. All monitors are "colored" so you need to get used to how your favorite music sounds on every different setup. Volume and balanced inputs are pretty much it for these guys.
They seem to be well made, but I still have reservations about powered reference monitors. I've used my passive Event 20/20 pair for almost 20 years now. Sure, I've replaced power amplifiers during that time, but the total cost of power amp replacement was less than the last set of powered monitors I purchased. (Adam A7, which were excellent, until one of them quit working.) Can't comment on how long these last as I've only had them for a couple weeks. But, if I can get three years at this price, then they're well worth it. I just fully expect to have to replace them while my passive 20/20's will keep on trucking into the next decade and beyond!
Can't beat the price for what you get.
