OVERVIEW

Acclaimed Ultimate Ears technology.

Developed specifically for musicians, M-Audio IE-10 professional reference earphones incorporate stage-proven Ultimate Ears technology
to deliver studio quality sound anywhere you need it. Featuring precision balanced armature technology and 26dB of isolation, the IE-10
is great for live and mobile monitoring”with the added benefit of being a serious upgrade to the earbuds that came with your personal audio player. The IE-10 delivers better bass response and higher input sensitivity for more sound than anything else in it's price range. The included universal fit kit ensures optimal comfort and fit, and pro style ear loops wrap over and behind the ear to keep cables out of the way, relieve cable tension and help keep the earphones in place for a perfect fit. The detachable 46" cable is even replaceable to
extend the life of your investment.

Proven Ultimate Ears Technology
M-Audio professional reference earphones incorporate acclaimed Ultimate Ears technology”the same industry standard that has revolutionized live performance monitoring. Many of today's best known touring artists and the sound engineers who make their
concerts sound great trust Ultimate Ears for the utmost in comfort, accuracy and reliability.

Monitor Anywhere
M-Audio is synonymous with the mobile recording and production revolution. Now M-Audio IE professional reference earphones with Ultimate Ears technology give you high-definition monitoring on the go without lugging bulky, delicate headphones. They're perfect companions for
any mobile studio”like a Pro Tools M-Powered laptop with Transit or other M-Audio interface. They're also ideal for field recording with compact units like the popular M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96. On stage, you can say goodbye to cumbersome monitors and feedback. And you can even use them to pimp your personal MP3 player for critical listening on the go.

Precision-Balanced Armature Drivers
All IE professional reference earphones employ advanced, precision-balanced armature drivers”the same technology used in premium custom earphones”to deliver high efficiency, extended high frequencies and superb natural bass. Armature drivers are also significantly smaller and more accurate than comparable dynamic drivers, which is part of the reason why IE professional reference monitors are so compact.

Universal Fit Kit for Superior Isolation and Comfort
Superior sound isolation (26dB) minimizes outside sound to deliver a purer listening experience”eliminating the need for a bulky pair of noise-canceling headphones. This also helps protect your ears because you don't have to crank up the volume to hear the detail in your music. All IE models include our universal fit kit to ensure optimal isolation and comfort for hours of high-quality listening pleasure. It includes an assortment of ear tips in different sizes and materials for a personalized fit for your ears.

Professional Ear Loops
The hanging cables in traditional designs can catch on nearby objects and cause the earpieces to loosen or pop out altogether. All IE
models feature professional-style loops that hook over and behind the ear to minimize that problem. And if your 46" detachable cable
ever does become damaged, simply replace it instead of your earphones.

Value & FeaturesDon't even try to judge it's frequency response on the first use if this is your first IEM. I said that because I know you will be very careful while inserting the IEMs into your ears so they will not go deep enough. COMMON amongst all first time IEM users. After about 3 days use, you'd know better. This IEM has a solid build. On the very first day of use something funny happened. The cable removed from the left monitor! I thought I had damaged it; just for me to see that we have smart guys at M-Audio. It is developed in a way that if the tension generated while trying to insert into the ears is high, it disconnects the cable from the IEM so as to preserve it. Not some crazy science but the IEMs are actually plugs!!!For Studio (Creating & Mixing)The sound of this IEM is first-class studio grade indeed! The only issue I have with this is that I do heavy bass material (Hip hop & rock) and the bass is not just deep enough for me.For Live Use (At Church)This is for sure a live IEM. It excels in flying colors here. You'd hear all the instruments disctinctly and the bass sounds far better. I guess because of all the subwoofers across the stage producing throding thumps into your IEM mix. I run REALLY low volumes in this IEM while playing the Piano at church and I'm as clear as I can be! SUMMARYI'd recommend this to any live musician (from lead singer to the bass guy). For studio use, it's good for monitoring along with bass from your reference monitors and not as a stand-alone.

I already owned a set of Ultimate Ears super-fi pro 5 earphones which I returned under warranty - who knew the cable was replaceable? I bought these as a replacement for kicking around with my iPod and bought another pair of UE5s.Differences? Day and night. Extended bass for the UE5 is incredible, the M-Audio IE20 is supposed to be a direct replacement BUT, here's why I'm glad I didn't buy the IE20s:The smallest IE ear tip is larger than the smallest ear tip on the UE5. I have medium ears. The military says so; orange triple flanged. THE IE-10 ear tips HURT after about a half an hour. All of them. The UE5 replacement set I bought on eBay for $130? They're fine. Go figure. Sounds like a quality control thing or lack of product testing/feedback.The Good point? Cables ARE replaceable, AND are robust, not quite 12-gauge, but thicker, a little hard to get to uncoil straight. Another product testing problem, but the effort is appreciated.Would I buy them again? No.

Only lasted 60 days

By Bow Man 56

I purchased one set a few months ago. The quit working just over the warranty period. Had a hard time getting a replacement approved but they did replace them. Then, the replacement pair did the same thing. They quit working just over the warranty period. Buy some other brand. They lasted 60 days and were great for the 60 days.

good for the money

Just got these I.E.M's to back up my Shure SCL2's in a live situation. They have way more volume and fuller bass response.Won't know how good they'll hold up 'till I've had them a while but they seem road worthy. The cable is short and the case that comes with them is soft , so if you're hard on things get a better case. Take the time to fit them properly , I think you'll be satisfied.

Sound and Clarity

I've had these headphones for about a week. For now all I can say is the audio quality is amazing. Because they get so deep in your ear the bass is amazing. The only bad thing is that they stick out a lil so when i try to sleep with my music it hurts. Also you will find your ear developing more ear wax than normal because your ear protects itself from loud noises. :) Also it comes with about 4 different sized cups for a perfect fit. Overall they are cool headphones to have for monitoring or just plain music listening. If they were a lil cheaper they would be a steal.

I haven't had much experience with in ears but i like these, i've used some of the shure ones and they are good but they hurt the inside of my ears and these don't and they have a good sound. I think they are well worth the money.

I have used M-Aduio as my main brand of gear, this earphones just made me feel more confident in trusting M-Audio.The sound quality is great, more over the noise canceling of 26 bd is no lie. They do cancel a lot of the live noise I am sourround with on stage.Plus while jumping arround the stage with my guitar they wont fall off for anything....Just the best.

Good Value

I got these as my first set of in-ear monitors to use for drums when I play with my band. If you've never owned good in-ear monitors you need to learn how to get them to properly fit in your ears. If you don't get in right you'll lose all your bass freq. in the mix. For the price they produce good even mix of freq. The only weak side is the tips. Like any tips whether its Shure or Ultimate ears, they never fit quite right and fall out if I use them at the gym. I would do what I did and upgrade them to Comply Foam tips which are super comfortable and can be cleaned if they get dirty. If you get them buy the model that fits the Ultimate Ears since they are practically the same type of ear bud.

Solved my problem

By Psteeler

from TX

Someone lifted my Shure P6HW set so I needed to replace the set that was stolen. I didn't want to spend $400 or more on a set of ears, then I saw the M-Audio series. For the price I decided I'd try them. Though I've only used them once, I'm a believer in them now. They are great. I'm running them into an $80 Behringer UB1202 4 channel mixer. Our sound man sends me a signal and I create my own mix. I send a signal from my amp into the mixer and I get exactly what I want. I now hear what I want to hear and am able to shape my tone and play better without all the other stage noises blaring in my ears. Now I can tune my guitar in noisy situations without being disturbed. For now, these will do the trick. The product appears to be well made and they fit tight yet comfortable in my ears. My set is not marked left or right but maybe the more expensive sets are. For hardwired situations like mine, you'll need to order the new 1/8" male to 1/8" female stereo cable. It will give you an extra 25' of cable. The standard 42" cable was not long enough for my setup. Great product M-Audio.

Great if they work

After less than a year of ownership, using them only for 8 live performances, the right driver has failed. I tried the left driver on both channels, and it works, and the right doesn't work on either channel. I'm now stuck with sending them off to M-audio and I have no choice but to use my giant over-the-ear headphones for my next performance.

They look cool but have no range

By Kp-QlqMH

I was pretty disappointed with these earphones. For the price i would expect them to sound at least as good as your average ipod earphones. Not so. They lack low end and I would NOT recommend them for bassists for that reason. I had major problems getting these to fit my ear until I read about conform tips in another review. They really make these earphones much more comfortable and usable on stage. As a guitarist, they work fine onstage, but I don't like using them for running or mixing, as they lack range on both ends of the spectrum. My Sennheiser cx 400's blow these away in terms of sound quality. However if you are looking for an affordable set of stage ear monitors, be sure to get some conform foam ear tips to make them usable.

Great for the price

Super earbud for the price. I've used these 4-10 times a month for the last 3 years for practice and on-stage with our Shure wireless monitoring system, and they have performed wonderfully. Different sized ear tips make fitment easy, and the 48" replaceable cable is plenty long. I've had no problems with the buds fitting around and in the ears- just be sure to cinch up the cable behind your head, and they stay in place just fine. Tough to beat product in this price range.

Very Nice

The M-Audio IE-10 Reference Headphones are all they claim to be. The only thing I wish that they did have was a wider frequency response. Other that that though these guys hold up on the road and even for personal device listening.

But junk when it comes to listening to music. I use them with my metronome when I play live, but listening to them with your iPod or on my macbook, they suck.

Tinny - my $9.00 set has more bass

By Doug Robertson

from Reno

I purchased the M-Audio IE-10 to replace Koss earbuds for my on stage monitor system. The IE-10 was a challenge to figure out how to properly get into the ear and secure it with the thick wire. Once I figured out how to get it in, I fired it up with a couple of my MP3 players and audio units. With every unit I used, the IE-10 earbud produced a brassy, high piched sound with bass and mid's totally missing. I couldn't even hear the lower strings of the acoustic guitar. To assure myself that I was just being too critical, I pulled out my cheapo earbuds for my workout radio. Plugging them in, I got all the frequencies I was looking for. Having determined that I could get better sound than the IE-10 produced, I put them back in the box and sent it back.Sound response on the IE-10 is not acceptable for an on-stage application.
