Acclaimed Ultimate Ears technology.
M-Audio IE-20 XB Professional Reference Earphones offer Ultimate Ears technology trusted by top touring artists and their sound engineers. They feature enhanced bass designed for music that is normally monitored on systems with a sub woofer. The IE-20 XB benefits from a dual-speaker design with integral crossover: The dynamic low-frequency driver delivers full, punchy bass while the precision balanced armature driver provides crystal clear mid-range and high frequencies. This results in a high performance reference monitor system designed for critical listening during mobile recording/production
of bass-enhanced music such as dance and urban genres—not to mention transforming the way your personal music/DVD/game player sounds. Other features include 16dB of isolation, professional over ear loops, detachable/replaceable cable and universal fit kit. Simply put, you won't find a finer set of earphones for delivering the bass you love.
Proven Ultimate Ears Technology
M-Audio professional reference earphones incorporate acclaimed Ultimate Ears technology—the same industry standard that has revolutionized live performance monitoring. Many of today's best-known touring artists and the sound engineers that make their concerts sound great trust Ultimate Ears for the utmost in comfort, accuracy and reliability.
Extended Bass for Dance Music
If you don't think that you can get deep bass out of a set of earphones, you haven't heard the IE-20 XB. Thanks to an innovative dual-speaker design—an armature driver like those used in high-end custom earphones for the highs and mids, and a dynamic driver for the lows—the IE-20 XB delivers full tonality with an added kick just where you want it. The audio crossover network routes each frequency of your music to the appropriate driver. Patented dual-bore technology rounds out the equation by providing separate acoustic canals for each driver's output to deliver a wider sound stage and much fuller sound.
M-Audio is synonymous with the mobile recording and production revolution. Now M-Audio IE professional reference earphones with Ultimate Ears technology give you high-definition monitoring on the go without lugging bulky, delicate headphones. They're perfect companions for
any mobile studio—like a Pro Tools M-Powered laptop with Transit or other M-Audio interface. They're also ideal for field recording with compact units like the popular M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96. On stage, you can say goodbye to cumbersome monitors and feedback. And you
can even use them to pimp your personal MP3 player for critical listening on the go.
Superior Frequency Response
Without good frequency response, you're missing most of your music. The IE-20 XB delivers an amazing 20Hz-16kHz frequency response,
twice that of the closest competitor—and the IE models cost several hundred dollars less.
Universal Fit Kit for Superior Isolation and Comfort
Superior sound isolation (16dB) minimizes outside sound to deliver a purer listening experience—eliminating the need for a bulky pair of noise-canceling headphones. This also helps protect your ears because you don't have to crank up the volume to hear the detail in your music. All IE models include our universal fit kit to ensure optimal isolation and comfort for hours of high-quality listening pleasure. It includes an assortment of ear tips in different sizes and materials for a personalized fit for your ears.
Professional Ear Loops
The hanging cables in traditional designs can catch on nearby objects and cause the earpieces to loosen or pop out altogether. All IE models feature professional-style loops that hook over and behind the ear to minimize that problem. And if your 46" detachable cable ever does become damaged, simply replace it instead of your earphones.
The IE-20 XB earphones include an attenuator/limiter that conditions the high sound output of in-flight movie and music channels down to a comfortable listening level. The limiting function even spares your ears during loud in-flight announcements.

I purchased IE-20xb with the intent to use them for in ear-monitors. I wanted the extended bass response because I also have to mix on the fly for our FOH and we use subs. I cant testify to the sound quality but judging from the size of them they will pound your eardums plenty! They would be great for the bass player or drummer! But they are definetly going to be sticking out of your ears (very noticeable) and I think some would have difficulty with getting them to stay in. I am exchanging the IE-20xb for the IE-30. To the gentleman above and others. The main difference between the IE20xb & the IE-30 is the IE-20 uses a different low freq. driver and they only provide 16dB of sound isolation. The IE-30 is smaller and lighter weight. Both are great products of that I,m certain! I hope my review helps. I have spent alot of time & $ researching and investing in ear monitors. And since you cant return in-ears after youve opened them, its nice to know what you are getting.
I play bass and sing. I use these for monitoring, instead of floor wedges. These replaced my Shure earphones that were stolen from a gig. I think you'll be hard pressed to find bigger sounding bass in any other earphones. The only unfortunate thing is they are pretty large and stick pretty far out of my ears. Some might feel odd using them because of this (I followed the manual's recommended method of insertion). I haven't had comments from anyone about how they look, though. To my ear, these sound great. If they were lost, I think I'd go with the IE-30 next time, but mostly out of curiosity about what the extra $50.00 gets you. If you like big bass response, buy these. You won't be sorry!
