I am a professional sound engineer. I have used this interface to record both in the studio, and at venues recording live bands. I carry it around in my rack, and it is connected to two ADA8000's for the added inputs and outputs.
MY favorite quality of this interface is how great the converters are. This thing has a great wordclock also. The Line Inputs completely bypass the Octane Preamps, so if you use an external high end preamp it does not get "Muddied" from the cheaper interface preamps.
The DSP control panel can be a pain in the butt for someone who is new, however. It is a little glitchy but overall, it works fine.
It is built very well, except for the knobs...they come off easily. They feature a nifty push/pull for using the PAD.
Absolutely great deal on these right now. I bought it for about the same used, while they have dropped in price recently.

When it works, it's great. When it doesn't....well...I can't be dead in the water at a live recording session.
Purchased the first Profire 2626 in March 2010. Less than 1 year later, the product developed problems. While connected/recognized by the computer, I would attempt to plug in headphones into input one. This would occationally put the 2626 into a "freeze up" condition. Every LED on the unit would light up simultainously, and it would lose connection with the computer. The only remedy was to shut down and re-boot. Doesn't work when doing live recordings! Sent in under warranty and replaced. Unit number 2......Unfortunately 13 month's after receiving this one (now OUT of warranty) the unit will lose connection with the computer while recording and playback. You never know when. I'm waiting to see what M-Audio will do about this, but I'm not expecting a lot. Confidence is crucial during a live recording situation to minimize my stress level! Number 3? Only if they give it to me...
When it works, it would be hard to beat considering the price, and the fact that I use ProTools.
There seems to be a big jump in price to the next desirable model. I like this price range for a "traveling" unit.

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 2626:
This interface is great. Extremely low latency, I was able to monitor my guitar through abelton and an amp simulation/effects rack with no perceived latency. You can expand it up to 26 i/o without buying more firewire interfaces using the 2 ADAT lines meaning you can use preamps. Also loving the 8 monitor mixes great for having bands in the studio (though I haven't had need of all of them yet).
When I first bought it I thought it had some issues with it but it turned out this was actually my computer power supply failing (it quit altogether a few weeks later) so the unit was functioning properly all along but this let me see what there support was like: helpful with prompt response time.

The Profire 2626 is one of the best interfaces on the market today! Whether you are on a budget or not this interface is perfect because there are so many options as to what you can do. I personally own 2 of this interface and I have them linked together to have 16 inputs and I absolutely love them. Ive had them for about 3 years and have never had any issues whatsoever. Another awesome feature the profie offers are the Octane preamps. The sound quality on the octane preamps is awesome. If you are looking for a interface with good preamps so you dont have to buy any, definitely get this one!

If you run Windows, don't buy this unit. Lots of Driver issues on Windows 7. For me, everytime I playback a song- within 2min it starts playing the song all garbled. Requires you to turn off and on the unit. However, M-Audio will tell you this is a problem with Windows and to take it up with Microsoft (which is not the case).
I also expected since Avid/M-Audio are one now, that I'd have the best integration and I have the worst. It offers 192kb and yet it can only do 96kb in Protools. Comon.
I honestly would feel bad selling this unit to anyone, my 12yr old FirePod is better.

Well, it works fine.... But if i wanted fine I would have bought an M-Box. The pres are not quality, only one headphone output works and clips very EASILY. I have this in my home studio and would not recomend this for any studio besides for pre production. The Pres are also very noisy.

Lots of you might have struggled to get this device working on your Win 7 machine. Most of the problems are caused by the type of firewire card you might be using. There is no problem with the device... it just needs speed, some firewire cards are slow. AKA... connectivity issues. Problems like the device doesnt stay connected to the DSP mixer, or connects but does not want to record in your DAW.... FIREWIRE CARD... Swop it out for something better. Struggled for two days straight to get it fixed... only to find out, it not the device, its the firewire card.
only reason im giving only 7 is because I havent checked out everything yet. But the pre amps on this baby is awesome!!!
The fact that it has 26 in and outs makes it truly a awesome product.
Well on sturdyness (if there is such a word) will only be proven over a few years. But on first glance the device looks rocksolid, ready for the road. As said above. The 26 channels is awesome and good quality for money

I have owned several audio interface, including the digi 003. The profire 2626 is a great sounding piece of gear. The pristine octane preamps are remarkable. I had a few at first when using the profire 2626, but I found out it was the firewire network configuration on my iMac that was the problem and running my profire 2626 through 2 external firewire hard drives. Once I figure what the problem was by reading the M-audio Knowledge Base I was good to go. What I like about the profire 2626 it is a iU rack size which takes up less space that my digi 003. Also, it is very expandable because it has 16 channels of Adat I/O, the digi 003 only have 1 Adat I.O. I have 2 Behringer 8000 connected via 16 channel Adat I.O and it is great. The 26 I/O provides me with all the inputs I need to connect my microphones, 6 sound modules, 3 keyboards, and more! The profire 2626 is also capable up to 24bit and 192Kz. If, you are looking for a great sounding and expandable audio interface get the profire 2626 and you will be very satisfied.

I am currently saving up money to buy this piece of equipment. The guy who records my band uses it, and its truly amazing. However, if you are using Windows, it will not work as well. Windows is not efficient enough, and you will have problems. I also recommend only running Logic Pro or Pro Tools. This will give you the best results on a Mac and with proper DAW.

I dont know why this thing is only rated 4 stars.. its a great product.. the preamps are great and have no noise and it works flawlessly with pro tools 8.. i dont know why their are trouble with the drivers.. i went to the m audio website and downloaded the drivers for my pc and my mac and they have no problems!! if u have an interest in recording semi professionally, get this!!!
