I'm very pleased. This unit performs well and is extremely easy to use. I have had it for almost 2 years now and I haven't had a single problem with it. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for the the best interface in this price range. I'd issue the slight Mac user beware, but other than that, it is great!
I purchased this unit for use with my 64 Bit Windows based PC. I have an intel i7 processor with 18 gig of memory and the stock Asus Motherboard Firewire Port. I use Sonar X1 Producer as my DAW, I have Native Instruments Komplete 8 and EastWest Hollywood Brass and Hollywood strings. I am not a professional grade studio by any means but I feel like I get some pretty amazing results from what I have. This unit is very much a part of that. I love the Octane pre-amps and for an interface in this price range I have no complaints whatsoever.
I am aware that there is limited mac driver support which is really too bad, and a bit surprising considering this is a FireWire interface. My experience using it with a Win7 PC has been fantastic though, so I have to rate it at a 10. If you have a mac, you may want to verify that they have developed a driver for your specific system. Just do your homework.
Great Bang for your buck and a overall great experience. I'd recommend this interface to any home studio enthusiast.

Just got mine a couple of days ago. Thanks Santa. I attempted to use it with Win7. Had an install error right away. After browsing the install CD I found out that it only has the 32-bit VISTA driver (ProFire610_V32_5.10.00.5076), what a shame, they use a 697MB CD only for a 11.7 MB driver. Then M-Audio tells you to go fish! I went to check for the updates. I could not find the "Profire Software" for Win7 but I found the "Driver". I guess the "Software" installs the "Driver" so I went ahead and installed it manually.

Nothing works, it cannot detect the device although all my IEEE1394's are up to date and working.
I tried to reboot many times, restarted the device also making sure I avoid any hot-plugging. No success.

Do not buy if on windows

          By Issac Villarreal

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

Check out M-Audio's forums for "Profire 610 random sample offset bug." This is a driver problem that has been verified by M-Audio 2 years ago and a fix has not been given to windows users yet. This bug causes the sampling rate to shift constantly which results in recorded audio being shifted slightly ahead or behind of the intended recording time. A mac fix was realeased about 18 months later. No word on if or when a fix for the windows fix will be released.

features look really great on this unit. Unfortunately, it isn't compatible with my brand new Mac. I tried returning for a new unit and each time it wouldn't connect to the Mac. M Audio support was horrendous, and it was only through searching user forums that I found out the trouble I was in. Very dissapointing

          M-Audio a poor risk

          By RickinLA

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

Recently purchased the Profire 2626 interface which has many very cool features... (You hear a "but" coming, right?) This is a unit that has not been on the market very long. I use it in conjunction with a Mac Pro Tower and Mac OS 10.6.4. That is.. I wanted to use it. However, Avid has failed to update the drivers to accomodate this configuration. Thus, I now have a paper weight. If they would fix this, I'd be happy to retract my comments.

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

For a 1 man home recording set up this interface is a great choice. It works really well with all my instruments and mics and there's never been any noise or latency issues, and firewire is overall a better choice for recording over usb. The mic pre-amp is great with my nt1a and the onboard software mixer is easy to use and the drivers are as stable as they come. Highly recommended as it's the best firewire interface in that price range. Enough ins/outs for a comfortable home/mobile studio.

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

I've using this interface for a year now, I never had a Problem with it, the preamps are super transparent. I work with Windows 7 64 and Snow Leopard and have used the interface with Pro-Tools m-powered and with Logic; no problems so far. Overall excellent interface, I'm always on the road and I carry it in my laptop backpack.

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

I own a high end rackmount firewire interface which is my main tool but I needed something smaller and portable for my laptop. I was somewhat skeptical whether this interface would cut it for my recording needs but it surprised me pleasantly. Setup was a breeze! I had all the drivers installed and cables plugged in within 10 minutes and tested out my first recording...The preamp quality is awesome considering the price and latency is not an issue b/c I'm using ASIO drivers. I mainly use this inteface to direct record guitar & bass and play back programmed MIDI drums/keyboards using various plugins. This little box is built rock solid, it performs reliably every time and is very simple to use. A truly outstanding value for the price! Just be sure that you have firewire compatible hardware in your laptop/desktop and know how to tweak your system before you proceed.

          Solid, reliable, good unit

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

I bought this to upgrade from a Firewire 410. I first got a FastTrack Pro Ultra - better features as far as inputs and effect that this model - but I had the same USB issues so many others did. Returned that unit and bought this - works great, sounds excellent.I love the solid construction, quality pre-amps - all big improvements over Firewire 410. Software is nicely upgraded, drivers solid (XP SP3), latency near zero. I only wish it had more line inputs but I'm using balance TRS lines and y-splitter to double rear inputs with zero noise.

Buggy with Pro Tools, poor quality control

          By skiltrip

Comments about M-Audio ProFire 610 Firewire Recording Interface:

I replaced my old M-Audio 1814 with a new 610. I regretted it immediately. I had a smooth running Pro Tools M-Powered system. The M-Audio 610 made Pro Tools act really buggy, causing my faders and panknobs to lock up and refuse to move anytime I changed an output. And the channel one preamp on the 610 was bad and had an insance hiss/distortion coming out of it, even with nothing plugged into it. I sent it back for a refund, and picked up a 410 on Ebay to at least get me back to working stable again. Since I go the the 410 things are back to being normal and stable again. The 610 offers a lot as far as features go, but it didn't work well for me and caused me a lot of headaches. Also, I did not like that in Windows you could not choose spdif as your default playback path. You have to choose Multi. Then work out the rest in the M-Audio mixer. with the 1814 and 410 you did not have to touch the mixer, and I liked that.
