I've owned these monitors and mixed out of them for 4 months now. I've heard that they don't reproduce good bass. Well given the instance that they're not 2000watt subwoofers yeah. They don't kick you in the chest when it comes to bass. but there regulated at 50 hertz believe me i've done frequency tests on these puppies and they performed. Train your ears and they produce a very accurate mix. They have switches on the back to help accompany how far away they are from the wall and if there in corners this too I've noticed helped with a more accurate mix.
I just got these things for my home studio based on price, but I was really pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. They far exceeded my expectations. I'm used to working in my friend's studio with his Mackie 824's, and these BX5's compare very favorably, for 1/7th the price! You cannot beat this value anywhere.
I can honestly say these monitors are great. I used mackies, and events. I have to say M-Audio has got it right. If you're looking for solid set of monitors, these are the ones. The sonic quality is great, the design is sleek, and the overall sound will BLOW YOU AWAY!! I would go for the BX8'S If I had the cash. But the BX5's and my active sub sound great. Strapped for cash? Pick up a set, and a sub to bring out the lows and you a great setup.
I am a pro musician/producer. Recently I was out of town and needed to work some mixes. I had no access to my studio but needed a decent pair of powered monitors so I purchased this system. I am very pleased. For the price you won't find anything better.
These speakers are great for their purposes. I would recommend these for DJ work and/or to get some sound out of a good keyboard. They have pretty good volume, a little bit soft for playing with a band, but loud enough for a bedroom. The clarity on these speakers is what separates them from the others in this class. Nobody else matches the quality of sound. These have very good mids and highs. I would get the subwoofer if you want some serious bass. The overall bass on these speakers is a bit weak.
You can't beat these monitors for the price! They have very good, uncolored sound coming from them. I was so impressed by the cost/value relationship that I moved these into my bedroom with my Vetta combo and Boss BR532 to make room for a set of BX8's in the studio.
I love the way these things sound. Beautiful. Very clear, very crisp. You can't do better for the money. As has been noted by others, these won't shake your house down to the foundation. They leave a lot to be desired in the bass department, but these monitors weren't designed to rattle your bones. My advice would be to buy the SBX subwoofer that M-Audio offers at some point to accompany these monitors. I myself have yet to purchase it, but when I do I'm sure I'll be thoroughly satisfied with this system. You really can't lose with these monitors. The sound fantastic, they look great, great price...what more could you ask for?
I've been shopping for a solid set of monitors for some time and tried every cheap monitoring method I could... finally I broke down and realized my mixes had suffered enough. I saw these for an incredible price and said what the heck, I'll try 'em. Brought them home and pulled from some old mixdowns I did and the difference was night and day. These monitors are extremely sharp and accurate! Best investment I ever made to my studio and to my customers. This is the kind of quality and price that you should see more often in the same package!
I bought these speakers on a whim, and I love them. I compared them with all the other major brands and they were comparable. The price is most definately right. I think I'm gonna look into the bigger audiophiles also. (I love the blue light)
Agreed with the other reviewer who stated to not let the size fool you. Not only that: Don't let the smaller name brand fool you. I A/B'd these against two other Yamaha and Alesis monitors (both shockingly more expensive) and these didn't only sound better, I think they blew them away. For the money, HIGHLY recommended.
