Proven Hardware That Sounds Great
By combining 16 of Mackie’s flagship Onyx mic preamps with the performance of 24-bit Cirrus Logic AD/DA converters, the Mackie DL1608 delivers remarkable sound quality. Add to that eight balanced outputs, and you have a mixer that not only provides incredible dynamic range, fidelity and transparency, but also great versatility and outstanding value.

Tons of Built-in Processing
The DL1608 is loaded with a choice of powerful plug-ins on every channel, so you won’t need to set up additional racks of outboard gear. With just the touch of a finger, you have total control over 4-band EQ, compression and gate plug-ins. Total Snapshot Recall
The Mackie DL1608 allows you to recall mix functions with just the touch of a finger. With Total Snapshot Recall, you can now easily save and access sound check settings for multiple bands, complex song mixes, previous mixes from challenging venues, recall scenes for theater productions and more. You can even pre-set the mixing board and be ready to go the moment you arrive. Note that mic pre-amp gains are not recallable.

Channel Presets
Quickly set up a new mix with the DL1608’s Channel Presets. With simple touch screen control, you can immediately assign a factory or your own custom channel preset for kick drum, bass, guitar, keyboard and more to any channel you choose. And when you’ve made the perfect settings, easily save them for later use and share them with your friends.

Multiple iPad Support
Supporting up to 10 iPad devices simultaneously, the Mackie DL1608 allows multiple engineers to control the mix. Plus, it gives band members the ability to adjust their own monitors. Now, the band can dial in the mix they want to hear in real time right on stage.

Channel Images
No more need to search for a marker to scribble down channel ID’s on a strip of tape, with the app you can use your iPad camera to snap quick pics of the band members or of their gear, for a completely customized channel ID. Channel images is by far one of the coolest ways to identify tracks when mixing live.

Size Matters

I've had this for about a month now. I have to start off by saying even if this was a medicore product in terms of quality, the price alone makes this worth the money. My old rig had a single DBX 266 compressor, a dual channel EQ and a simple EFX processor. These went through a Mackie CFX12. I loved this rig. It served us well, but we needed more compression, more inputs and broader EQ. The DL was like manna from heaven. The sale of my old rig for the DL alone practically paid for the DL but I now have more inputs, better pres, more AUX outs and compression and gate on all inputs as well as compression on all outputs. This baby is chop full of savings!

On top of that, the footprint is a godsend. No more lugging a 60lb box. The DL has all the goodies in a 12lb solidly constructed unit.

I only just set up the WiFi option, but it instantly paid off. I am both the Frontman and Soundman. I can't sing and play with the levels. Sound checks are obviously incredibly important and the Wifi finally allows me the ability to listen to the FOH and make adjusments away from the stage. I set and then forget unless there is some kind of crazy issue.

Another thing that is great is the Mackie Master Fader app itself. Saving the settings is INCREDIBLE. I can save a show's soundcheck, the final settings and then reuse at the same show the next time we perform there. You can save multiple snapshots per show so you can move let's say from an Acoustic portion to a rock portion with different gate/EFX settings between portions of the show. As long as the soundcheck tested each of these, it's just a 3 second recall and go operation. Nice!

Finally, the recording option is terrific. It won't let you record all 16 channels, that's too bad, but I didn't buy it for it's recording so just the option to record a show is great. I am hoping they can upgrade it to provide more channels, but this is still a great option. I pan the mix to use L for vocals, R for the backing band and then use the AUX sends for FOH. It lets me record something I can edit and I don't lose control of my FOH mix.

In summary, I think this is a terrific device with a world of potential. It will only get better as the Master Fader app improvements are released.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with iPad Controler:

I have yet to read a negative review of this mixer that makes any sense to me. After doing 25 plus shows with this, I do not think it can be beat at it's price point for reliablity, functionality and sound quality.

Only drawback to this mixer is the fact that the pre-amps have to be set manually and can't be saved. Since you have to use the Ipad to control it, it needed to have an App that worked right and therfore this has the best Ipad interface of any digital mixer, and believe me I have tried them all.

There's simply no reason not to leave the mixer on stage and mix from a seat in the audience.

The App has been improved many times over the past year so do yourself a favor and visit Mackies website to view the latest manual so you can see all features it currently has.

As far as the EQs,Reverbs,Delays etc, they all work and sound fine if you know how to use them. HINT: start with some of the presets for the channel reverbs and delay

Unit delivers on Wireless promise. iPad and iPhone control is mind-blowing and cool. Bad design: monitors are PRE-EFFECTS and EQ- VERY unsatisfying and disappointing.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with iPad Controler:

A little overpriced, but what a great mixer.
A grand plus the cost of an iPad is twice what this mixer is worth.
I bought a used one here at MF and saved a lot.
        Best features are
Wireless control (buy a cheap wireless router)
Stereo recording of practices and shows
Ability to save settings and levels
        Play break music via iPad
        Compact size
        6 Aux
It'd be worth it if the gain settings were savable and it could do
8 or 16 track recording via iPad or external hard drive
It also lacks sub grouping, so creating a drum mix and then adjusting the overall level isn't possible
Buy one used or wait another year or 2 and competition will drive the price down

Comments about Mackie DL1608 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with iPad Controler:

Been using a pair of these at two different venues (both churches) for about a year now, quite satisfied with their performance despite some issues. One is installed Front of House in a multipurpose space, one is in a mobile rig. The mobile console has yet to act up in any significant way, the other has had some teething problems (iPad dock not working, wifi dropping all over the place, all early on). The mobile one has recently had some wifi issues as well.

I've found that the controls are accurate and responsive, even over wifi there's no lag. The App is well thought out, intuitive and free. It's constructed with typical Mackie "Built Like a Tank" ruggedness. Frankly, it offers a lot more than most other small format mixers, including six aux sends (which I use for in-ear monitors on both). The on board effects are pretty good, but I tend to mix fairly dry (save for some reverb and delay).

The point: good, versatile little mixer despite teething problems.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 16-Channel Digital Live Sound Mixer with iPad Controler:

I really wanted to like this device as it seemed perfect for what I was doing and I liked the idea of the wireless connectivity. I wanted to move around without being nailed down to the base and this seemed to fit the bill. I was *sharply* disappointed with what I got. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters in a mixer is the way it sounds. Gimmickry doesn't impress me and it shouldn't matter to anyone who's serious about sound either. While it's perfectly fine if you want to work "dry," I was most disappointed with the cold, artificial reverbs. They make the singer sound like they're in a tin can. They're actually worse than those found in the almost-as-awful-sounding ProFX series of Mackie mixers. I have a manual so, while the controls aren't obvious, I did get the hang of it after some quality time.
Also, the wireless connectivity is really dodgy. Just because it works for you once doesn't mean it will again. I went a round with "tech support" a week ago and they had me reinstall the update to version 2. I got connected on the bench and thought I'd be fine. I had a gig this past Monday night. It was my third live attempt with this mixer; the first two attempts had failed for the same reasons) and I hoped for better results. I set it up initially (without really testing the reverb - dumb thing to do!) and it was fine. I left everything on, put the iPad to sleep, and went off to dinner for an hour before the gig. I returned with 10 minutes to spare, awakened the iPad, and couldn't reconnect. I tried repeatedly over the next 10 minutes - turning off everything and turning it all back on in the proper order - but got nowhere. I ended up asking the pianist to stall for me and having to dock the iPad into the mixer (not what I wanted at all) to run the gig. After discovering the poor reverbs, I left everything dry - again, not what I wanted. I'm hoping Mackie will get this together as I know they can make great mixers. The CFX series (were they still made) are phenomenal! This, on the other hand, is a disaster. I am currently back to using my amazing Yamaha and I won't experiment in this way again.

As a worship pastor, I have looked hard and long for a great tool such as this mixer. The only request I would have with this is to add at least 4 more channels. We have run outdoor, indoor, small and large room with this and it has met the need. Very versatile and very easy to use. Love the mobility that it offers. It does come with a plastic casing but we have our own case that ensures it's safety.

The sound on this unit is quite clean without too much noise like those analog mixer I have tried before this.
