Channel Presets
Quickly set up a new mix with the DL1608’s Channel Presets. With simple touch screen control, you can immediately assign a factory or your own custom channel preset for kick drum, bass, guitar, keyboard and more to any channel you choose. And when you’ve made the perfect settings, easily save them for later use and share them with your friends.

Multiple iPad Support
Supporting up to 10 iPad devices simultaneously, the Mackie DL1608 allows multiple engineers to control the mix. Plus, it gives band members the ability to adjust their own monitors. Now, the band can dial in the mix they want to hear in real time right on stage.

Channel Images
No more need to search for a marker to scribble down channel ID’s on a strip of tape, with the app you can use your iPad camera to snap quick pics of the band members or of their gear, for a completely customized channel ID. Channel images is by far one of the coolest ways to identify tracks when mixing live.

I've had this for about a month now. I have to start off by saying even if this was a medicore product in terms of quality, the price alone makes this worth the money. My old rig had a single DBX 266 compressor, a dual channel EQ and a simple EFX processor. These went through a Mackie CFX12. I loved this rig. It served us well, but we needed more compression, more inputs and broader EQ. The DL was like manna from heaven. The sale of my old rig for the DL alone practically paid for the DL but I now have more inputs, better pres, more AUX outs and compression and gate on all inputs as well as compression on all outputs. This baby is chop full of savings!

On top of that, the footprint is a godsend. No more lugging a 60lb box. The DL has all the goodies in a 12lb solidly constructed unit.

I only just set up the WiFi option, but it instantly paid off. I am both the Frontman and Soundman. I can't sing and play with the levels. Sound checks are obviously incredibly important and the Wifi finally allows me the ability to listen to the FOH and make adjusments away from the stage. I set and then forget unless there is some kind of crazy issue.

Another thing that is great is the Mackie Master Fader app itself. Saving the settings is INCREDIBLE. I can save a show's soundcheck, the final settings and then reuse at the same show the next time we perform there. You can save multiple snapshots per show so you can move let's say from an Acoustic portion to a rock portion with different gate/EFX settings between portions of the show. As long as the soundcheck tested each of these, it's just a 3 second recall and go operation. Nice!

Finally, the recording option is terrific. It won't let you record all 16 channels, that's too bad, but I didn't buy it for it's recording so just the option to record a show is great. I am hoping they can upgrade it to provide more channels, but this is still a great option. I pan the mix to use L for vocals, R for the backing band and then use the AUX sends for FOH. It lets me record something I can edit and I don't lose control of my FOH mix.

In summary, I think this is a terrific device with a world of potential. It will only get better as the Master Fader app improvements are released.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

So far this is the best mixer I have bought and I am very satisfy with it. I like the fact that all the mixings control remotely using ipad and everything seems to work great without any issue so far. The sound on this unit is quite clean without too much noise like those analog mixer I have tried before this.

I think the combination of the price-point, the iPad compatibility, and the aesthetic appeal of the Mackie 1608 Mixer make it a hit in live sound events/production. With it's awesome functionality, the iPad 3rd generation combined with this mixer is a beast and a well tempered one at that!

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

First off... This was a factory refurb purchase. Apparently Mackie didn't find the fault before they repackaged this unit. It failed after about 4 hours of use. The sound abruptly stopped midway thru a song. I still had input signal on the gain LED's, but nothing at the input sliders. Big thumbs up for Musicians Friend customer service, however. They immediately arraigned for a brand new replacement unit for the refurbed one.

As far as the DL1608 while it worked... Setup was a breeze. Sound was excellent, (I've used Mackie mixers for years, and this is consistent with the other analog mixers). Controls on the iPad are smooth and accurate, although its a bid difficult to tap between the LR and the AUX buttons. Good delay, and good reverb, but not great. Just average. I'd still highly recommend the 1608. Every once in awhile a bad apple slips out with all of them.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

We run a performance based music school. Our sessions end with a live performance in a local venue. The unique changes in our mix from song to song have always challenged sound engineers. Now we can have our mixes ready to go and at a touch change the settings when the kids on stage change. No more sound checking in between songs. This device is light weight and easy to use. My job is usually organizing the kids and advertising. I have limited training on sound engineering and yet this is so easy to use I can look like a pro too.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

This peice of Equipment is awesome on most respects but then it really drops the ball on others, for example is it great for EQ capabilities on each channel, and a overall room EQ, that you can store for all your different venues, but trying to adjust the bell curve and slope is so touchy this needs to be modified. Also you have to have wifi to go mobile with this unit and you need to go mobile to eq and get the best sound for venues and clubs, so if the club doesn't have it you need to bring it. You also can not group tracks like drums, or vocals. you have to have independant control of each track. But this is still the best piece of Equip out there for easy quick sound checking at gigs, i am sure the next gen of software will fix the issues that not only I am seeing with this, MAC is usually pretty quick on updates and fixes. I used a friends for one gig, did not have the manual and figured it out with just a little help from him, and I was off and running into deeper menus and playing with features that he didn't explain. 4 out of 5 on user friendlyness once you know where the menu's are layed. And sound quality is tip top. Carl C.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

I used the DL1608 for the first time last night in a small club and was so pleased. I sat my mic stand up on the dance floor and the iPad on a chair and did sound check singing and playing in front of the mains. The DL1608 is so easy to use, sound check was very quick. I can't go back to my huge rack full of compressors and gates and EQ's. My only complaint is the compressor is not set up so you can compress vocals in the mains with out compressing them in the monitors, which would feedback like crazy if you tried. I think they will fix this with future updates. I hope.

Comments about Mackie DL1608 iPad Mixer:

This unit seems to cause a lot of high energy (and negative) discussion - Mackie VS Presonus, have to buy iPad separately, no sub groups blah, blah, blah. Its all noise from people have a lot invested in their "way" and gear. That's OK. For everyone else who wants a small, powerful, great sounding mixer to replace aging MixWiz's, Mackie VLZ's and the tons of terrible Behringer low end mixers, this is a great unit. The size and weight is unmatched. Basically replaces the snake head. Six monitor outputs with an EQ on each output. EQ, Comp, Gate on EVERY channel all the time! The MasterFader software is fast, easy to learn (really) and is easy on the eyes in a dark club...and its FREE! 10 remote ipads can connect with lockout, per unit. I can sit front and center in the room and mix from an iPad 1! No wires! Record the mains rigtht to the iPad. This will make you look cool when the next band shows up.
