I love Mackie, I really do. they are a great bang for the buck, and just an all round great product. Having said that, I have had problems with their amps over the years. My first amp in 2001 was a 1400i and it came out of the box with a bad bus cable on the board. No big deal, got a new one and off I went. Got an 800i also and no problems. Just recently bought a new FR2500 with a bad speakon output for the bridged position(worked great at practice but was dead as a doornail at the 1st show. Thing let me down.) Took it back and exchanged it, and came home with the same problem right out of the box. What are the chances? (yes, the selector switch is set to "bridge" and the imput is on channell one, so know I'm not crazy or stupid. I don't spell good though) Here is the deal. Mackie makes great amps. The Fr 2500 sounds great and plays hard. Good luck blowing it up-It's built like a brick **** house and delivers the goods. I know from time to time quality control has it's issues with any company but I have not had good luck over the years with Mackie's amps right out of the box. When they are running right however, you can't beat them. Oh, and the screw holes didn't line up with the rack handles. There is a left and right ear ear mounted behind the face plate. It is screwed on and the holes in each don't line up very well. Mine quickly underwent surgery to remedy the problem. My only other gripe would be that the new FR series amps have lost some of the cool features found on the "i" series amps like variable crossover and the constant directivity horn switch which made for more flexibility. Mackie needs to check their quality control. Still love those amps, but tell whoever made both of mine that he owes me twenty bucks for all the gas I used exchanging this amp for the third time. If you buy yours in a store rather than online, pull it out of the box and patch into a PA so you can make sure it's working properly.

I bought this one about a few months ago. Never had the chance to test it fully. When the party came, this amp failed miserably. It didn't deliver its' specification rating of output. Turned the knob all the way up and it barely deliver. Bridge output jack don't work, but the the banana output seems to work fine. Still the output of brige mode still under deliver its' rating.I'm in a rock band for 3 year and this amp sucks.

Great Amp!!! Read the Manual!

By diskord5

from Mankato, MN

We have two of these amps and the rock! We have had no problems with these after two years of good use. These things sound great and are really loud. As far as the people complaining that the mono out doesn't work, I hope they read the manual and swapped the wires inside the speakon cable being used - without doing that you will hear nothing!

Big let down

By KRB70

from State College, PA

I really wish I would have done better research on these mackie 2500's. We ordered 2 amps... 1 scratch & dent & 1 new. I put them in our rack without testing them for our New Year's eve gig. Well, the scratch amp powered up with the fan running full tilt and nothing else... I mean, no led's lit in the front and no signal whatsoever. We run with a 4 amp set-up so I compromised with the other 3 to get through. Pulled the defected mackie and sent it back with no replacement ordered. Our next gig, I hooked up the new mackie in bridge mode to run our subs and guess what.... no signal from the "bridge" speaker output. Yes, I did have the switch on bridge mode, input sent into ch 1 (turned up), and I did run my cable from the correct bridge out jack. I switched back to mono and ran from the left / right jacks & it worked fine. I've seen other reviews where the bridge function didn't work after having my own disappointing experience. 2 amps and issues with both... You do the math. Take the chance if you want, but I would recommend spending a little more for the Peavey 2600 instead. Mackie builds a nice heavy chasis but apparently cuts corners on the most important internal design..

Great Power Amp!

By J.C.-UScQN

from Auburn, AL

We use this amp stereo @ 4 ohms for 2 JRX125 JBL mains and its a great amp. We have both Crown XLS series and Mackie FR series. I dont think you can even daisy chain the XLS amps like you can w/ the Mackies. The Mackies have speakon AND speaker cable outputs (the XLS only has speakon and banana outputs) and the Mackies have XLR AND trs inputs (XLS only has XLR which is kind of a pain) Drawbacks: its a solid 10-20 lbs heavier than some amps...but if you have subs, then a heavy amp isn't nearly as bad as it seems

MY SECRET WEAPON. This is why I am in demand!

By tom682

from Mesquite, TX

Every band that I work with tells the club that they sounded GREAT. They've got to have me back to work with them. I run about 15 bands each week. I am using the Mackie FR2500 amp with Yamaha SW118V subwoofers. I load this gear in and out of clubs almost every day. I also use some cheesy Peavey SP2 cabinets for the highs and mid?s (with a CS800 power amp). I am convinced that the Mackie Power Amp and the Yamaha speakers make everything sound powerful. I am buying more Yamaha speakers (the same subwoofers and now Yamaha mid/highs) today, and you can BET I'll be pushing it with a new FR2500. This stuff is priced right and knocks them dead. They can't figure out how I make it sound so good. Last note: My FR2500 fits in a 16" deep rack case... the amp is heavy, but it fits in a cheap rack case and I carry it on its own so I can load in alone / just 1 man working. You can buy the 16" deep case anywhere, and my CS800 won't fit in one. I love these Mackie FR2500 amps.

It just keeps going, and going....

By Vrotate

I bougth this to run 4 Yamaha BR 12 monitors in stereo in a rehersal room. Man it will run you out of there! I'm going to buy another one to run my mains. Great amp for the price. I had heard people say they were unsure of Mackie power. Well I am sure! The only thing I have to say to the negative is that the srew holes for one of the handles didnlt line up with the frame and I cant use that handle. That was poor craftsmanship.

Best buy that i have found so far

By Anonymous

I own three of these little babies and i am on my way to get a fourth, plenty of power without high current drain, very efficient for size and wattage. Run them hard all night long and they keep up with us every minute!!!Highly recommend them to anyone looking for an affordable quality high output amplifier.

Awesome amp

By cmcblues

from San Antonio, TX

THIS THING IS SOLID. My amp has been dropped twice (in the rack box) and they just happened to be the first 2 times I used it! Nothing but pure, clean power from this beast. I run it 4+ hours for bar/club gigs and it doesn't even break a sweat. This amp garners my faith in Mackie products. Thanks for making such a rock-solid product.

Awesome, clean, powerful

By GerenM

from Columbia, MD

Clean and powerful. I just ran a 3 hour concert with one of these, pushing two full-range cabs on each side. I had the amps turned up about 75%, and I could still make it far too loud in the room, which was a small (150 seat) theater. At the end of the gig, the amp had been powered up for a total of about six hours, and ran for a sound-check/rehearsal, as well as the show. It wasn't even warm! The only negative is that, even though Mackie claims you can run as low as 2 ohms per side, the amp really doesn't want to do it.
