Overrated

By MikeNJ

Comments about Mackie HR624 Active Studio Monitor:

I bought these HR624's and ended up trading them for something else after 6 months. For all the technology Mackie put into them, they sure are underwhelming to listen to. Mixing is difficult and fatiguing. I was very disappointed in these monitors. Hopefully the MKII's are better.

These monitors rock!

Comments about Mackie HR624 Active Studio Monitor:

I have owned five sets of monitors over the past 10 years of owning a home studio. I started with theAlesis Monitor 1, then Alesis mk II, then M-audio Dx3, and most recently KRK RP5s (with the RP10 sub). Until now, I have never been able to justify and afford to spend the money on a great set of monitors. That being said, these monitors are pricey, but I honestly feel that they are worth every penny. The mids and highs produce the utmost smoothness and clarity. And the bass is solid, but not overbearing. I really love the stereo imaging. In searching for these monitors I looked at the Yamaha MP50s, Rokit RP6, and several different version of monitors from the EVENT series. Take the time to listen to what is out there. Not everyone has a budget which can strech to accomodate these. However, I think that I finally have found the monitors that I have been looking for all these years and for that it was definitely worth the price.

Nice fit and finish

Comments about Mackie HR624 Active Studio Monitor:

A bit bright and harsh after extended periods. Nice crossover points. I thought the the Alesis MKII were alot better to mix with. If you can handle the brilliance and slight harshness, then these are the best in the range. Please note that most monitors with any kind of metal high frequency transducers are on the bright side. Also, the really strong point of these are their imaging qualities.

Very nice

Comments about Mackie HR624 Active Studio Monitor:

I have owned in the past both Alesis Monitor Ones and Event 20/20bas monitor systems both of which I thought were extremely bright sounding. The HR624's are very musical and easy to work with for extended periods of time.

Mackie Monitors

By A. Sauter

from Suffield, CT

Comments about Mackie HR624 Active Studio Monitor:

This particular set of monitors is disappointing. My school purchased them and I was suprised by their performance. For serious listening, these monitors tend not to bring out the lower levels that other monitors and even speakers generate. I do not think it would be wise to rely on these monitors for production, mixing or mastering.
