Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
I'ver been an avid mackie customer for decades. I just can't figure out what went wrong in the lab on this one. Mackie...you guys have been best in class for too long to let this mistake tarnish the brand...cut your losses and bring back the 808s.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
Sorry Mackie, peavey smokes your doors off on this one.
Clipped several times at several gigs then one night it clipped and died. The best option on this is the subwoofer out, of course the light weight is awesome. But for the price, Peavey kicks its hiney.
the sound quality is ok at best, but not why I would buy a mixer like this, bought it for portable live sound with alot of power.
price isnt bad, but no matter what you pay for it if it dont work, its useless.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
Avoid this product. I made the mistake of purchasing this along with Mackie's 300z speakers. While having the mains set to unity with only one guitar and one vocal, the built-in speaker protection would keep kicking in which causes one speaker to shut down for a split second or two. This has happened at each live gig.
I reached out o Mackie via e-mail and never heard back. I tried calling and was on hold for 30 minutes before giving up. I then went to their Facebook page and asked for help. I was told it was on its way. Two weeks later, nothing. So, I then posted a note on their wall asking if they cared about their customers? They responded by deleting my comment and banning me from their page.
This thing is a POS and Mackie clearly has dropped the ball.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
I am a professional singer/Guitarist what I call a "Bar Professional". and perform about 200 shows a year. I hate to buy new gear, but I know what works for me and Mackie still does, I bought a whole Behringer system on the adive of a friend and associate and sent it back after a week. I ordered the Mackie and the a pair of JBL EON's and now I am happy again.
Only thing I haven't like about the 1008 so far is no actual gain control. but I have found away to overcome that. Just keep your line level signals lower and let the Mixer and Amp do the rest.
I have two 808M's one 11 years old and another that is 4. unfortunely they are both in need of some repair. I play a lot of gigs near the ocean so humidity can be a killer for these. But I think this is a Quality PPM. I tried the Behringer 1680's and sent it back after a week trying to get it tweaked.
Well let me say that for the 808M's I Own I paid about a little less for both of those. The price might be a bit high for this unit but you get what you pay for in most cases. I.E the Behringer 1680s, it is my opinion that the 1008 is much better.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
I bought this powered mixer based on the trusted Mackie name. Friends of mine have used the 808 for years and years and I've always loved their sound.
This mixer for me has caused nothing but grief! I am playing at very low-level volumes with minimal FX. I've had huge feedback issues (partly due to small spaces I'm playing in) but also experiencing crackling sounds and distortion from the vocals. I have followed the Owner's Manual instructions to the T and have read through the manual many times in hopes to figure out what is causing this distortion at such low volume levels.
Last night at a gig, I had to shut it down and just play the acoustic guitar and sing unamplified. I'm very surprised that I'm having these problems with a Mackie.
I have replaced all of my cords and even purchased new speakers thinking that the speakers might be the problem.
I would not recommend this PA head.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
I have used plenty of Mackie gear over the years and always had a great experience until I got the PPM1008. It cuts out at random during a gig. Even on a soft acoustic set. I've had it less than a year. Plenty of features but the cutting out is not acceptable. I called Mackie and now I have to carry it in for warranty repair. Not what you would expect from a quality piece of gear.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
do not buy this mackie 1008 powered mixer, musicians need to depend on their equipment, I'm returning it,it was distorted at low volume & the mic pre's seem to fold up & die for several seconds with any hint of powerful vocal. Using inferior gear can cost you gigs , it may have cost us a club .
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
A nice layout, lots of power, light weight, recovers quick but not really designed to compete with the 808 as 1st advertised. I'd say this is a entry level board at best. We gave one a try and sent it back in three weeks. Very hard to manage from the stage, feedback was bad, would clip very easily because they eliminated the gain control which is a must for stage monitoring, especially with 2 mains two monitors. Too many effects-who cares! If you have a 808 keep it. The next model up may be better as it has 808 gain features. Also this will not run at 2ohms. Nice try but sub par to the 808's. Never was able to get a sweet sound.
Comments about Mackie PPM1008 8-Channel 1600-Watt Powered Mixer:
Might be great if anybody ever gets them and Mackie stops hyping their over-priced equipment WAY BEFORE it is released. I went thru 3, yes THREE 808s's in 10 years as a gigging musician in NJ and the tri-state area and they always sounded GREAT, but durability wise were ridiculous. Hopefully these newer lighter versions are road worthy.
