Pair these with a set of Mackie Subs and you can handle almost any room. They are a little heavy, but remember the amps are built in! They sound just as good at the back of the room as they do in the front. Can easily handle a small outdoor event (using only one pair). If you need to do a large venue, they daisy chain together with no loss of signal. I've owned these for over five months with no trouble at all (play every weekend). Would like to hit a couple week long gigs to see how they holdup (one year warranty). Sound wise...I havent heard anything better...I've used Peavey/JBL/EV and a few lesser brands, the Mackies are every bit as good and somewhat better than all. Crisp Highs, Excellent Mids and Deep Lows They are a little expensive for small working bands, but at least you don't have to buy an amp. If you mic bass and drums use Subs!! Will overload these if used at high volume alone when you mic the whole band.

I had a pair of these for about two months and used them very conservatively for basement practices and one live gig (I pair them with the SA1521 subs. The speakers sounded incredible unfortunately both 15" woofers blew. I returned them to the store and had to upgrade to the 1530's to avoid waiting 3 weeks for the 1521'a to be sent for repair (and cancelling a gig). The 1530's have been reliable but I thought the 1521's sounded a little better. Fast forward -Spoke with the guys at GC last night (6 months later now) and they told me countless 1521's have been returned due to overheating/blown cones...They also said the the Mackie reps themselves are very disappointed in the quality and products Mackie has been putting out. Looks like Mackie is not the company they used to be (disappointing). GC is now recommending the new QSC powered speakers (which they don't have displayed yet). If you buy the 1521's make sure you get an extended warranty and can cope with downtime.

If you can Afford em, They are nice!

By Protojim

from Michigan, USA

Picked up on a pair of these for our band, run straight out of mackie cfx-16. They are loud and sound better than any other 2 way 15 I have heard. Think I'll eventually add an swa 1801 sub to complete the low end. Don't get me wrong these have plenty of lows in the full range, but since bass and drums are mic'd, need the extra low thump from a sub to better balance the mix..

Takes a licking...

By Matamoris

The fact that these puppies sound great is a given. What's more, I own two and I've dropped or tipped them over multiple times. I'm not bragging, but lo and behold, they are still kickin' 100%! I just wish the speaker grill was not convex shaped, I've had to replace that.

Just what you would expect from Mackie

By Mr. Ed

I bought 4 of these speakers about 6 months ago. I paired them with Mackie's Fussion subs and these things blow you away. The sound from these speakers is amazing. They have very punchy bass and great highs. The only problem is that they are a little heavy to put up on stands. But I guess that's life.

Fantastic

By bassbobh

Tired of lugging PA gear? I was, and I sold everything and bought a pair of 1521's. Problem solved... great, loud sound, easy to setup and move. I don't understand the other lower scores, these things rock!

Great for quality musicians

By Music Man-4slYn

from Nashville, TN

I've read some of the reviews and it seems that most of the negative remarks come from rock groups who probably are not concerned with with quality and are running these things to the max for volume. I know music and I have carried a 1300 seat auditorium with no problem at all. For small and medium venues you couldn't ask for better quality. Matched with a couple of SWA1501 subs, you have a monster sound!

Speakers push a large amount of high quality sound

Love em! They are a little heavy to put on a pole. Great match to the 15" Mackie subs. Used in DJ setup and Live Band. Rocks for small and medium sized venues. Even filled up a very large HS Field House 5x Basketball courts very nicely.

Best Big Sound for the money

By Bump in the Road

from Eugene, Oregon

My band mate bought two of these with the 1801's and coupled together are amazing. We bought a cfx 24 channel and some compressors as well. Weve had them for 2 years and never had a problem except we mounted the 1521's on steel poles and one fell through. Make sure to weld a seat plate to help support the weight of these guys. We have and no problems. Mackie had a local rep take care of it for us... it took about 2 months. But the dealer gave us another 1521 to use in our downtime. We play Country / Rock / Pop and the we are always complimented with the sound. Everytime!! Mackie gear is a step ahead in my book.
