I bought ONE Mackie SRM1801 about 6 or 8 months ago to use with my own band. So far, I have only been able to use it once. PLENTY of punch from kick drum. Good support for bass guitar for the multipurpose room we were playing. (250 people at a college alumni reception in another state, no one under the age of 40) We play blues, Motown, classic blues, a little funk. The one sub handled my band nicely.
Then, around Dec 1, I had a "new church" client rent my "small system" which included the single SRM1801, a pair of JBL Eon315 for mains and four Mackie TH12A monitors. The agreement was that the client "keeps" the system at their facility until their contract is up. The contract is for 12 months.
The client LOVES the system and are very glad I "made" them take the subwoofer. They were convinced it was not necessary...but after using it, they understood the impact it makes on their music. Rich, warm, "full" sounding. And light enough that they can pack it away. (Their facility is the multipurpose room, cafeteria-auditorium with stage, at the local Junior High.)
KEEP IN MIND, all tools are intended for certain applications. I own JBL PRX618S-XLF for my larger system and use those subs at multiple events requiring hard driving low end or long throw and large audience coverage. I would not use the SRM1801 (even if I owned a pair) for those types of events. But, in the world of "small venue, budget priced, active subwoofers", the SRM1801 has served my client and I well.
One works fine for 350 people in a worship service. One worked very well for supporting the low end of my band at that one "college alumni" event.
Mated with the Eon315 mains (around 300 Watts) and the Mackie TH12A monitors (200 Watts) these SRM1801 fit nicely. If you happen to have an active crossover, you will appreciate the more focused low frequency reproduction.
Nice tool. Use it for the size events it was intended. If you do, then you will probably be happy. I am.
Granted, some (many? most?) "new" models on the market have some difficulty when they first reach the real world. The SRM1801 has been on the market long enough that I am comfortable with the one I have.
My current plan is to purchase a second in the near future.

We bought this sub 14 months ago and it failed on us 3 times. We bought a 3 year warranty and the first 2 times it went out were due to two seperate power amp issues that were covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The third time the sub went out was just a couple weeks ago and the warranty company said it wasn't worth the cost to ship it back since these subs have known problems. Anyway, we got a gift card for the full purchase price. Probably going to buy a QSC Ksub. If you buy the Mackie Sub... Good luck!

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
Floor shaking bass with dependability . Built in amplifier is well matched and simplifies installation . Sound is great and fully adjustable . Rugged construcion makes breakage unlikely . Only drawback is the weight which can be expected with a heavy duty speaker . This is a great buy if you catch it on a sales promotion !

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
It looks so good but maybe that's the problem, you know, "to good to be true". I've used it twice and looking to sell it, it can't be trusted. It begins to clip as soon as it gets warm (not even very warm. Right where you need it, there it goes and you're waiting for it to just shut down, (like a lot of the reviews talk about). I own a large amount of Mackie equipment, the early stuff and let me tell you, never have I had the scare with any of it that I got from this sub when this thing started doin it's own thing. What happened to this company, I thought I might be interested in the DLM Series (2 subs n 4 12" tops) but right now, nobody has them to audition them and none of the stores I go to do any promoting on Mackie equipment like they did when I purchased my stuff. C'mon Mackie, get it right again, you got my e-mail, do something for the consumer before we all abandon you!

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
These are a no-brainer. I run two per side for my sound company Black Tie Sound. The design gets you into the small-footprint system with the big-cabinet coverage. Balance output with gains, hook-up quick with internal crossover. Use an outboard crossover to control. Look nice, tremendously versatile. I gave a 9 only because the cab is fixed at 125hz high-pass. But....much over 125 and you'd run into trouble anyway so........
As a sound company using these the only problem I have is making people realize you don't need Woodstock cabinets these days to cover some good size events.
Simple is good.
Solid, no significant energy transfer through cabinet.
I see no better deal, quality of build, watt.
Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
This is a good sounding sub but in the end it's garbage because it doesn't last for anything.
Not really anything bad to say about the features it was pretty plain and straight forward.
Great sound, when it works.
My band bought one of these and had to return it within the first month because it just died.
Our replacement lasted a little less than a year (In that time we only used it for about 7 or 8 gigs) and died, this sub is garbage made with cheap components. There are dozens of postings about how this thing died on people after only using it a few times.
If this thing lasted it would be worth it but as it stands this isn't worth a dime.
Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
I had a large gig this weekend...using two of these a crossover and some Yamaha mains...the soundsystem far exceeded my expectations. I think using a crossover is key with any sub, and last weekends gig had nice crisp bass. My band opened for some Country stars who played with just acoustics and their voices....the sound was just fantastic. I have only used them twice so far, but I would highly recomend them.
Decent features...not overly heavy and have plenty of power!
Only had 2 gigs...so far so good.
I've used a number of subs over the years...for the price I paid, on sale, these are just really great subs.
Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
These looked awesome to go with my old Mackie tops which I've never had an issue with and the price was right. I got these for my regular gigging band. After 6 months of steady use one just quit working. That's ok I'll send it in for repair. These things happen. WOW! It has been 4 months and I still don't have my speaker back. Shop claims first power supply they recieved was no good which is what happened to it originally. They are still waiting on a second one and they had to replace the speaker as well due to crackle. I asked the tech what would be a better speaker to buy. He said buy Peavy, made in America and can get parts next day, have you ready in a week. Buy American. What a concept. This time I will. I'm looking for a replacement now.
Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
This is a pretty nice sub. Hits hard and sounds crisp and round. The nicest feature is it has stereo ins and outs for operating 1 sub with stereo mains up top. Not the highest output, but would be nice for smaller gigs or weddings.
Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18in 1000W Powered Subwoofer Black:
I use two of these in conjunction with two SRM450s for a pop/rock band that gigs about 3 times/month. They have been out over a dozen times and so far everything has worked great. I'm able to get a nice thumpin' kick drum sound that is plenty loud for medium venues. For larger venues (auditoriums, gyms, etc.) I rent or borrow an additional pair. I use the Mackie speakers in conjunction with a dBX Drive Rack PX. The band is at mdkrocks.com if you want to see the style of music we are reinforcing.
