Not Worth the Money

By Loopcat

About Me Professional Musician

Pros

  • Versatile Right Size

Cons

  • Sub Par Mic Pres

Best Uses

  • Amateur Recording

Comments about Marantz PMD671 Compact Flash Recorder:

Overly-Complicated! I don't understad why it's this HARD to get the settings straight. MIC PRES are not very good. Like, not as good as my old Mackie board. Marginal with condenser mics, BAD with dynamic mics. Don't even think about ribbon mics.
Maybe OK with external pres.
The real question is the AD convertor.
I'll post back later.

You Should Consider This Recorder!

By Jeff-6I30A

from Interior Alaska

Comments about Marantz PMD671 Compact Flash Recorder:

I've used this recorder for all sorts of projects for years -- ranging from music: live recordings and studio recordings for commercial CD's, foley for movies and animations, and field recordings of natural sounds. It has been used in all sorts of weather and conditions. It has performed way above expectation. I use only 8 Gb Lexar and SanDisk CF cards in it and have NEVER HAD ANY SORT OF ISSUE! I also use it for sound reinforcement for videos. I live in Alaska's Interior and when out in the bush I can not afford to have equipment give me problems. I would whole heartily recommend this product to anyone interested in field recording. I wish it was four tracks. I own the PD671 and the PD670. I have also used the PD660 and the PD620.

Comments about Marantz PMD671 Compact Flash Recorder:

I've used this field recorder on dozens of short film sets over the past few years. Its done its job pretty flawlessly. The audio records clean and sweet, superior to the Zoom H4 and H4n which I've also used in replacement. The features and settings are a little un-user friendly and take some figuring out, and its not easy changing settings on the fly when time is short. However the unit is reliable and the basic interface simple. The other review mentioned not being about to use large CF cards, but I've never had any issue in that matter. I've never once filled more than 1GB CF card in an entire days worth of shooting, and as long as you have a single backup I don't see the problem. Overall good unit, high price yeah, but good.

not worth it

By Quzo

Comments about Marantz PMD671 Compact Flash Recorder:

everyone has been having issues with these units and the compact flash memory you try to use. It will not take over 1 gig CF and thats if you can still find them.
