As far as I know this is a fine drive. But it is NOT Firewire. It says that it is in the title but if you read the specs, there are no firewire ports. It's not a suitable drive for recording to.
Great drive, I have this one in 500GB and use it every day to do backups from school and at home.I have it hooked up all the time with firewire and store my large Video and Audio files in when doing any type of production work. It's nice and quiet but has a huge bright light on the front. Some black tape to cover 3/4 of the light helps but I put mine under the desk.If anyone is looking into external drives, this unit is great.
I never had a problem with this drive. Its light, but well made. Comes with an optional stand, but I don't need it because it just lays on top of my PC. I usually keep it turned off when I'm not using it because it does generate a bit of heat. File save and retrieval is very quick and I don't notice any kind of lag within my applications when the drive starts to spin.
I had a hd from this company for about nine months when it went out, taking all of my files with it. The company fixed or replaced it, I'm not sure which, but it has continued to have serious problems. I have since given up on it. I can't risk it going out while tracks are being written. I would rather take a hit on performance and just use my system drive. Anyway, all that to say... DON'T BUY IT!
