This really is the phattest pre I have ever owned - and I've run through a lot of pre's. Swap out the stock tube with a "long plate" 12ax7 (cryo recommended) and you've got instant phat. Just remember that the tube retainer slides down (not over) the tube top. Sounds noticably better than my UA's, better than my Focusrites - and way cheaper than any of them.Really. This is a sleeper and probably the best deal in a mic pre on the market today.Granted, the compressor on the EnVoice is minimalist - but if you're tracking through this, the comp will give you everything you need. You can squash it in the mix, if that's what you're after. If you don't believe me, MusiciansFriend offers a money back guarentee if you don't like it.. but I seriously doubt you will be sending this back.
It almost seems like every studio is using this and its sibling, the DTC (Dual Tube Channel). Forget everything else: ART, Avalon, Focusrite, and Presonus. Granted, I like some of the competing products, but I prefer MindPrint. You don't need a huge budget to get the best sounds. With this, you get just about everything you want in a channel strip, except impedance matching for mics. Sound is pristine and uncompromised. Definitely recommend it.The only downer, and it seems to be a trend now, is that digital I/O is an add-on optioin.
