This double mic holder is the best way to set up a coincident pair of XY mics - perfect for drum overheads or other stereo requirements. Cut the number of required mic stands in half!

This thing works ok as shipped, but with a very minor adjustment, it's perfect. As shipped, when you attach a mic clip to each of the brass studs, there's no way to precisely align the direction that they point when screwing down the clips. Instead, remove both brass studs, and with a Dremel tool (or even a small round file) grind the threads off the holes in the cross-arm of the bracket. After that thread is gone, the mic studs will just slip into the crossbar & spin freely. I put a small o-ring over the studs to keep them from falling back out (o-rings from paintball CO2 tanks fit perfectly). This lets you precisely position both mic clips to get your XY lined up at the desired angle & direction.

I am using this to hold two overhead mikes for drum set. It has two design defects: 1.) the mount knobs on either side don't spin freely which means the mic mound will only tighten in one position which is probably NOT where you want it and 2.) the center hanger doesn't tighten down centered on the axis of the bar. I was able to correct #1 by grinding off some threads with a Dremel tool to make it spin freely (and use 2 large washers I had laying around) and fixed #2 by wrapping a pices of solder around two threads to make a crushable washer. Now it is TIGHT, solid and holds my mics exactly where I want them and cost a quarter of what the others cost. So by all means get it, but be prepared to do some "engineering" to make it do what you want.

Good Inexpensive adapter

Comments about Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment:

Got this double mic attachment because obviously I needed to be able to do stereo recordings without two stands. Other folks have reviewed this and given it low ratings because of adjustability problems... well, I don't find that to be a problem. I did need a washer to get the main connection lined up properly, so that the tilt is at the proper place. However, I did not find the need to drill or file out the holes where the mic clips are attached. If the handles are loosened, and the clip is put on first, the handles on the bottom can be tightened while holding the clip from above. It can be positioned any way you want. I have had no problems with it, and it sure beats a $10-20 adapter at the local music store (which would have to be ordered, anyway). Good buy for the money.

Comments about Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment:

Don't buy this. It's so cheap, but it doesn't work well. Some mic clips/mounts can't be tightened down and the adjustable hinge won't stay in place. If you do buy this, plan on using lots of gaff tape to hold microphones and the mounting bar in place.

Comments about Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment:

It is what it is... a metal bar that allows you to connect two mic mounts (I'm using two small booms) to a mic stand. The tilting bottom mount is pointless for me, but I guess it may provide some extra flexibility if you need it. However, it's easily removed. You could make this if you wanted, but to be honest, it's not worth the hassle as this is so cheap.

I use it to have two mics set up in my vocal booth where I don't really want another stand in a confined are. This would be an ideal solution for setting up a stereo pair.

The X/Y problem solve on the cheap

        By Gary Snyder

        from in a house

        See all my reviews

Comments about Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment:

The screw mounts do not "spin through" which means the unit won't allow you to position a clip where you want then tighten the know, yes, a screw up on their part. I fixed by using a die grinder to take out some threads and allowing the screw to spin free at the bottom of its threads. I placed an "O" ring at the mount point to make the overall mount easier to position. You could probably just slip "O" rings on the clip mount screws too and be done with it.

This thing works, is very inexpensive, but requires a little ingenuity to get it to work.

Comments about Musician's Gear Double Microphone Attachment:

Cheap and works. Needed to drill out where the threads are to mount the mics (as others have said). It is compact which is nice for live sound gigs or to go with my drum mics when I am gigging. Reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is that it would be easier and probably more cost effective if the mic mount holes that go through the bar were NOT threaded.
