Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
I picked up 2 of these sets just to have extra mics around to try. Different colors for different voices. I was pretty impressed. In the studio I have tried the 2003 on male vocal straight up with an AKG 414 B/ULS, RE 1000, Rode NT-1 and NT-2, AKG 2020, and Sony C48. I have had people in for blind testing, and the 2003 consistently sounds the best. We also tried 2 of them on a drum kit as overheads against similar competition and the 2003 is a clear choice there as well. GREAT sounding drum kit with 2-2003's on OH and a kick and snare mic. Unbelieveable. The 603 is too harsh and the tone falls apart when pushed, so buy it for the great 2003, and see what the 603 can be used for.
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
These are decent sounding mics, the 603S is very bright but also very detailed sounding. Good for punchy acoustic guitar. The 2003 is alot warmer and fuller sounding. I am glad I purchased these mics but the I am still searching for a mic to match my vocals. These are useful to have around since you never know what kind of color you're going to need. My only problem is that both mics were defective, they developed an intermittent rumbling sound (at different times) and had to be sent back to MXL. They were very helpful and repaired one mic while replacing the other. A little inconvenient since these were my only decent mics, but no big deal.
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
I purchased the MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus simply for the awesome MXL 2003, and it turned out to be the best mic purchase I've ever made! After trying the MXL 2003 for the first time, I was blown away! Compared to other mics I?ve used, this one is so clear and perfect that it?s now the one I use for pretty much everything! The 3 micron diaphragm makes this the best mic you can purchase at anywhere near this price level, and the flat 20Hz-20kHz frequency response is phenomenal! I use the MXL 603S to record the mountain dulcimer and didgeridoo, and also use it in front of a bass amp cabinet. This mic excels in each of those applications, and can even work nicely in a pinch for vocals. The compact size of the mic also makes it ideal for hanging above a drum kit or choir. These mics are well-built, and provide a great value for great-quality sound!
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
These two mics have been excellent for my project studio. The 603 is perfect for a clear (transparent) low end acoustic guitar sound. Like when the Guitar is the featured instrument in the mix. The 2003 is perfect for a light crisp Acoustic sound where you want the acoustic guitar strumming to cut through electric guitars or a full instrument mix. These compliment my AKG 1000 which I choose when I need a crunchy Acoustic mid-range sound like for finger picking or something more raspy with the Acoustic. I am very happy with these.
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
This is a great pair of microphones for anyone building a start up studio, or a basement project studio, anything along those lines. These are two high quality microphones. The large mic is great for vocals, drum overheads, sound mic, its great. The condensor gets a great tone out of drums.
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
these mics do what i expected and much more. the 603 does ANYTHING: overheads, acoustic, guitar cab, i've even used it for kick drum and vocals. the 2003 is less prone to a tinnish sound so it excels as a vocal/acoustic/tube amp mic. i am very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone, regardless of music style.
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
Bought two sets a while back. I use the 603s for anything. Sounds amazing on drums in my room and the room I used to record in, I barely have to post edit at all! Great for hats, snare, any toms, AMAZING for acoustic guitar and pretty damn good for clean vocals as well. I have even gotten some good screams out of that thing. Greatest mic I've owned reminds me of the 57 of condensers. I think I'm even gonna buy two more!
Comments about MXL 2003/603S Microphone Pac Plus:
I bought two sets of these mics for my project studio and i have to say they are pretty dang decent. The 603s's work great for hi-hats and over-heads as well as acoustic guitars. I used the 2003's on a drum kit to, and they did a great job picking up everything. With a good Pop filter the 2003 will work quite well for vocals, but make sure your room noise is kept to a low because this thing catches it and you can really hear it.
