The MXL 910 is a vocal and instrument medium diaphragm condenser microphone with a cardioid response pattern. It is ideal for guitars and drums, and also good for vocals. Its response is remarkably smooth and consistent from 50 Hz through 1 KhZ, with a slight rise between those two points. There is a significant presence peak between 5K and 10K with a drop-off after 10K. It is a side address mic. Comes with pouch and clip.

Alright, a lot of folk have wondered whether this was a good mic or not. After all, it was on the Stupid Deal of The Day and also a Black Friday special right after that. Lots of people got their order in and are biting their fingernails hoping they snagged a good mic for the price.
I got mine in the mail and immediately set it up to A/B against my Audio Technica AT-3035 - my reliable 'old faithful' stand by for vocals and instruments. I placed both mics exactly the same height right up against each other and belted out a few notes. I then did the same with a Martin X-series Acoustic guitar; and they were also placed about 6 feet from a live drum set in a very live room. Here's what I found :
On vocals, the MXL passed with flying colors. Could not believe I had to listen again and again to figure out which mic I liked better. After all - this AT3035 was my go-to mic for several acts and sounded great on male and female throats alike. Differences? The MXL was fuller in the bottom end (160-250hz), and silkier overall. Not super silky - remember, we're talking budget mics - but the A/T was slightly grainy in comparison. More headroom as well. Definitely a winner.
On the Martin 000 the MXL was woodier and more intimate sounding. Less string articulation, more resonance. Softer. The AT3035 on the other hand had more definition in the strings, a bit more bite, and less resonance. I can't decide which I like better because both capture elements of the guitar's true character. As a test I panned both left and right and it sounded like the guitar does in real life. Ha! It's a good thing I own both now!
On drum overheads AT3035 won hands down. This MXL is NOT an overhead mic. Snare and toms on the Pearl BRX sounded mid-rangey and nasty. The A/T captured the kit as it really SHOULD sound - punchy and bright.
I have not tried this mic on guitar amps so I cannot comment. Bottom line - if you can snag this mic on sale you will be glad you did. After a first bad experience with MXL when the 1st batch of 990s came out 8 years ago, I was tained for life, or so I thought. This mic changed my mind. Recommended if you can get it on a special.

As a stupid deal of the day, this may be worth it to some people. But for full price, stay away. Right out of the box, I had my doubts. The screw-on mic clip was VERY tough to attach to the mic. Also, it appears that the body of the mic is plastic. It just didn't fill me with confidence regarding it's ability to stand up to regular use. Sent it right back.

I bought this mic when it was on the stupid deal. I didn't know much about MXL mics, but had a feeling they were just cheap mics. Boy, was I wrong. I do a little recording at a home studio, so I tried this mic out and it did great. I used it for guitar and vocals. My only regret is I should have bought two of these. Not sure about MXL's other mic's, but this model 910 is a great mic.

I have always played with regular mikes, lately we formed a acoustic group of people in 50's & 60's. This is my first condenser so I can't compair it much, however we now have another one of these plus one that was much more expensive, I can't tell that the more costly one is any better. We play churches, civic clubs, and such. These mikes are working great for us.

I produce a radio broadcast out of my home studio and also do some voiceover work and singing. This is a great mic for all of those applications. I was a bit skeptical, but at the Stupid Deal of the Day price, I snatched one up. I'm glad I did. You will definitely need a pop filter with this, as well as a quiet environment, because it is quite sensitive. It records clear, "dry" and accurately through the whole spectrum of my vocals. Very little EQ required for speaking, and just a touch of reverb for singing needed. I'm VERY pleased and highly recommend this mic!

Grabbed this mic on a 'deal of the day' sale. I've used MXL mics since first purchasing an MXL 2001 back in 2000.
This mic delivers a crisp, clean sound with tight bass on vocals. Lots of presence with good cancellation of axis.
