Comments about MXL V88 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

I bought this mic used for about one hundred USD. Used it in recording an album on vocals, acoustic guitar and as a drum overhead - all tracked in a practice room, not a studio proper studio. I found at times this mic was too bright and would get crunchy, especially on the hi-hat/snare side of a recorderman drum setup. Vox and acoustic were nice, but still bright at times. Sometimes this mic is amazing, sometimes it is awful! I think this is due to the type of space I record in and it's lack of proper treatment. (it's a bright room with about 50% auralex and other assorted absorption/diffusion, but generally not well treated.) I used this side by side with an AT-2020, and liked the AT slightly better in this situation. Still, this would probably be a solid mic in a good studio. Maybe it is a little honest for a bad room.

A good sounding vocal mic for my voice. I am glad I bought it. Some of the plastic parts look like they will break easily.

Comments about MXL V88 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

I bought one of these because I needed to record some acoustic guitar for a project. It worked real well. Our drummer tried it, and it sounded awsome, so I got another. They are permanently set up as overheads now. They just seem to work on everything we have thrown at them so far. I may even have to get a couple more.

I bought a pair of these after seeing them in a video on the bashers website. They rock! I've had them up for about a month now, and cant ever see them coming down. They really capture my kit, but I still get all the seperation.

GREAT VALUE AND SOUND AT STELLAR PRICE

By Andre Estanza

from Los Angeles

Comments about MXL V88 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic:

I have a number of mics in my cabinet and I really like the sound of MXL 990 which I prefer over my Rode NT1A and NT1000 on Vocals so when I saw the New MXL V88, I decided to take a chance.. Wow! I couldn't believe how the V88 Blew Everything Away I Have. I went to a friends studio where he had the Neumann TLM 49 and the V88 had a much bigger and clearer sound. He was so impressed he wanted to keep it. No way Jose its mine! Sounds amazing on everything I try it on. If this MXL V88 is any indication of their future products I'll by every one.
