Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
This improved my sound in my home recordings with my acoustic guitar. I was not using a condensor microphone at first. I made the switch from a Shure Beta to this bad boy, and it sounds smooth and crisp. Only complaint is the phantom power is very sensitive, so it takes some tweaking to get the microphone so there's no feedback. After playing around with it for a minute though, it works and sounds fantastic. I gave this 4 stars only because I'm sure the more expensive gear out there is higher quality and sounds better. This is perfect for the cash though.
Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
I bought a pair of these for Drum Overheads. They're OK. Overall I would describe the tonal coloration of these mics as bright and somewhat brittle. Not the flat, natural sound I was hoping for. Bottom line though - you get what you pay for.
Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
I am very happy that I purchased these mic's. I use them with Nady RSM-5 ribbon mic's and the combination works very well. The ribbon mic picks up the base very well and this mic picks up the mids and sweet highs. They have a much more solid sound, and a much cleaner sound, than the large condensers I was using, but they definitely benefit from having a ribbon mic added into the mix. These mic's are not nearly as picky about placement as the ribbon mic's are. Overall, they are very impressive. I don't think anyone would be disappointed when buying one of these, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants good clean sound.
I bought two of these mic's. The omni capsules on these mic's give me the sound I was missing in some of my other mikes. I use them primarily for recording guitar, and they give very clear and detailed highs, much more so than any of my other mikes. The wooden box they come in is a nice feature.
I got these mic's on sale. They are worth every penny, and certainly they are worth the normally cost.
Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
I own 4 of these (and 2 603s). They're absolutely worth every penny as is, but I've had all mine upgraded with better capacitors (a mod you can find online). The upgraded capacitors truly make these as useful as any mic in the locker. The sound that can come from upgraded 603s and 604s causes me to seriously reconsider any super-expensive mic purchase.
Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
I have a pair of these that I have used for everything from drum overheads to acoustic guitar micing to vocal micing. They sound great in any application - the interchangeable capsules being a BIG plus.End comment: You can't beat MXL for a ratio of price to quality, and these mics are no exception!
Comments about MXL604 Instrument Microphone:
I have two of theses mics. They come in a nice box with velvet and an extra omni capsule if you want to use the mic overhead instead of direct. I've connected them to an ART Studio Tube Preamp, dialed in the line voltage on my PA head and turned up the output on the preamps, rolled off the bass.....and you have a real, live, inexpensive, incredible sound on stage. These mics, while they may look cheap from these pictures are a blessing for those of us who can't spend $1000+ for a Beyer pencil mic. All Thumbs Up!!
