OVERVIEW

The Nady DB-1 Direct Box is one of the most useful and versatile tools available. The DB-1 enables the connection of any high-impedance unbalanced audio source signal to any low-impedance mic-level balanced input. Its parallel output allows the simultaneous connection to 2 separate inputs. A 3-position input attenuation switch (0dB, -20dB, -40dB) facilitates optimum level matching to connected equipment, and a ground lift switch eliminates ground loop-induced hum. The DB-1's rugged, roadworthy all-steel construction assures you years of continuous reliability.

Indispensable audio tool!

EVERY musician at some point will need a direct box. This Nady DB1 is a great value for the money. You should have one in your gig bag or on your pedal board or in your home studio. Some sound guys like it when you already have your own direct box with you. You may see that direct boxes can be real pricey when you go shopping for them but with this direct box you can scratch up enough coin to get it. IF you play live and also have an amp here is a cool thing those new to a direct box might like to know. You can plug your guitar cord into the 1/4 inch input on the direct box then take another guitar cord and plug it into the out side of the direct box and that will i turn plug into your amp then you take a mic cord and plug it into the XLR connection and then that will go into the channel on the snake that more that likely you sound guy will plug into or you will be told what number it will plug into. now your amp can be used as a stage monitor , the sound guy can put some guitar or bass in the monitors and the sound guy can mix your sound so the audience hears you well. That is how to use this type of direct box. Now that part that says ATT next to those 1/4 inch jacks, that is a way to adjust how hot the input signal is. i believe you can plug in an instrument with active electronics by switching to - 20dB or -40dB. active pickus and electronics are a bit on the hot side so switch the switch accordingly. On the XLR side you will see a ground switch and if you ever need to use that switch you will need something to stick in the hole like the tip of a pen or something that will poke in the hole to actuate the switch. Sometimes you may need to do that and that is how it is done. Be gentle it is a little switch. on other DI boxes that is called a ground lift and uses a different style switch. this direct box is metal and that is strong. IF you want to install this on your pedal board you have a couple ways to do this. velcro or screws. Get one today you will save cash.

Ok, I bought 2 of these to kill a bad buzz I have from a loop feedback coming from a line that I have to feed each week in a club setting. This feed is to also offer my program music to the "house" system as well throughout the bar/restaurant area. So I put one of them inline and no change at all. I lifted the ground, still no change. I opened the second box (and found that it was a return because there were screws missing around the inputs) and this one didn't work either. I changed cables, lifted/unlifted grounds, no change in the buzz. I also already had another DI Box (which cost me Sixty and used that one and it WORKED! So this tells me that this is very poorly made and not worth the under twenty I spent for each of them. VERY disappointed as well as I'm receiving used merch from Musician's Friend. NOT COOL. I'm still gonna try this someday soon with a live setup to see if it works but I doubt it... Don't waste your money. Buy a DI Box that's gonna work but you will have to spend over forty I'm sure.

I bought one of these because of the attractive price and have been very pleased with it. The sound is clear and transparent and its construction is tough so it can be just tossed into my gig bag with no problem between uses. A great value overall.

simple, functional direct box. Nothing extra, but everything you need. Attenuation and ground lift, and pass through. You could probably drive over the case and not hurt it.

Comments about Nady DB-1 Direct Box:

I got this mostly for eliminating ground loop from a PA system. The ground lift seemed to work but I lost a lot of bass frequencies.
                  Not transparent at all.

I also have the "Live Wire SPDI Passive Direct Box" sold here. It looks a lot the same in the pictures and it is built from similar materials but it is actually smaller and in my tests it sounds transparent to me. I would recommend the Live wire but not the Nady db-1.

BTW, Musicians Friend's customer support was awesome when I called them about the Nady.
They really took care of me.

While this box is functional, quality control leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, two of the case screws on mine are stripped out. The pad switch could not be any cheaper, and still function. The Ground Lift switch on mine has no knob, you have to use a pencil point in order to change it.

Other than that it works fine; the most quality is in the Steel case, that would probably survive a nuke blast. If you can overlook the negatives, its is a good box; at a comparatively (for quality) good price.
