Indispensable audio tool!

The Nady DB-1 Direct Box is one of the most useful and versatile tools available. Its parallel output allows the simultaneous connection to 2 separate inputs. A 3-position input attenuation switch (0dB, -20dB, -40dB) facilitates optimum level matching to connected equipment, and a ground lift switch eliminates ground loop-induced hum. The DB-1's rugged, roadworthy all-steel construction assures you years of continuous reliability.

I bought these for a venue that has a system that I run. I will be getting some for myself for when I provide sound at other places. One of the musicians I worked with was so impressed with the effect that he asked for information so he could get one for himself when he played at other venues.
The box performed exactly as I expected and needed.
I reallly appreciated the ground lift isolation, one of the musicians's amps generated a sixty cycle him that could be heard coming out of his speaker but it could not be heard in the recording made using the output of the sound board.
The price was far lower than DI boxes from other manufacturers.

Ok, I bought 2 of these to kill a bad buzz I have from a loop feedback coming from a line that I have to feed each week in a club setting. This feed is to also offer my program music to the "house" system as well throughout the bar/restaurant area. So I put one of them inline and no change at all. I lifted the ground, still no change. I opened the second box (and found that it was a return because there were screws missing around the inputs) and this one didn't work either. I changed cables, lifted/unlifted grounds, no change in the buzz. I also already had another DI Box (which cost me Sixty and used that one and it WORKED! So this tells me that this is very poorly made and not worth the under twenty I spent for each of them. VERY disappointed as well as I'm receiving used merch from Musician's Friend. NOT COOL. I'm still gonna try this someday soon with a live setup to see if it works but I doubt it... Don't waste your money. Buy a DI Box that's gonna work but you will have to spend over forty I'm sure.

Comments about Nady DB-1 Direct Box:

I got this mostly for eliminating ground loop from a PA system. The ground lift seemed to work but I lost a lot of bass frequencies.
        Not transparent at all.

I also have the "Live Wire SPDI Passive Direct Box" sold here. It looks a lot the same in the pictures and it is built from similar materials but it is actually smaller and in my tests it sounds transparent to me. I would recommend the Live wire but not the Nady db-1.

BTW, Musicians Friend's customer support was awesome when I called them about the Nady.
They really took care of me.

Comments about Nady DB-1 Direct Box:

While this box is functional, quality control leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, two of the case screws on mine are stripped out. The pad switch could not be any cheaper, and still function. The Ground Lift switch on mine has no knob, you have to use a pencil point in order to change it.

Other than that it works fine; the most quality is in the Steel case, that would probably survive a nuke blast. If you can overlook the negatives, its is a good box; at a comparatively (for quality) good price.

The Nady DB-1 direct box is a very good and inexpensive direct box and I've used it in live events requiring a DI. They have worked great every time they've been used. A good quality DI for a lot less money. I put them right to work and they have not failed me. Thank you.

Comments about Nady DB-1 Direct Box:

At this price, no excuse to be without a DI in your kit. This unit appears to be the same one offered by ART (twice the price) and PylePro (2/3 the price). My main stage/recording DI is a Radial but I have used the ART "stereo" version of this DI for years without any problems. This unit is solid enough to use a a weapon. As far as passive DIs go, this unit has all the features you would normally hope for: HiZ loop (thru), ground lift and LoZ padding (which, since it runs at -10, -20 & -40 dB and has a Thru jack, also allows you to use this DI in-line to tap the power output of your guitar amp). Most broadcast studios and casinos seem to use Whirlwind DIs (and I've had my Whirlwind IMP for about 40 years now) but at this price, with these features, you'd be silly to go without having a DI around.
